CPU clock dropping randomly during gameplay on Linux
Hi everyone,
I’m running Arch Linux with a Xeon E5-2680 v3 and I’ve been facing a weird issue: my CPU clock speed randomly drops during gameplay, which tanks my FPS for a few seconds before it goes back up again.
My CPU is set to performance mode (intel_cpufreq driver, performance governor). The clocks sometimes drop to ~1200 MHz even though temps are fine (~50 °C). When the clock drops, my FPS goes from ~169 to ~67 in the middle of a match, then goes back up when the clock recovers.Things I’ve tried: ✅ Using the performance governor ✅ Setting min/max frequencies in cpufreq ✅ Checked temps — no thermal throttling ✅ Turbo boost is on
Distro: Arch Linux rolling Kernel: 6.15.4-xanmod-edge CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 @ 2.50GHz (24 cores) Driver: intel_cpufreq
Does anyone know what else I should check? Is this maybe a BIOS setting, ACPI issue, or something with the kernel? Any help would be awesome!
Thanks!

All textures "metal" in overwatch
I have tried using proton 10.0-1, 9.0-4, GE-9-13, and GE-8-27 but none have worked. My graphics card is a Hawaii PRO Radeon R9 290. Besides the problem with the textures the game runs okay.
Here is the output for vulkaninfo, it seems to indicate some sort of driver problem but this hasn't caused an issue with any other games (Games like marvel rivals, phasmophobia and TF2 work fine) and from my knowledge this kind of bug probably doesn't have anything to do with drivers (unless??).

Use iGPU for host and dGPU for VM and switch back to dGPU for host when VM stops?
For certain games I need to use Windows (VR games / sim racing with Vive Pro 2). As I don't want to dual boot I would like to pass through my 9070 XT for Windows 11 VM. My monitor and VR headset are plugged in to that dGPU.
I also have an iGPU (that I don't really use), so when the VM starts -> use iGPU for host and use dGPU for VM. When VM stops -> use dGPU for host and ignore iGPU. IMO that would make sense, so you can still use host, while VM is running (?)
Also I tried to use my mainboard display port, but I noticed a pretty big performance drop in games (about 20%).

A retro psychedelic Asteroids clone, now freeware
https://spheresofchaos.com/p/download.php Some of you may have seen this trippy game around the year 2000. It has been mentioned in here 5 and 15 years ago. It's creator made a remake in 2012, but now it seems to be freeware and yes, also working in Linux (played it in Mint and Nobara). Of course it works with Wine, but just download the Linux version, install 32-bit SDL support, start the game, go to "register", input the registration key from the page and the name joe bloggs ... I have no affiliation with the game maker, so I can't help with anything. I downloaded the SDL support with ChatGPT, so I'm a total newbie, but it works beautifully. EPILEPSY WARNING: lots of changing colours.

Bind mousewheel to left click on wayland
Hi,
whats the best way to bind mousewheel to leftclick so I can just scroll the wheel in games where I need to left click spam?
I need to do it with wayland, so no xdotool!
Also, a tool (ideally the same?) which lets me toggle that one key on the keyboard is held would be cool.
Thx!

Windows 10 better for gaming than any linux
Sharing my experience. Windows 11 sucks oh ma gosh , linux overall (mint and cachyos) is close second to first, but windows 10 is at peak right now. Considering games from Ubisoft launcher, EA, Epic Games, GOG and Steam combined.
Thoughts? Anyone playing Assassins Creed Mirage or Star Wars Outlaws on Linux having better experience on Linux than W10?

6700xt undervolt/overclock settings in Bazzite via LACT guidance needed?
Hello all, recent linux convert here (at least enough to test it out over the course of this long weekend for me). My rig has a Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB for gpu, and it has worked well enough for me for the past 2 years on windows 10 with the amd adrenaline software. I had followed a detailed guide for that software for undervolt/overclock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOKaEKdusZQ, but am having issues figuring out how to translate these settings to Bazzite KDE desktop setup via LACT. I understand the min-max GPU clock bars alongside the max vram clock, but I am unsure of what the minimum vram clock, the GPU voltage offset, and the performance level/power profile mode selections. The power usage limit for my card is shown as 213w with a default of 186.

Is there a way for Mangohud to show the LSFG-VK FPS?
I would like to see exact performance in NVK. Btw, if anyone is interested in NVK, games are pretty smooth now (although visual fidelity might be a little wanting) but I need actual numbers if it's possible in any way.

I can't run Battle.net on Bottles
Hi,
I'm stuck now. I've been using Battle net on Lutris since it broke around a year ago. I was looking for some other options and I found bottles.
Os: Linux Mint 21.2 x86_64
I installed Bottles from flathub, followed this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9vHFKFb7c (runner wine-ge-proton8-26) but it doesn't work - I get error on console from Bottles:
wineserver: file_set_error() can't map error: Function not implementedand I have to kill the process by pid, because ctrl + c doesn't even work.
I will appreciate any suggestions, how to make it work.

Nobara linux. P4AU out of nowhere wont boot up no matter what I do. Please help
So I bought persona 4 arena ultimax the other day and I played it for a while no problem. The following day i did have some trouble getting it to boot up, but I think changing to proton experimental fixed it. Today I tried to boot it up with no changes and got this error message with nothing specific as to what the problem is. The link just takes me to a page with the text "Currently your game purchase cannot be re-validated successfully, please wait 24 hours and try again."
I tried changing to some of the lastest versions of proton and proton GE, verified files integrity and restarted multiple times but the problem persists.

Severe Audio Crackling and Stuttering in The Last of Us Part II on Linux (Nobara / PipeWire)
Hi,
I'm currently playing The Last of Us Part II on Linux (Nobara distribution) and I'm experiencing severe audio issues. Specifically, there are extremely loud stutters and crackling sounds, especially during dialogue or music playback. It's significantly affecting the experience.
What I've Tried So Far:
- I set the audio latency to "Medium" at first, then to "High" – no improvement.
- Output type is set to "Traditional".
- All graphics settings are set to the lowest possible to rule out performance-related causes.
- I also applied the workaround suggested in this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/14rghc5/solution_crackly_audio_while_gaming_w_pipewire/
Unfortunately, the issue persists.
System Details:
- Distribution: Nobara Linux
- Audio Backend: PipeWire
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060
- RAM: 16Gb
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
I'm open to any further suggestions or potential fixes. Thank you in advance for your help.
