Installed a 9070 XT but PC keeps using integrated graphics (Linux Mint)
Hello,
So I built a desktop a while ago and until today I ran it with the integrated GPU from my Ryzen 5 9600x CPU. It was a great experience but I've decided to buy a 9070 XT so I have more firepower for gaming. I'm running Linux Mint 22.1 Xia.
I expected it all to be smooth sailing but this has not been the case.
First of all only 1 monitor was working and it turned out to be an issue related to Linux Mint. As a result I updated my kernel to 6.14 and upgraded to Mesa 25. Now both my monitors are working again. Finally I also upgraded the amdgpu linux-firmware.
When I launch games, I do this with Bottles, my games still look exactly the same as with my iGPU. glxinfo | grep OpenGL renderer also confirms iGPU is being used. I can't seem to force using the dGPU, whatever I do it defaults to the iGPU.
What do I do? How do I get this new GPU to work? Is moving away from Linux Mint towards a cutting edge distro like Fedora the only solution?
E: Disabling iGPU in BIOS fixed my issue. Thanks everybody.

Import saves to steamOS
Hi, so recently I was able to install need for speed most wanted 2005 ( not a steam game) to steamOS (in my steam deck) but now I was wondering if it where possible to import the saved data from my pc to it so I don't have to restart everything. I've tried to modify the save path from the script NFSMostWanted.WidescreenFix inside of the game folder but, even though the game creates an alias, there is nothing in that folder that I've specified. Does anyone had a situation like this before?

THE FINALS devs are "committed to ensuring compatibility" with proton
Fedora KDE, Hogwarts Legacy.
I installed Fedora KDE yesterday, I updated it and I haven't done anything else to it. I have a new computer with a RX 9060XT GPU, I installed steam through Discovery. When running Hogwarts Legacy, I noticed in settings I only had the option for Windowed or Windowed Full Screen, there was no proper full screen option. Why is this? Have I done something wrong?
Thank you.

The Linux Subreddit Is Aggressive & Rude?
Hi everyone!
Recently I asked a question about anyone having potential fixes for NVIDIA Proprietary Driver issues I was experiencing on Linux Mint & about a week or more ago I asked if antivirus software would ever be a consideration for Linux users in the future as it becomes popular because the Arch AUR recently had malware in it, & the people answering on the Linux Subreddit basically tore me a new one. Interestingly, PewDiePie is being worshiped for now using Linux which I know helps people become aware of Linux, but why is he given respect as a new user but anyone else asking questions gets treated like crap?
I'm not new to Linux (been using it since I was 16) & I study & work in the Information Technology & Cybersecurity field, but never have I tooted my own horn or scolded anyone for asking questions because there is always something to learn with Linux & the Tech world. This Linux Gaming Subreddit seems more welcoming though. Anyone else feel the same or experience similar behaviour on the Linux Subreddit or is just me?

I can't figure out what the app ID or save location for Sonic 3 AIR is on my Steam Deck
I've tried looking it up, but have found nothing about it. I've then tried creating a desktop shortcut, and the ID listed is not matching a single one in compatdata, and I think it's also too long for that. I then opted to not use the Discover store version and go with the one directly from the site, but that was also to no avail. Thing is, I'm trying to put in a 100% save data and I'm positive I need to go to the compatdata folder like every other non-Steam game that I have on it, but even trying to find the save location for it is fruitless. It's as if I'm the only one that added it to Steam on a Steam Deck, but I know that's not the case.
Anyone able to help me figure this out, please and thank you?

Performance deficit when compared to windows
I recently switched to cachyos KDE coz windows straight up sucks and I love how customisable KDE is and I've seen yt videos that cachyos is amazing. However, I found a huge performance difference compared to windows. I can run Euro Truck Sim 2 at 1080p 30fps(high preset) on windows but when I run the game using bottles and proton-ge (default cachyos kernel), I couldn't get more than a stuttering 24 fps on cachyos.
I have a laptop running ryzen 5 cpu with GTX 1650(50w).
Any fixes regarding performance fix and/or battery life is appreciated. I have already set up tlp, auto-cpufreq and powertop. I have also, overclocked GPU using lact and adjusted cpu TDP to 30w using ryzenadj
PS: temperatures while gaming don't go beyond 70C so its not like it's thermal throttling

Steam games suddenly laggy on Ubuntu
Hello! Recently, a large portion of my steam games have begun experiencing flickering and lag. My computer is already pretty bad graphically, so this wouldn't be too surprising except they were running just fine before. It runs normally with some games, such as Postal 2, however games like Garry's Mod run into the flickering and lag mentioned before.
My computer is a iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011), running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LT, with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500S CPU @ 2.70GHz, and a Whistler [Radeon HD 6730M/6770M/7690M XT] GPU
Any thoughts?

