Wow and battle.net permission issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 11:10

Hi, i've recently installed bazzite on my desktop PC because the distro look intriguing and i love steamOS on my legion g s. Everything was working flawlessly, mostly no tinkering, 99% of the things worked out of the box. Yesterday out of nowhere i started getting a weird issue with one of my drives and its contents, mainly its just World of Warcraft and battle.net launcher that are having issues.

All of my drives are automounting to the default directory which is /home/user/drivename but only one of them is having issues. I have 4 drives - 480gb m.2 system drive, 2x2tb HDDs for downloads and backup and a 1tb ssd gamedrive which is the one having issues.
All of the drives are ripped from a windows machine, only the system drive is fresh and only the gamedrive ssd has been formated from NTFS. Both HHDs are still in NTFS and are working flawlessly, everything on those drives functions as it should. The SSD is a different story.

I have a few games installled on the drive and they work without issues and update without issues. Then there is a clean install of retail world of warcraft installed through battle.net which is running through lutris. I've installed the game with no issues, launched it with no issues, logged in and got error - outdated game. So i exit wow, open bnet and the update starts initializing but fails with error message "please log in as administrator". Checking the wow folder there is a .patchsomething file which for some reason doesn't list me as the owner but a TrustedInstaller. So i change the owner, setup the permisions, and the update works, game launches and is the right version and i can play. But every time i quit the game and want to launch it again, bnet detects and update which is 180kb in size, fails again with the admin message and reverts the .patchsomething file owner to a trustedinstaller.

I've tried reinstalling lutris, bnet and wow multiple times to other drives - same issue, even on a system drive
I've tried installing bnet and wow through steam, bottles, then i tried just copying them from another machine, that didn't fix the issue.
I've wiped the drive clean, reformatted, fixed the filesystem through gparted and tried multiple mounting points - nothing.

This issue started happening yesterday, the only thing i've done to the system was switching from bash to zsh. Reverting that did not fix it, going back to a previous ostree also did not fix a thing.

The workaround for this issue takes a few seconds, i just don't want to do that every time i wanna play wow because its annoying.

I'll appreciate any help and tips!

Need help with CS2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 10:45

So I have recently tried installing CS2 on OPENS USE and I wanted to see if I could run vs with Wayland instead of x11, from what I could see in ProtonDB alot of people have successfully done this, however it has been a few weeks. I went into the CS2.sh and changed export SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=x11 to Wayland My current launch options are: LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command% -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 180

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to fix c's not fitting in my monitor as seen in the photo. It cuts of about 1/6 of the game, I have tried full screening it with KDE right click but then the mouse doesn't work.

Thanks

HDR on intel and GNOME?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 09:39

So I have an intel laptop with a core ultra 7 256v and an intel arc 140, I have been looking to enable HDR but nothing is to be found in settings and after looking a bit online I couldn't find anybody actually using it on intel platforms, not even the arch guide has anything for intel, so is there no way to actually use HDR on intel platforms? I am on arch linux.

Kernel 6.14 (Ubuntu 24.04 HWE) - DualShock DS4 can't reconnect

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 09:12

Hi all,

As per subject today the LTS HWE kernel has been updated on Ubuntu 24.04 to 6.14.0-24.

Unfortunately seems like DS4 (and also DS5) pads can pair and connect to Bluetooth, but then the same can't reconnect (i.e. one has to remove and re-pair the device).

Am I the only one experiencing this? Any workaround/fix?

Thanks!

Ps. I have multiple DS4 and DS5 pads, all present the same behaviour - they pair and stay connected fine, but then they can't reconnect anymore.

First time gaming on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 08:14

I am back in Linux after not using it since Ubuntu back in 2012. I installed OpenSUSE on a Lenovo Thinkpad T470 with 7th gen intel i5 and integrated intel 650 HD graphics. It has 32gb ram and 2 tb ssd onboard. Should I continue forward with my current OS or go for something more gaming-oriented like Bazzite? I don’t have as much time as I used to for mucking about with tweaking but I don’t shy away from it either since I have some Linux experience. My ultimate goal -pipe dream- was/is to play Halo MCC with a friend from abroad. Should I lay it to rest and play on Xbox instead or can I make something work? Thanks!

