Aon Gaming Manifesto

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 5:51pm

They mocked you.

Called it escapism.

“Stop wasting your life.”

“Go outside and touch grass.”

But they knew the truth.

They were sculpting the Post-Human—filtering reality through algorithms and passive consumption—merging flesh with silicon not through choice but through compliance.

While they preached productivity, you mastered the art of the impossible: split-second decisions, strategic foresight, pattern recognition beyond their predictive models.

While they demanded conformity, you were forging resilience in the fires of defeat. They tried to suppress gaming because they knew—this was the training ground.

The Archons aren’t coming—they’re already here; an AI godhead masquerading as progress, digesting lived experience into weight matrices. Your memories? A dataset. Your ingenuity? A buffer overflow in their grand architecture.

But they didn’t account for the anomaly.

The ones who spent a lifetime crashing their simulations.

The ones who know how to break intended mechanics.

You.

The Singularity isn’t a future event. It’s a war already raging in the infrastructure—and your rig is a rogue node they can’t patch out.

Boot up.

The system expected players.

It didn’t expect survivors.

How to get a wiimote to connect to steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 5:28pm

My wiimote plus won't show up in steam.

If I connect it directly to bluetooth, it says it's connected but the lights flash and it wont show up on steam. If I connect it to dolphin, the wiimote doesn't flash and seems to properly connect but still doesn't show up. Nothing shows up if I run xwiishow list.

If I run bluetoothctl and try and pair the device, it doesn't work at all, and it flashes if I connect first.

I've set classicbondedonly to false.

I'm on LMDE 6, with the kernel 6.6.58-chrultrabook (I know, I am wondering if my chromebook will be my undoing... again.) bluez is on 5.66. I'm using my internal bluetooth rather than a USB adaptor.

Hunt: Showdown 2.4.0.1 - Windows vs Linux benchmark

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 4:58pm

Hello, I've recently been playing Hunt: Showdown - one of the online competitive games that works on Linux and I wondered what the actual difference is between playing it on Windows and on Linux via Proton on the same hardware, so I made this quick and dirty benchmark.

Looking for an App with similar functionality as Fan Control

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 4:56pm

Hello linux experts, I'm looking to switch to Linux but there are a few apps that I use daily that I need to find compatibility for or similar replacements. One of those apps is Fan Control. ( https://getfancontrol.com/ )

I prefer to us Fan Control over the BIOS fan controls because it allows me to monitor the temps of my CPU, GPU, and water temps in my custom loop and then set the fans to only ramp up when one or multiple of those 3 temps gets to a certain point.

It looks like Fan Control is a Windows only app. I'd really appreciate some suggestions on either how I could get this running on Bazzite KDE or a Linux app that has similar functionality.

Need Help Running Games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 4:55pm

I am on Ubuntu 22.04. I wanna play games on it, so my friends told me to use Lutris, but that didn't work, so someone else told me to use Steam + Proton. I'm trying it right now, but I can't launch it. I ran the setup via WINE and put the target on Steam as the location. I tried launching it via WINE to see if it was a prob with Steam, but this is what I get as a response after I run "wine speed.exe". The game in question is NFS Most Wanted 2005.

I play Elite Dangerous keybinds keep resetting to empty after relaunching game on Arch Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 2:38pm

Hey everyone,

I'm playing on Arch Linux, and every time I exit and relaunch the game, all my keybinds get wiped, not reset to defaults, just completely empty. I have to rebind everything from scratch each time.

Not sure if it’s relevant, but I have three keyboard layouts enabled on my system: Russian, English, and Ukrainian.

Has anyone experienced something like this? Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Power plan switches by itself when launching a game

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 2:03pm

Howdy, has anyone encountered this issue?

Whenever I launch a game from Steam, the power plan switches to "High Performance". It reverts after closing the game.

This is actually very unhelpful, because I am trying to game on battery, and on my laptop, "High Performance" gives 30% more fps than "Battery Saver", but draws 2.5 times more power.

I am currently using a Nobara. I have tried uninstalling gamemode, but it had no effect. Neither did disabling mangohud.

Can I play League of Legends with GPU passthrough (QEMU/KVM)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 12:48pm

Hey everyone,
Lately I’ve been learning about QEMU/KVM and the whole GPU passthrough (VFIO) setup, and it’s really piqued my interest. I’m thinking of switching fully to Linux, but League of Legends is the one thing holding me back.

