Titanfall 2 EA app friends list not loading

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2025 - 7:24am
  • OS: Arch Linux
  • KERNEL: 6.14.2-arch1-1
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU
  • DRIVER: NVIDIA 570.133.07

I've been trying to play Titanfall 2 and the EA friends list cannot load and shows up as a blank window, I have tried both Proton 9 through 7 and GE-Proton9-27 through 9-24. I have also tried Hotfix and Experiential with no Success. Furthermore, I am using the Arch packaged version of Steam and have also tried 2 resources to help, which were:

this guide:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1233570/discussions/0/4360125073503465298/
which didn't work at all

and:
https://nm.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1jegtfo/found_a_solution_to_the_ea_app_friends_connection/
which causes the game not to launch anymore, but the friend list loads no issue.

I have also tried both of these together, with no success either. I'm really at a lost and any resources or help would be great!

Help. After upgrading to Fedora 42, reVC stopped running

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2025 - 3:24am

Hello everyone, before the system update re3, reVC and reLCS worked properly, but after the update to Fedora 42 reVC and reLCS stopped running. Error: glfw error x11 platform not initialized.

Does anyone know if these projects are still being developed? Or did everything stop after the Take-Two ban? How are things going with the GTA SA port?

Skyrim SE micro-stutter every second or so, starting within the last week

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2025 - 3:18am

Have a decent rig (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Vraylle/saved/YWC66h) running Linux Mint 22.1 xia, 6.8.0-58-generic. Been playing for months without any problem. Hadn't played in the last week or so, fired it up today and it's doing this bizarre stutter. Only game so far that does this. Have rebooted and am up to date.

Any suggestions on where to even start looking?

Has anybody else started getting the "VAC was unable to verify your game session" error out of nowhere? I was playing fine last night and even for a game today. I've tried closing/reopening steam and rebooting without success.

Steam installed but not launching on Fedora 42

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2025 - 12:13am

Like title says, I was able to install steam on a fresh F42 install but every time I launch I get an error. I investigated it in the terminal and it has something to do with some text file called "steambootstrapper_english.txt". Or maybe it doesn't. Who knows.

Migrating to Linux as a heavy gamer, and well adjust techie

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18 Apr 2025 - 11:36pm

So basically, I have a somewhat unique setup, and I would like to make the move to Linux gaming, but I need certain features and software replacements that I am having issues finding. I am fully aware a solution to my problems may not exist yet, and if they do they may require tinkering. I am very experienced in tinkering, 10 years ago I did do some tech support for my local Free Geek and learned to do some stuff on Mint back then, and I have dabbled in Ubuntu and (*edit, I had the wrong distro originally) Manjaro.

So, here is my current relevant setup to what I'm asking:

Ryzen 7 7800x3d

64gb 6000mhz ram

Rtx 4080

Elgato Wave 3 mic

Corsair keyboard and full Corsair RGB setup (this isn't 100% necessary, I usually just have it set to white), but iCUE controls my fan setup, and I would like something that could adjust say, my bottom fans, to my GPU temperature as iCUE currently does.

Logitech G502X mouse, I use the 3 buttons on the side of this mouse for discord/in game PTT. I REALLY need these 3 buttons to work for PTT, so some software to make that work.

I know Nvidia drivers are okay, but not great, that's fine. I do make content (sometimes stream, but mostly youtube), so my main issue here is I use Elgato Wave Link for my audio, and I need sources split for streaming and recording, and filters for my background noise and such. (Link to how it looks, the ui is very friendly and intuitive: https://imgur.com/a/GIdjc2U)

Common games I play that would need support that I'm unsure if they have: Escape from Tarkov, Baldurs Gate 3, League of Legends, EVE Online, Pokemon Infinite Fusion, Call of Duty, Minecraft just to name my more recent go-to's.

I did try installing (*edit, I had the wrong distro originally) Manjaro on my 2nd drive and ran into some snags, mainly around my audio, and I was having an issue finding something to replace it. Also, for some reason, I'm not sure if I messed something up in the install, but my Manjaro install is unable to access any of my Windows files, and my Windows install can't even SEE my Manjaro partition, it's like it doesn't exist.

