Wondering what would be the best option for me?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 8:26pm

I have an RTX 4090 build that I current have set up to dual boot windows 11 and Fedora KDE.

Unfortunately, the experience on linux hasn't been great. I have 2x ultrawide monitors and 2x 16x9 monitors. I was having a lot of issues getting games to scale correctly with my 3440x1440 resolutions on my main display for games using xwayland. The correct 3440x1440 resolution would just be missing. So I had to force enable gamescope to get some games to pick up the correct resolution and force HDR.

Are there any good workarounds to this yet? Some distro like bazzite or cachyos that will just work from the get go without having to set gamescope in launch options for games?

The OS sees the right resolution

but xwayland does not

Anyone Playing Honkai Star rail on Linux ? Launcher stuck at "Disable Telemetry" step

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 8:03pm

Hey guys,

I’m on EndeavourOS and tried installing Honkai: Star Rail using the Honkers Railway Launcher. Everything went fine, the launcher downloaded and installed the entire game successfully but once it reached the “Disable Telemetry” step, it just gets stuck there, the launcher is still interactive ( I can open the launcher settings and everything) but there's no launch option for the game, it's just the greyed out "disable Telemetry" button.

No matter how long I wait, it never proceeds to the next step. If I close and reopen the launcher, it still shows the “Disable Telemetry” option, and clicking it again just hangs there forever.

So I wanted to ask, What are you guys using to run Honkai: Star Rail on Linux right now?

Steam Flatpak FSR4 not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 7:04pm

I'm on Debian Testing, 9070XT, Steam, MangoHud and Proton GE installed as flatpaks. Mangohud is set as [Environment] MANGOHUD=1 in /var/lib/flatpak/overrides/com.valvesoftware.Steam

I use FSR4_UPGRADE=1 FSR4_WATERMARK=1 %command% for both The Last of Us 1 and 2, but there is no watermark and FSR4 ins't selectable. I was under the impression that FSR4 worked with Proton GE by default. Did I overlook anything? See full software versions below.

WIndows 10 User, recommend me some distros

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 7:00pm

Hey there. Windows 10 user here thinking about switching over to Linux once my extended license runs out next year. SInce I got the ESU license, I have some time to shop around for linux distros before having to hard commit to it, so I'm planning on dual booting some distros to see which one I like the most. Just wanted to know if people had some recommendations. Main ones that I've heard of so far that I'm interested in are Pop OS, Nobara, and Bazzite.

The main games I play are modded Bethesda games(Skyrim, Morrowind, New Vegas being the main three), Ready or Not, Monster Hunter, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Helldivers 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Singleplayer Tarkov, STALKER, etc. And I do use programs like ModOrganizer2, XEdit, Creation Kit, and other modding tools.

Currently running a Ryzen 5800X3D, RX 9070 XT, 32 gb ram, and a 2tb SSD(OS and un-modded to lightly modded games)+1tb NVME(for heavily modded games).

Oh, and I do also have an ROG Ally X that I may also switch over to Linux in the future. So lemme know if there are seperate distros I should try out for handheld vs desktop.

Bazzite

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 6:17pm

Hello,

As from this month windows 10 won't be supported anymore unless LTS is it worth it to switch to bazzite as a gamer?

What are the things you ran into as a windows user?

Are most games compatible?

Can I run windows games that I already have on my external drive or I need to reinstall it?

Thx

Mouse polling rate not reaching 1000hz

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 5:30pm

I have a gaming mouse that is capable of 1k polling rate as configured and tested on a Windows machine. I've set my mouse to 1000hz on a Windows install, booted up Linux and used evhz. It constantly shows a average of 500hz polling rate and very rarely hits 1000hz (The average value is always 500hz).

I use EndeavourOS so I followed this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Mouse_polling_rate

I used systool -m usbhid -A mousepoll and it shows that my mousepoll is set to 0, which means my polling rate should be 1000 since it uses the interval requested by the device, right?

I also ran grep -B1 -A10 "Bus=01 Lev=00" /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices and got this:

T: Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=480 MxCh= 9 B: Alloc= 0/800 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=01 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=1d6b ProdID=0002 Rev= 6.17 S: Manufacturer=Linux 6.17.3-zen2-1-zen xhci-hcd S: Product=xHCI Host Controller S: SerialNumber=0000:16:00.0 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr= 0mA I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 4 Ivl=256ms

I've figured that my issue is in the "Known Issues" section but I couldn't follow it. Can someone help me fix this issue or help me understand it?

My mouse is connected to a USB 3.0 port.