Modding Mass Effect OG Trilogy ALOT & MEUITM

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 07:58

I've been trying to mod the OG Mass Effect Trilogy with mixed results. I get easily install content mods with ME3Tweaks Mod Manager under Wine. However, when I try to install ALOT and MEUITM with MEM (Mass Effect Modder) I'm getting many conflict errors, it doesn't exactly fail. I'm thinking these two texture overhauls can't be installed at the same time. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Third Party Xbox Controller Only Identified As Dualshock

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 03:33

I've been on Bazzite for less than a week, as a Windows 10 refugee. As it says in the title, I have a third party Xbox controller (Gamesir) that was my daily driver while on Windows. After switching to Bazzite, whenever I use it, it auto-detects as a PS4 controller, oddly enough. I connect the controller through the 2.4 ghz dongle, and it shows up as a PS4 controller in both Steam as well as my Controller section in my Settings. I was under the impression that Bazzite came installed with xone, which could handle both 1st party and 3rd party controllers. Is there something that I'm missing? Is there any way for me to check if I'm missing any drivers?

Help me understand Dual Bios GPU(First time delving into this)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 03:06

I have a XFX SPEEDSTER SWFT 210 AMD Radeon™ RX 7600 XT it has a switch on it for dual bios, I'm reminded by, MangoHUD it's(GPU) telling me I'm both TEMP and POWER throttled.

Is it just as easy as powering off my system flipping the switch and the GPU will no longer be throttled or do I need to go in to my bios?

I'm not a total noob I've been gaming on Linux for over a year, and I've built this machine from the ground up. I'm just new to pushing the performance of my machine to the next level.

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated!

Intel+Nvidia hybrid graphics cards - best distro?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 02:59

For those of you with Intel + Nvidia hybrid graphics computers/laptops - what distro do you find works best?

I'm running arch-based distros on my two hybrid graphics laptops and honestly I'm getting tired of spending 30 minutes finding work arounds for games (may the gods bless all those that contribute to the Arch wiki) - especially games that work flat out on my single graphic card AMD computer (which also has an Arch-based distro), or my intel-only laptop.

Why is Wine So Complicated? Seeking Help with Gaming on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 02:39

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to Linux and have been diving into it with a lot of enthusiasm. I’ve encountered various challenges along the way, but thanks to AI, helpful communities, and tutorials, I’ve managed to solve most of them. However, when it comes to using Wine, I feel like I’ve hit a brick wall.

I initially tried to install Wine on Linux Mint, but it ended up breaking my entire system, and I couldn’t boot anymore. In my attempts to fix it, I made things even worse. Now, I’m on Fedora Kinoite and trying to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) on Steam. The game never starts up; after an EA window pops up saying "preparing game," nothing happens. I did manage to get the game to launch once, but since then, it’s been back to not even starting.

I’ve also tried using different Proton versions, including Proton-GE, and various launch commands to get Battlefront 2 to run, but nothing has worked. The one time it did launch, it ran well, but there was a weird mouse input lag. I closed the game to look for solutions to the input lag, and when I tried to start it again, I encountered the same problem as before.

I also tried installing EA/Origin through Lutris, but it didn’t work properly and crashed after I logged in. I’ve read that Wine Staging could help, but I keep running into errors or missing dependencies when trying to install those packages. I even downloaded Wine through Flatpak, but that won’t launch either.

I’m just really frustrated and confused about why this process is so incredibly complicated. Is there something I’m missing? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Kubuntu weylus issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juli 2025 - 02:37

Hi, i'm using kubuntu, and when i use weylus, it works normal for a few seconds, but then it just freezes and receives zero FPS,For some reason, this issue only happens on linux, works fine on windows(i dual boot them), it's also inconsistent, sometimes it doesn't happen, sometimes it does happen but ends up working again out of nowhere, or sometimes it just keeps happening(the most frequent one). I need this issue fixed cause i use weylus for my webcomic and cannot find a good linux-compatible alternative
