FSR4 on RX7800XT in Stalker 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 07:05

Tried FSR4 on RX7800XT + R5800X on Linux via Optiscaler. Was much easier to make it work than I thought, considering I am on Ubuntu LTS.

latest mesa + ProtonGE 10.4+ + Optiscaler = FSR4 on RDNA3

Made a quick benchmark:
Resolution: 1440p
All settings epic except four settings under the shading quality block - they are at high.
FSR4 version is 4.0.0

FSR3 scaling Average FPS 100% 51.8 66% 66.35 FSR4 Scaling Average FPS 100% 46.3 66% 59.7 50% 64.5 33% 68 (cpu limited) FSR4 scaling FSR4 improvement vs FSR3 at 100% 100% -11% 66% +15% 50% +25% 33% +31% (cpu limited)

If global illumination is on epic - very severe flickering of grass happens (on FSR4 33% scaling only), there is no such issue if it is on high. Generally quality much better than FSR3 and 50% scaling provides very good experience.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 06:47

Just got a 9070xt, unsure if that's the changing factor, but audio in discord screenshare works now? I'm running Rocky 9.6. Can anybody else corroborate this?

Switched from Windows to Ubuntu on an old desktop; can't open games, barely open documents?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 05:40

I built a desktop in 2012 or so that's been a faithful friend for over a decade. It ran Windows 10 flawlessly, was able to run most games at least moderately well, and I never had any issues with opening documents. Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K

RAM: 16GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

Drivers: NVIDIA GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070) driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-570 (proprietary, tested)

My desktop is too old to meet the TPM requirements of Windows 11, and I'm very uncomfortable with Windows' increasing spyware and adware. I've always wanted to run Linux, and took the opportunity to install Ubuntu 25.04. I love Ubuntu, I think it's incredible. There are Windows programs I miss (mostly OneNote), but my light usage has gone really well.

However, I have real problems when I ask for any task of moderate difficulty. Transferring files across drives grinds everything else to a halt, and often crashes and requires a hard reboot. I can't open large document files in LibreOffice. Almost any game I run crashes when I try to start a game, sometimes even before opening the game. (VERY lightweight games can run, poorly, but are mostly unplayable.) I can't understand why! Ubuntu must be far more lightweight than Windows, and I'm not doing anything particularly complex or difficult. What am I doing wrong?

Blue Archive works out of the box on Steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 03:32

This is not a drill Senseis. Blue Archive just released on Steam and it works perfectly through regular Proton. We have never been more back.

(Arch KDE X11) New to Linux and Steam has slow download speeds that the 'steam_dev.cfg' fix doesn't fix

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 02:30

Native install of Steam for support sake. The absolute highest I've seen it hit is 127.X Mbps and after a while of running a download it will drop down to 75-6Mbps

Steam only launches with "LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 steam"?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 01:36

Hey guys, so today my Steam stopped being able to properly launch. Launching it shows an infinite loop, which you can view in the below pastebin below.

No GUI appears when attempting to open Steam.

Launching steam with LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 steam makes everything work as normal.

I already tried editing the steam.desktop file and setting the GPU rendering thing to false.

Pastebin link: https://pastebin.com/vKfYuy8U

Any help is appreciated. The only thing different I did today was I had some problems trying to build a .deb package into a PKGBUILD and was receiving some errors with something about qt5-base and I had to add qt-tools to path. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

EDIT: I'm on Arch

FSR4 Support Tracking

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juli 2025 - 01:17

I’m probably beating an old drum here already. But I just wanted to see if there’s a good source anywhere to keep up to date with FSR4 support or progress for Linux?

I recently built a console-like build for my TV with a 9070 XT running Bazzite, and I find every now and then when I search for any updates regarding FSR4 support I get the same results back, to which I’m guessing there has been no real updates. However, I’m still unsure where is a good reliable source to check occasionally besides through a search engine.

PortProton Launch Parameters

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juli 2025 - 23:32

Hi, does anyone know how to correctly add launch parameters to a game from PortProton? I can't get them to work. I need to add this parameter to GTA V, but it doesn't work:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="socialclub=n,b;version=n,b" %command%

By the way, I add it in the corresponding field within the shortcut options.

[QUESTION] Batman Advanced Launchers NVIDIA HBAO+ & NVIDIA Profile Inspector

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juli 2025 - 23:28

I know it's a very stupid question.
But going to ask anyway...
Has anyone had luck running NVIDIA Profile Inspector in Wine/Proton?

Why I want this?
Just trying to get HBAO+ in Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City
Tried their equivalent Advanced Launchers and they both have NVIDIA HBAO+ option greyed out.
I'd be happer if I could get Launchers to detect NVIDIA HBAO+.

Config:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
GPU: NVIDIA RTX3060 12G
OS: Arch Linux
Kernel: 6.15.4-arch2-1
DE: KDE Plasma 6.4.1
GPU Driver: nvidia-open 575.64-5

Linux Gaming PC Advice

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juli 2025 - 21:59

After years of using a gaming notebook I want to build a Linux gaming pc.

  • I want to use Cachy OS because it runs also great on the notebook.
  • I choose Asus Motherboard because I heard this brand has good Linux support.
  • Games should run higher as 1080P -> 2K or 4K
  • Ray-Tracing is not important to me. Should I choose 7900XTX or 9700XT?
  • I want to play Flight Simulator, Action-Adventures (God of War, Uncharted, Plague Tale), Shooter like Arma Reforger, Hell Let Loose and Racing Games like ACC or AC Evo
  • No VR Setup available but maybe in the future.
  • LG TV C1 with VRR and FreeSync available.

Playing steam games that are located on a different os (windows <> arch)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juli 2025 - 21:47

Hello I have dual booted arch alongside windows, and due to limited disk space (as well as unwillingness to remove windows and resize the partitions again) would like to know if it's possible to just play the games that are already installed on windows, directly inside arch. Is that achievable?