I am totally fine with tinkering, I think I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Correct software replacements, easiest distro (or more compatible distro (Bazzite or Pop OS are new to me)), suggestions etc. all welcome, please and thank you good community.

how to get Genshin Impact working properly (without Lutris)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18 Apr 2025 - 11:04pm

hi!

a few months ago I asked the same question and got the answers, 'use lutris' and 'use proton'. since proton didn't work, I used lutris. All was well and all, until the last update got released. I had to reinstall the game when, surprise surprise, while I had correctly uninstalled the game, after reinstalling, the game showed up twice in lutris, and none of them actually did anything when I clicked them, on lutris or in my applications list.

uninstalling them only removed them from lutris, not my applications list, and reinstalling once again, it showed up twice more in the app list, and not once in lutris. at this point, I tried uninstalling lutris to reinstall it, and software threw an error telling me that there were no lutris packages to uninstall, while still clearly showing the 'open' and 'uninstall' buttons.

at this point, since i'd been wanting to change distros anyway, I said 'F this' and nuked my 'buntu to put fedora instead.

I don't really wanna go through all that again, so can anyone teach me how to install Genshin (through AAGL if possible) without having the same visual glitches I ran into when I first installed it?

Black screen with Tails of Iron + Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18 Apr 2025 - 10:16pm

Hi all.

i wanted to play this game but unlucky for me proton is not cooperating. i tried the following:

- tried to run with Linux runtime
- tried to run with proton experimental/hotfix/GE
- tried to run with the same proton versions but with the command protontricks 1283410 win7 wmp11

with linux runtime i can see steam overlay but game does not start at all. black screen + no audio,
with proton versions without the command all i got was a black screen with game audio playing normally, with protontricks command i get the same but i can see game cursor on screen as well. i am still pretty noobish with the whole linux ecosystem so i really don't know what else i could try to make this work... i posted on here because unlike Batman Arkham GOTYs (which i gave up trying to run) this should be linux native and yet it's not running so maybe there's something wrong with my setup.

System specs:
- kernel: linux
- OS: Arch
- GPU: Nvidia 4070 super
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800 X3D

many thanks to anyone kind enough to help!

WoW on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18 Apr 2025 - 10:10pm

Hi guys, first post over here.

I'm considering switching to Linux and I’d love to get your input before taking the plunge. My use case is pretty basic outside of gaming – mostly office work and browsing – but gaming is important, especially World of Warcraft.

Here are my key questions:

1 Does World of Warcraft run well on Linux today?

2 Are there any issues with performance, updates, anti-cheat, etc.?

3 How about addon managers like WowUp?

4 Does WowUp work on Linux (native or through Wine/Proton)?

5 Any good alternatives for managing WoW addons?

6 WeakAuras and other UI tools – do they work fine in-game under Linux?

7 Peripheral support:

How’s the support for Razer devices (mouse, keyboard)? Any open-source tools or reliable software?

8 Spotify and other daily-use apps – any limitations or workarounds?

9 Which Linux distro would you recommend for gaming?

I’m looking for something stable but not too restrictive. Steam and Battle.net access are a must.

I’ve got a bit of technical background so I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty, but I still want a good balance of stability and ease of use.

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback and recommendations!

guys really need some help, is it possible to have a linux distro that just "works" the way macOS works for me? I've had zero issues in the last 5 years of owning macbooks and want to badly replace my win11 gaming machine with a serious alternative...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18 Apr 2025 - 9:09pm

I'm just very unhappy with ms and hate what they are doing - I wish macOS supported DX12 and an eGPU but it doesn't really work. If I can find a distro that does everything and is fully protected with things like recovery if something goes wrong - I just want to use it as a gaming machine with a 4000 / 5000 series card

is it possbile that something can just work without any issues?

alternatively is there a way to disable all the crap on win11?