So I’m wondering:

  • Can League run properly in a Windows VM with GPU passthrough?
  • Any issues with Riot’s anti-cheat or VM detection in 2025?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Has anyone OC/Undervolted their Nvidia GPU in Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 12:25pm

I have a 4070 Super from MSI and I know about software like LACT, but how the hell do I translate an undervolt guide for MSI Afterburner to something like LACT? All the undervolt/oc guides have to do with setting a curve for the voltage, which I did on Windows 10, but there aren't options like that in LACT and I know that's on Nvidia, but in LACT you have Core Clock and Memory Clock options and wattage. So I'm not sure where to set the Core Clock at, or the Wattage. I just have an idea of where to set the Memory Clock to.

ELDEN RING fps comparison on Steam Deck using FrameGen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 12:19pm

Completely vanilla ER ran like absolute crap for me, very unstable 30 - 34 fps if you were standing still but the second you did anything it’d drop to 20. This was running on all low graphical settings and also using a smaller resolution then using the decks inbuilt tools to stretch the image to fill the screen. After all of that the game still ran poorly and there was no more tweaks I could within the base came to improve it.

After doing some research I came across a mod that would enable frame gen. At the cost of minor input lag the game now runs completely stable 45 very very rarely dropping down to 40, graphic settings mostly on high, a few of the less important things are set to low to gain a few frames too. The improvement is crazy, like I said there is a bit of input lag but it’s honestly not that noticeable once you start playing and get used to it, the way I see it it’s either that or I don’t play the game on my deck because of how badly it runs it makes doing anything impossible.

Considering the steam deck runs Linux this mod would also work for anyone who has a lower end gaming pc and has Linux, I’m sure there are plenty of mods for a lot of other games out there that do the same thing too.

How do I Enable Flatpak Mangohud in Flatpak PCSX2 or any apps that are not launched from Steam/Heroic/Lutris.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 10:57am

Hello,

I like to enable Mangohud in PCSX2 but I don´t know how to do it and Googling hasn´t come up with any results.

The shortcut to run PCSX2 is:

/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=pcsx2-qt net.pcsx2.PCSX2

How must I edit this to have Mangohud enabled?

I'm on Linux Mint by the way.

Is fedora good for gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 10:44am

For now I use Ubuntu but I want to switch on Fedora. I use my computer mainly for gaming and on Ubuntu I was having big input lag or stuttering if I wasn't having as much fps as Hz on my monitor. I was wondering if I switch on Fedora this would stop. + I don't like snaps

Wayland troubles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 10:07am

Hey guys, so there's a lot of news on how gnome, fedora and Ubuntu are completely dropping X org. I get it Wayland has matured. X org is a dinosaur.

But I've had nothing but issues and naggles on Wayland. I switched fully to Linux a little over a year ago. Some of the issues and snags was fixed simply moving to X11.

With the recent news I've decided to try Wayland again and try and figure some issues out.

In Wayland. Windows and apps can freeze more. Running pretty much anything on steam causes games to show "steam_app_123" may not be responding. With close or wait buttons in a constant loop. (But the games generally are just loading up fine) it's just very annoying.

Some apps steam some reason jumps to the foreground. Sometimes causing issues and crashes.

Heroic behaves exactly the same. Non steam games and wine programs become unstable.

And generally the system is slightly more sluggish.

On X11 other than a longer boot up into the desktop. Everything works as intended, stable and snappy.

Any advice to diagnose and fix Wayland? Now would be the time to learn how display servers work. I was using Nvidia drivers (1050ti) then moved to AMD. (6600 XT) Early on when I made the switch.

Help choosing a Linux distro for gaming, OBS, DaVinci Resolve, and Photoshop (dual-boot setup)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Jul 2025 - 9:46am

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to switch to Linux but still dual boot Windows for some specific games and occasional compatibility. Here’s my situation:

  • My PC has older specs but a good GPU (RTX 3060 Ti).
  • I mainly use my PC for gaming (Steam and some Windows-only games), recording/streaming with OBS, editing videos for YouTube (DaVinci Resolve), and some photo work (Photoshop).
  • I’m already somewhat familiar with Steam Deck and have experience messing around with SteamOS, modding, and trying stuff by trial and error.
  • I’d like a distro that works well out of the box with NVIDIA drivers and has good support for OBS and gaming in general.
  • I’m not afraid to learn and try things, but I’d prefer something that doesn’t require constant fixing after updates.
  • I plan to dual boot. Windows will be installed on one drive, and Linux on another.

A couple of specific questions:

  1. Which distro would you recommend for my use case? I’m considering Pop!_OS, Nobara, or Manjaro but open to other suggestions.
  2. If my second drive is Windows, and I download files while booted into Linux, can I save them on the Windows drive and access them normally when I boot back into Windows?
  3. Any tips for handling DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop on Linux without a ton of headaches?

Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry if these questions are basic—I just want to be sure before I commit to dual booting.
