FPS counter for MSFS2020?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 02:22

I have PopOS! and play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 through Steam. I experience some stuttering and would like to see the FPS. I have tried MangoHUD but haven’t got it to work for MSFS2020 ( but works great for all other games). Any recommendations? Thank you for your help!

Tried my best to recreate Judgement's Yagami Takayuki on the inZoi Character Studio Demo (running on Proton Experimental)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 02:21

If anyone else is waiting this to release, I'm happy to say that — at least the demo — runs (unofficially) on proton, with only a few minor graphical issues, videos not loading and issues connecting to Canvas (the connection issue may not be exclusive to linux though).

BM:W Crashing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 01:33

Arch, i9 10900K, RX 6900 XT, Mesa-git, Proton Experimental bleeding edge beta. After lowering core clocks and power limit in corectrl it doesn't crash straight away but it hangs on a black screen then crashes. I've tried using different proton versions including GE. Using wayland, I've tried on x11 but it doesn't launch at all.

When it crashes it restarts plasmashell and I can't launch steam again so reboot is required.

I notice a difference between x.org and gamescope with color and feel on the deck

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 01:27

The difference is small, but I don't think I am imagining things.

When docked to an external monitor, on gamescope with the deck's built-in wayland compositor the game I was playing the black level seems just a tiny bit darker than I'd like it and the colors a tiny bit more saturated. Movement feels a tiny bit too smooth/slower.

On x.org the picture is brighter (kde's gamma setting is set at the default of 1.00) and movement feels a bit more "natural" (as in a tiny bit faster).

I usually launch steam from x.org because of these perceived differences.

Anyone else notice the two are not the same?

I found a solution that made any 3rd party controller I had, work natively on Linux Mint 22, Cinammon, Kernel version 6.8 through Bluetooth. Worked for S-Input and X-Input.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 00:41

Context: I have an 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth controller, a P30 Modkit Classic (modded PS1 controller PCB from 8BitDo) and a GuliKit KK3 Max (which I just got today). Both the BT and the KK3 Max worked with their respective dongles, but not in Bluetooth mode. They would be paired and connected according to Blueman, but they wouldn't be recognized by any type of software.

I spent a bit over 25 hours trying to find a solution (I switched to Linux for my main system 2 days ago, I'm as noob as it gets). When doing some diagnostics (with the help from ChatGPT) I found that the error I was getting while trying to establish BT connection with the controller was something along the lines of "Can't get HIDP connection".
The solution to my problem was to do following steps through the terminal:

Bluetoothctl
pair *MAC ADDRESS*
connect *MAC ADDRESS*
trust *MAC ADDRESS*

The MAC ADDRESS can be obtained by the Blueman GUI when you activate the search function for new devices. Right-click the device, then info, then ctrl+c the MAC ADDRESS.

This worked for Switch Input (gyro in Ryujinx with no setup) and X-Input too. Pretty sure it would work for D-Input as well. I have no idea why such an issue would even exist and how nobody online has pointed to this solution before. I didn't need any udev rule or joycond, which are the solutions many people pointed at during my research (although the biggest problem for my troubleshooting was actually the lack of online discourse about the topic).

Using ChatGPT to troubleshoot and understand the problem through the terminal was extremely effective, I wish I had started earlier...I would have probably needed 20 minutes. I hope that everyone who has issues with these 3rd party controllers can find this post and get to enjoy Linux gaming.

The finals not using dedicated GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 00:30

Hello guys,

I was using a dual boot with windows for gaming, and now I'm using Arch linux only, with gnome. I have a dedicated GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 mobile alongside an integrated Intel Iris Xe card. I installed nvidia drivers and with steam, proton experimental and wine - everything works fine, except for The Final. For some reason the game starts and works fine but uses the Intel card instead of the NVIDIA one. Every other game runs as intended with NVIDIA graphics card selected. Here is what I already tried :

  • nvidia-smi and nvidia-settings clearly output that the NVIDIA GPU is selected for every game except the finals
  • Using switcheroo and prime-run does not force the game to select the right GPU
  • Steam logs don't have a particular error related to The Finals. Pronton logs show that the GPU is detected with no error but at the end the integrated graphics card is selected.

I believe that the issue stands with this game in particular, since every other game I have runs flawlessly, but I've seen many people run The Finals successfully and I don't know what to try. Does any one here has had the same problem ? Thank you a lot for your help !

Rocket League stuttering every few seconds on Linux - with Video - Looking for solution and help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. August 2024 - 00:09

Hello guys,

i play Rocket League via Steam. The Game is stuttering or microstuttering every few seconds - as you can see in the Frametime Graph and of course in the game itself.

My System: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU and 32 GB DDR4 RAM @ 3600 MT/s. Linux runs on an NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD in a PCIe 4.0 Slot.

I use EndeavourOS with KDE and installed steam with vulkan-radeon and lib32-vulkan-radeon packages.

It doesn't make a difference if i use Proton Experimental Proton 9.0-2.