This is because if you do not have a physical keyboard you won’t be able to type. Step 41: download and install everything it asks and click OK Step 42: go on your web browser and download Custom Shaders Patch which should look like: lights-patch-v0.2.7.zip Step 43: drag that zip file into content manager and on the top right you will see it downloading. game recommendations

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 4:49pm

Hey guys! I am using a minipc with an Ryzen 8700g apu and 32gb of RAM. I am not really a gamer but I would like to find some simple games I can rum on this pc. I am not a tech guy so I have no clue but I think it should run most of the steam deck certificated games fine because it is similar in performance?

I am using a 4k monitor so I have scale down for gaming to 1080p.

I like for example Tower Defense, Stardew, round based stuff, racing, role playing.

So can you recommend games for steam that are worth buying and will run on this pc?

Apple killing Mac gaming has hurt Linux gaming adoption

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 4:47pm

Hear me out.

As some of you know, Apple spent the last couple years actively hurting Mac gaming.

OpenGL deprecation. Change from Intel (x86_64) to Apple Silicon (ARM). Backwards OS compatibility gutted. Blocking the use of Vulkan. Forcing all the devs to use Metal and update their already released games.

Mac gaming percentage share went down on Steam. Linux share went up. Steam Deck got released. All good, right?

Yes, but no.

You see, Linux gaming before Steam Deck and before Proton always piggybacked on the adoption of Mac gaming.

It was Mac publishers specialized in porting that first opened the way to mainstream games on Linux. It was also Mac games being sold on Steam and GOG that paved the way for Linux games being sold there.

But most importantly, it was gaming on underpowered Macbooks that propagated the idea of gaming on whatever computer or OS you might have in the golden era of Windows being synonymous with PC gaming.

Now the situation of gaming on Macs is so bad that many porting companies went under, while others had to diversify their offer and start porting to consoles or mobile devices.

And what has become of Linux gaming? We became reliant on Proton. And while it made amazing things possible we also started hearing from developers and publishers that they will retire their native Linux builds in favor of maintaining Proton compatibility of the Windows build.

But is that what really happened? Or perhaps instead we've got games supporting Steam Deck, but not Linux. Or games disabling their anti-cheat compatibility with Proton. Or games breaking Proton compatibility with each update.

Just to make things clear: I love Proton. I love Steam Deck. I use both. They allow me to live very comfortable gaming life.

Yet silently, in the background, gaming on Linux became obsolete and forgotten in the eyes of the mainstream.

You can make a point that gaming enthusiast video influencers like Linus Tech Tips has driven waves of newbies into trying out Linux gaming. And yet, every week on Reddit and other places on the internet PC gamers say: Linux is not ready for gaming because I can't play my favorite game.

Linux gaming was never about playing every single game available on Windows, Playstation, Switch, Android etc. Just like Mac gaming was not that.

It was about the freedom of choice. It was about being able to play video games on any computer or OS. It was about industry perception, being seen by people who make and sell video games.

And now, thanks to Apple, this kind of visibility is gone.

Long live Windows 11, the only Windows that is left. Long live Proton making running Windows games on Linux possible.

For now.

Guardians of the Galaxy (Epic) very slow and washed out when HDR is enabled

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 4:34pm

I'm using Nobara HTPC edition and I'm just starting with gaming on Linux despite using Linux for 15 years now.

I'm having an issue when I enable HDR in Guardians of the Galaxy. The FPS is like 1-10fps and almost impossible to navigate. It also looks very washed out. I already completed this game on Windows and it definitely didn't look like this. In fact, I loved its HDR and that's why I wanna play it on Linux and test out how well HDR works.

Anyone knows of a fix? I mean it's not very important but I would very much want to try New game Plus with HDR enabled 😄

Rocket League (Epic) stuck in main menu when added to Steam and in gaming mode/SteamOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 4:21pm

I'm running Nobara HTPC variant.
I have Rocket League via Heroic Launcher then added to Steam using the built in function.
However, if I run the game in gaming mode as a standalone game, I'm stuck in the main menu although it doesn't look frozen. If I run it from Heroic Launcher, ran inside gaming mode too, this issue doesn't happen and I think the thing that's causing this is the login dialog. That's what I see that shows up when you press any button in the main screen.

Anyone knows if there's a fix for this? I know I can just run it inside Heroic Launcher but that's a lot complicated to do since Heroic isn't controller friendly (still doable with Steam Controller's mouse function) and it doesn't even scale well in 4K 😅

AMD RX 9060XT or RX 9070XT?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Oct 2025 - 3:33pm

I am looking to future proof my computer and I want to upgrade the video card before the new tariffs hit.

I mostly run WoW but I do have other games such as the Batman series, Hogwarts, FF7, etc, that I pick away at.

However, I am having issues determining the benefit of paying double the price from a 9060XT to a 9070XT.

Fedora KDE.

I would love to hear what your opinions are!