Saw The Karters 2: Turbo Charged on another subreddit and tested it. It works with Proton.
Tested using the latest version of Linux Mint 22 and Proton 9.0-4 on Steam for compatibility.

I switched to Arch recently and i tried to play Street FIghter 6 with proton. At first there were some bugs like my screen was duplicated, there were some flickering and so, that i fixed it unisntalling amdvlk.
But the performance was still so damm low. My GPU goes to 99% of performance and it doesnt even reach 40fps.
Im on Arch, with Hyprland
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
GPU: Radeon rx 6750xt
RAM: 32GB
Proton Experimental and i put this command to see the performance: mangohud %command%
I play on 1440p but is imposible to play this game with that resolution so i play at 1080p that work a bit better but its unplayable

Yet another "I escaped Windows" post, but this is supremely monumental for me, and I don't care.
So I've been messing around with Linux since around 2011 when I was in Fort Carson (Mint has always been my flavor of choice), and I've always wanted to get away from Windows. The idea of a system that's open for both programs and users really jazzed me up. But for what I personally use a computer for, the tech and software just...wasn't there yet. I was finally able to do it about a couple weeks ago and everything is going great. I can't believe this is reality, and now every time I run across a "Windows is evil and controlling" post, I get SUCH a good feeling inside that I no longer have to deal with that mess anymore. Cheers everyone. Remember that you matter, and have an AMAZING day!
It's Tamaweb (a Tamagotchi clone), and can be downloaded here.

Severe gaming stuttering and input lag after Kernel 6.15 update - AMD RX 6400
TL;DR: Kernel 6.15 introduced severe visual stuttering and input latency in games (both native and Proton) on AMD RX 6400. Issue completely disappears when downgrading to 6.14. Anyone else experiencing this?
The ProblemAfter updating to Linux Kernel 6.15, all games exhibit severe visual stuttering and input latency issues despite maintaining normal FPS readings. This affects: - Native Linux games - Windows games through Proton/Wine - Both Wayland and X11 sessions
Key symptoms: - Games feel extremely sluggish with terrible frame pacing - FPS counters (MangoHUD, Steam overlay) still show 60+ FPS - V-Sync off = severe visual stuttering - V-Sync on = reduced stuttering but extremely high input lag (much worse than normal V-Sync overhead)
The issue is 100% reproducible - happens immediately on 6.15, completely gone on 6.14 and earlier.
My Setup- CPU: Intel i5-7500 (Kaby Lake)
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6400 (Sapphire)
- RAM: 16GB
- Display: Dell E1916H (1366x768 @ 60Hz via DisplayPort)
I've tested this across multiple distros to isolate the issue: - Linux Mint 22.1 (kisak Mesa PPA) - Fedora 42 (standard Mesa) - Nobara 42 (standard Mesa)
- CachyOS (standard Mesa)
Tested on both: - Standard distro kernels - XanMod kernel - Multiple desktop environments (GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon) - Wayland and X11 (X11 slightly better but still problematic)
Since the issue persists across different Mesa sources and distros, this confirms it's a kernel-level regression in the amdgpu driver, not userspace.
Question for the CommunityIs anyone else with AMD GPUs (especially RX 6000 series) experiencing similar issues after updating to kernel 6.15?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from: - Other RX 6400 users - People with different RX 6000 series cards - Anyone who found workarounds besides downgrading

Gzdoom flatpak on fedora - missing textures
Been a while since I played modded doom so I might have missed something. I am on linux and am using the flatpak version of gzdoom. So I basically just run "flatpak run org.zdoom.GZDoom -iwad DBP37_AUGZEN.wad " in my terminal. But when I open this wad the ceiling and floors are all transparent, like you can see the skybox through them. Any ideas how this might be fixed? I am on fedora which is why I used the flatpak and not the deb version.
