Linux on wii U

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 10:52pm

I've never used Linux in my life, but after getting a friend to explain it to me, apparently a modded wii u can run linux arch? Does this mean it can run pc games through linux? I don't really need it to be functional, i just think the idea of running roblox or smth on wii u is absolutely hilarious.

Ps i know there are videos on this subject, but they're all proof of concept and don't really show anything off.

Mad at windows, only use my PC to game. How much trouble is it for a Linux newb to switch?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 10:34pm

I am getting so sick of windows forcing AI garbage onto me. How hard would you say it would be for a Linux newb to switch? My main games are Red Dead Redemption 2, Baldurs Gate 3, fallout 76, and classics like bioshock. I do plan on buying a steam cube for playing in my living room but still want to use my PC for more graphically intense titles etc. My machine is intel based with a GeForce card. Thank for the help moving away from Microsoft.

VR: Quest 3 (via wivrn via cable)
I did add the launch command line in the game proprieties as wivrn said but still, no signs of life. what can I do?

Winetricks question to people who uses Wine only

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 9:45pm

I prefer to use Wine only. Which DLLs do you use from Winetricks? Some are essential like DXVK or D3DX. Does anyone have a list of necessary DLLs for gaming?

How good is the long term reliability of Western Digital's SN850X 8tb SSD? I've been hearing mixed things on it.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 9:23pm

As the the title says I bought WD's 8tb SN850X and at first I felt good about my purchase, but then I started seeing things about it being unreliable and failing soon after purchase, that 8tb drives in general are less reliable than smaller ones, etc. So Can I get some opinions and/or facts about whether this is true, ya'lls thoughts, and whether I should exchange this for smaller drives. I would really prefer to stick with 8tb if I can, I have high storage needs and would prefer to stick with that size but reliability is more important to me.

Need help with ARC Raiders

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 8:52pm

I am fairly new to Linux and am using POP_OS! and whenever I try and run ARC raiders from steam, it either wont open (this is what happens most of the time), a file will be corrupted, or something else prevents me from playing. I have tried changing the compatibility tool, verifying the integrity of the files, as well as uninstalling steam entirely and reinstalling it. I cant think of anything else I can do so any help would be appreciated.

Am I using HDR?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 8:24pm

So was wondering if someone could explain to me how HDR is supposed to be setup. I am using Fedora 43 (Gnome) with a 9070XT, over HDMI to my LG C2.

When using my TV, I change to a different tty (Ctrl Alt F3) and run gamescope with the "--hdr-enabled" flag (amongst other flags). It results in a great experience with 4K120 and VRR (Freesync).

I am well aware of the limitations with HDMI 2.0, so I am running with chroma sub sampling. The TV is stating "YCBCR420 8b TM HDR10" with Freesync enabled, which is what I'd expect. Everything has that "pop" with HDR enabled, even the menus.

If I boot up something like CyberPunk with the system-level HDR enabled it is again, quite vibrant, but if I then enable HDR in the game settings, it is washed out - blacks turn to greys etc. If I turn off HDR system level the game isn't as vibrant.

So my question is, what am I seeing? Am I seeing HDR implemented in all games, but game specific HDR implementations are not meant to be used?

Why does steam download shaders (almost) in each and every start?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 8:02pm

Basically subject. I'm playing the finals and I see that almost every time, there's some shader precaching involved, followed by Vulkan processing before the game starts.

* Is that normal?

* Is there a configuration that avoids that and, if so, which would be the disadvantages?

My gpu is a 9070, playing on Arch, normal Linux kernel, 32Gb of RAM.

What’s the best Linux distribution for gaming (RTX 5090 + Threadripper 7960X)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 7:56pm

I’m getting tired of Windows 11 Pro’s telemetry and constant issues, so I’m considering switching to Linux for gaming. I don’t play online, and my hardware is an RTX 5090 with a Threadripper 7960X.

For someone mainly focused on single-player gaming, which Linux distro would give me the best performance, stability, and overall experience? Any recommendations or things to watch out for?

Looking for great strategy games like CK2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 Dec 2025 - 7:47pm

Because CK2 weirdly runs like utter poop and I honestly have no clue why.
