Help me chose my daily driver after testing cachyos bazzite and nobara
Hi everyone so i have thoroughly tested out the above all of them have pros and all of them also have cons. Help me pick which one I should use as my daily going forward, i should say please no suggestions for regular distros cos I'm looking for a steam deck like set up so I need a gaming mode built in like these have.
Bazzite: seems the most polished experience where stuff mostly just works when it comes to launching games and playing them everything is pretty seemless I didn't have to troubleshoot anything untill it had this weird bug where it would treat my external SSD slower then an old laptop HDD. I mean slow to the point where textures couldn't load in. The internal storage was fine but it really didn't like external storage and out of the 3 distros it also ran my temps at by far the highest with the CPU constantly going above 80 which isn't ideal.
Cachyos: was perfect, absolutely perfect! Untill I updated it once and it broke my decky pluggin and removed a bunch of user settings but up u till I updated everything just worked amazingly well as good as bazzite and even my external storage worked like normal and I'm not kidding my temps ran on average at about 9 degrees cooler with more or less the same performance as bazzite but unfortunately I don't have the time to troubleshoot every time I update and something potentially breaks due to its update nature and also despite what the internet will have you believe in my testing cachyos was the worst performer not by a lot to mKe it meaningful but yeah those cooler temps came at a cost.
Nobara: now this one is frustrating cos I am getting the best performance from this whilst temps are a little higher than cachyos the performance gains are worth it and it doesn't run as hot as bazzite it's kinda of in between tempature wise. This also recognised and used my external storage fine without me even having to reformat it. It also grants you the freedom that bazzite doesn't in desktop mode. Nothing is locked down and you can install or change settings as much as you like however out of the 3 this is the most buggiest which is why it's so frustrating cos if the bugs weren't they're it'd be a no brainer but for some reason it won't pick up rumble or haptic feedback on my dualsence. Wired or wireless. It also has strange bugs when you launch games with a launcher it will freeze on the launcher screen and you can get around around it by holding the home button and that works for making it disappear and also the controller sometimes will bug out even further and start pressing buttons without input but it does get the best performance and it does grant you the freedom so it's very frustrating that these bugs exist.

Convince me to switch back to Linux mint..
Microsoft has Frankly crossed the line with this latest Security (infringement) update, and windows 10 being EOL. But I want to be able to play apex, fortnite, run lively wallpaper, OBS, and the Xbox app... Tell me there are easy ways ( meaning minimal to no commands) to do it..

What's the current status of Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) on Linux?
The game is currently on an all-time biggest discount on Steam and I am thinking of getting it, but could anyone share their experience of running the game on Linux? I am particularly interested in performance - I checked ProtonDB for comments and while they are "positive", people at times added that they get a frame rate around 40 fps. Personally, I would be interested in playing at smooth 60 fps.
Obviously, this relies a lot on hardware and my PC meets the recommended requirements except for the GPU (the recommended specs list "Nvidia GeForce® GTX (sic!) 2080 Ti", while I have GeForce RTX 2060), so I probably need all the performance I can get from my rig and thus I am interested how Linux fares here compared to Windows - is the performance comparable?
Also, if it makes any difference I would be interested in running this game specifically under Debian.
Please share your experience with running the title under Linux, preferably along with listing your hardware and used distro. Thanks in advance.

Using a virtual Windows installation for gaming when nothing else works. How viable is it and which apps are best?
So, I've recently decided to give Linux (Mint specifically, though it probably doesn't matter for this discussion) a new shot over a decade after giving up on it due to the how much more complicated gaming on it can be. While I expect to have some extra difficulties in installing or running certain games, one issue that is new compared to my last attempt to move to Linux is that one game that I play (Honkai Star Rail) does not work at all at the moment with either Wine or Proton due to anti-cheat. One option would be to have a dual-boot setup (which is what I have for now), but then I would have to have at least some other personal accounts, apps, and files stored or duplicated on the Windows side of the machine for when I'm doing a longer gaming session and might need to briefly switch away for some other task or while auto-farming (this happens often enough for me that it's a genuine issue). So one option I though might solve the anti-cheat issue while allowing me to mainly remain on Linux would some form of virtual machine. I have two monitors so it would be easy enough to run Windows on one of them while still having access to Linux on the other. But I have a series of questions about this idea.
Are there any potential issues with anti-cheat that I might not be aware of? Would it just work as if it was running directly on a Windows machine or would the fact that it's a virtual machine actually trigger the anti-cheat in some way? Is there a general answer to this or is it different from game to game? I would rather know the answer to this ahead of time rather than find out when my account gets banned.
How does running games in such a way affect performance? I expect that there will be some performance hit, but how big would it be? Would my current PC even be up to the task? My specs are as follows:
Intel i5 11400 (6C, 12T), 32 GB of RAM at 3200 MHz, RX 6700 XT, 3 TB of total NVMe storage (650 GB dedicated to the Linux installation at the moment).
What apps are out there that can run a virtual Windows machine and how do they compare to each other? I know about Virtualbox, but from what I've read it's not that great with 3D acceleration so probably not the best choice for this use case. Are there others that might be a better pick in this situation or is this a general issue with no real solution at the moment?
Are there any other questions that I might want the answer to but didn't know enough to ask them?
Overall what I'm doing right now is an experiment to see if I can do everything that I currently do on Windows on Linux instead, how much more difficult it is compared to Windows (especially gaming) and if I can handle the extra hassle. I plan to run this experiment for the next 6-12 months (I just started this week) and decide if when my extended security updates on Windows 10 run out I can safely switch to Linux or if I'll just have to stick with Windows and upgrade to 11 despite not really wanting to.
Thank you ahead of time for anyone that can help with some answers. :)