It also makes no difference whether I cap the frames at 60, 144 or 180 Hz (my native monitor frequency. It also doesn't matter whether V-Sync is off or on. I have activated Adaptive Sync in the monitor menu and in KDE - Adaptive Sync works also according to the frame display from my monitor OSD.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing the problem?

I would be very happy about any help! :)

Want to help get an old game working in wine? (Reach For The Stars 2000 edition)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 23:55

Earlier this week I had a flashback to summer of 2001 when I was in middle school and had so much fun playing a new 4X scifi game. I couldn't even remember its name and had to scour the internet looking at every scifi 4x game from the era, until I found a mention of Reach For The Stars, saw the box art, and knew it was the one.

Reach For The Stars (2000) box art

This game has faded into obscurity and is now abandonware but was actually a really great game for the time. It is much like Stellaris of today, but with an open space map. It has something like 20 species that are completely customizable and a scenario builder (map editor). You'll notice it is so obscure, if you search for it, the most recent chat about it is from the mid 2000s, and it doesn't exist in WineDB or similar.

I spent hours searching for a version to download or torrent, and unfortunately wasn't able to find one anywhere. This made me :( since it was such an important memory from my youth. I did however find a few CDs on ebay so I bought one for $5. I just got it in today and for the sake of posterity uploaded the ISO of it plus both patches.

Fleet battles

I was able to get it installed and patched easily using Lutris, and it starts up fine, but there are a few issues that need to be fixed to get it running well. I am wondering if anyone is interested in helping to get this old game running in wine so I can contribute a recipe to WineDB and Lutris. This would be important toward archiving this game for the future since modern Windows probably can't run it at all.

Main Menu

The main bug that needs to get fixed is that mouse clicks aren't detected reliably. It seems like occasionally they work, but it takes clicking around for 10 seconds or more. It also seems like the cursor is detected in the wrong spot sometimes. So if anyone wants to work with me to get this game working, let me know. (Its a good game so I think you'll enjoy it once it works too!)

Add wrye bash executable to mod organizer 2 on steam deck

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 22:52

Hey, I am at my wits end, hoping I can get some help here.

I installed mod organizer 2 on steam deck, trying to mod skyrim, some mods require wrye bash.

In mod organizer 2, I added the installer for wrye bash, it installed successfully, skyrim is installed on my internal drive so wrye bash installed there as well.

Realized the .steam folder, which contains the install folders is hidden, so as a workaround I linked the common folder cotaining games under the .steam folder elsewhere and through there I added the executable to mod organizer 2, without this it could not see the .steam folder.

Now when launching it is throwing me an error, I suspect (just a hunch, no idea honestly) it cannot access the folder:
Error 1359 ERROR_INTERNAL_ERROR: Internalerror. (0x54f)

. binary: 'Z:\home\deck\Games\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Mopy\Wrye Bash.exe'

. owner: GetEffectiveRightsFromAclW(), Invalidfunction. (0x1)

. rights: GetEffectiveRightsFromAclW(), Invalidfunction. (0x1)

. arguments: ''

. cwd: 'Z:\home\deck\Games\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Mopy'

. stdout: no, stderr: no, hooked: yes

. MO elevated: yes

. usvfs x86:ok x64:ok proxy_x86:ok proxy_x64:ok

Does anyone have an idea on how to get this to work without having to install skyrim on an external memory istead of the internal drive?

[Lutris Wine-GE 8.26] Cyberpunk 2077 running at somewhat capped fps on Fedora 40 KDE

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 22:20

Hi!

I got the GOG version of Cyberpunk 2077 (patch 2.12) and I'm running it through Lutris (native) with Wine-GE runner. Previously, when using windows, I got around 100-120fps when just playing the game (not sure about those numbers, but the game was mostly smooth). Since then I changed my system to Fedora 40 with KDE and now I'm getting much lower performance.

  • In the menus the game seems to be capped around 80fps
  • In-game benchmark reports around 60fps no matter the settings. I mean, ofc with RT and ultra textures the fps drop but when benchmarking on low to medium settings, with or without DLSS/FSR and even on ridiculously small resolutions the game is stuck around 60fps
  • MangoHUD reports around 40-50% GPU utilization during benchmark which seems a little low to my taste (didn't check it on windows bcs I didn't need to)

Here's the output of inxi: https://pastebin.com/EHRcJPGK
(I am using Lenovo Legion 5 RTX3060+R5 5600H, GPU in Hybrid Mode)
Here's the output of vulkaninfo: https://pastebin.com/rMr86VGh

Here's the output of glxinfo: https://pastebin.com/HMgD32PM

I tried changing the in-game settings, display settings, setting up different env variables but none of this solutions worked in my case. Is there something i could've missed and because of that I'm having poorer performance?

Vulkan shaders processing - after 60 minutes at 95 % - first start Rocket League - what’s wrong here?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 20:50

After 1 hour, Vulkan Shaders are still processing, when i trying to start Rocket League on Steam for the first time. It happens with Proton 9 and experimental. EndeavourOS was fresh installed today - so it’s a new, fresh installed system. Other Games like Overwatch 2 and Resident Evil 4 don’t took that long to processing Vulkan Shaders. What’s wrong here? :(
