Kernel 6.15.9 and up seem to break ext4 casefolding

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 2:14pm

Possibly earlier 6.15 kernel versions as well. 6.14.10 unaffected, 6.17.1 and 6.16.10 are affected.

Relevant for PSO2 NGS linux players. Both of you.

Unable to launch non-Steam games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 1:46pm

Hi I just stopped dual booting and started to just play games from my linux system really recently. But yesterday when I wanted to add a non-Steam game to steam, it just seems to not want to launch it. Below is the error that is preventing it from launching the game.

System:
- i3 13th gen
- nixos
- wayland
- using gamescope
- UHD Graphics (i1915)

Adding process 16347 for gameID 18018170976860110848

ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/mrkrebs/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64): ignored.

Game Recording - game stopped [gameid=18018170976860110848]

Removing process 16347 for gameID 18018170976860110848

has anyone run into this issue before? it seems to try and run in game overlay, but even after disabling in game overlaya it doesnt seem to fix it. Launching steam game do work normally though. Any help is appreciated

Linux distro for couch gaming machine with a GTX 1080

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 1:29pm

I want to use my old PC as a couch gaming machine. I've heard of things like Bazzite, but unfortunately it seems like it is not compatible with my GTX 1080. I wanted to know if there is any way to install the desktop version and turn it into a steam-deck-like experience ? Maybe by auto-booting steam in big picture mode ?

Has anyone tried something like this ? If yes, I'd love to hear how :)

x3d dual CCD CPU owners PSA: CONFIG_AMD_3D_VCACHE is in the kernel for you!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 12:19pm

CONFIG_AMD_3D_VCACHE

In linux kernel since version 6.13 (release Date: 2025-01-19)

The driver provides a sysfs interface, enabling the setting of a bias that alters CPU core reordering. This bias prefers cores with higher frequencies or larger L3 caches on processors supporting AMD 3D V-Cache technology.

Did 2XKO secure boot equirements changed?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 11:31am

So, I have a dual-boot with CachyOS and windows and I was thinking about setting up secure boot on Cachy to be able to play 2XKO.

When I was able to participate in earlier beta (it was a while ago, don't remember precisely when) I remember being stopped when launching the game, because Vanguard needed secure boot.

Yesterday, before setting up secure boot, I installed the game on windows and, out of curiosity, I tried launching the game. What surprised me is that I could: launch the game, do the tutorials, do bot matches and most importantly, I could go and play against real people (unranked tho)

I'm confused as if it's a change riot did that I missed (I couldn't find anything related to that) or if I found a bug in either Vanguard or the game itself?

Mei's Ending Route for 'Deluge: Sermon for the Dead' out now!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 11:06am

Last week we released the final ending route for our lovecraftian mystery game 'Deluge: Sermon for the Dead', centered around Mei's character. In this ending route, we delve into the history of Abbotsford's May Festival. A recurring tradition where ancient rituals are revived. Available on Steam.

If you haven't played the main game yet, it's free for Linux. Besides Steam it's also available on itch ( [Deluge: Sermon for the Dead by socah](https://socah.itch.io/deluge-sermon-for-the-dead) ).

Slow download speed on steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 10:52am

On steam my download speed is 2Mbps maximum when I download anything, I've tried using the console commands to turn off http2 and other commands, but it didn't help. I've tried turning off ipv6 and downloadn dnsmasq, but still nothing.

But here is the plot twist: Yesterday when I left my house for like 20 min while I was downloading fallout 3 my steam speed boosted upto to 500Mbps. So basically, when I returned to my house my pc was in 'hibernation' mode, when I logged back in I saw the speed boost instantly.

Before when I had gnome and not plasma I believe I didn't have this issue.

Also, yesterday I've reinstalled arch, so my system is fresh.

Is there anything I can do?

Just so you know, I have ethernet.

Thanks.

How to make HDR look right? Still not there?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 7:26am

9070xt here on latest KDE 6.4.5 Cachy os. HDR works. But I have an issue with peak brightness. I have an LG 27gs95qe woled that sets a peak of 600 in windows and KDE. This is the level read from the monitors edid. It has a peak sdr brightness of 276 nits. W11 recognizes this and by default the KDE HDR calibration has this as default as well. It says "50" by default when you do it but setting 276 keeps image exactly the same. In games like KCD2 and Alan Wake 2 in notice the sky is to bright. All over exposed. Turning down the max sdr brightness setting does not fix this. It just makes the entire image darker. So there is no way to get around it. Cyberpunk by default comes off brighter than W11 as well but I can calibrate around it with the settings available in game for the most part. Using Wayland HDR flags in steam. It's like HDR is allmost there but that last peak brightness level is t coming across. Stalker 2 Iv noticed this as well. The game looks amazing until you go look at something bright head on and it might look blueish or something from overexposure. Possibly being fixed with KDE 6.5? I read something along the lines of stuff for HDR brightness and tone mapping.

Want to finally move to Linux. Really specific question about hardware

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 6:58am

Hi r/linux_gaming! I've been considering finally biting the bullet and transitioning my Windows 10 gaming rig to a Linux machine with VFIO passthrough. My current PC has a Ryzen-3900x and RTX 3070. My motherboard is an x570 MEG ACE which lacks any APU support. Part of me is really wishing I just got a different motherboard at the time lol. I bought it before I know about any of this really. My main dilema is that since AM5 is now settling in, the price of AM4 hardware is realy coming down in price. Like a Ryzen 7 5700G would last a long time still... I wanted the APU because I want something with mid-level power to run Linux and Linux games, and let Windows have my Nvidia card. However I was also considering just switching to AM5, however I don't really like wasting perfectly good computer hardware. I'm gonna have to buy another motherboard either way to achieve my goal.

I already use PopOS for work/school as a dual-boot, but with Windows 10 support ending I don't want that as my host OS anymore. I'll virtualize that till the cows come home.

What do you guys recommend? I was considering buying AM5 hardware, the recycle the old AM4 parts for use in a server/media pc

EDIT: My current distro is PopOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 6:20am

Considering switching from Windows, Have Hardware Questions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Oct 2025 - 6:03am

I use my pc pretty much exclusively for games. I'm looking for the simplest solution to get to using Linux, but I have an old GPU from a donated PC. I may not even need that, but I dunno, so here's what I got:

Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC (I think 1.4 but I'll have to doublecheck)

AMD 5600G APU

32GB RAM

GTX 1060 6GB

1TB Western Digital spinny plate hard drive

2x1TB NVME from Kingston

I know the hard drives probably won't matter for Linux, but I threw them in there because I'm curious if I move all my game files on there, will they load and/or play slower than if they're on the NVME? Its just been sitting in there not holding anything because I haven't needed the space.

I've poked around, and it seems like my old GPU might have trouble being supported on Linux, but I've also gotten the impression that the GPU side of my processor is about the same in performance. Also, I'd like to continue using 2 monitors, which I haven't seen addressed anywhere so I assume its a non-issue, but one is HDMI and one is DVI because its cobbled together with a stupid big 4k tv I won in a damned raffle.

Any opinions on a distro to use would be welcome. I've already downloaded a handful but kinda want to get my storage and GPU sorted before I start testing. Thanks in advance
