Minecraft on wayland.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 9:34am

I have seen a lot of posts of how to play minecraft on pure wayland but they all need patching. I seen one post that says it has gotten a lot better but it was a year ago. Now what do you need to do to run minecraft native on wayland?

Blue Prince: Game launches, but when I click "new game" on the home screen to start it, after loading for a few seconds, this pops up. Any Ideas?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 8:50am

These are my hardware specs:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 1700X

GPU - RTX 2070

Motherboard - MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX AM4 Motherboard

OS - Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS

Monitors - Two 16:9s and one 21:9

So far, this are the troubleshooting I’ve tried(not too knowledgeable about it, so some might be dumb):

-Vsync on/off

-Tried each monitor

-Disconnected all monitors except one 16:9

-Closed all other programs

-Played with and without VPN

-Restarted Computer

-Uninstall/Reinstall(with & without a VPN)

-Tried Proton versions: Experimental, 9.0-4, 8.0-5, and Hotfix

is mint a good distro for games and work.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 6:50am

So lately i have been tired of windows and wanna switch. I hear from freinds that mint is good to start out on but some ppl say it has bloat, i also am getting into coding and stuff so i dont want a full game focused distro like nobara. and well arch i hear it's good but will just make you lose motivation if you try it to early on so yea advice would help btw the games i play are mainly cpu weighted minecraft, roblox, other games. I do also play rdr2 tho so yea atleast i have a amd gpu tho 7700xt also 7 5700x so drivers should not be toooo hard. (overall i know it will prob be faster then win 11 bc well its win 11)

How do you mod Skyrim on Linux with all the corresponding programs you need to use like LOOT, SSEEdit, ParallaxGen etc.?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 6:04am

So, i managed to get Mod Organizer 2 working, either adding it as a non-steam shortcut, or using that install script from github.

That part is fine.

But i can't install LOOT, i get the "Internal error: Failed to expand shell folder constant "autopf"" either running it from native wine, or within the proton prefix with protontricks.

There's LOOT flatpak, but it doesn't recognize any plugins except the default ones. In MO2 i selected the portable install with profiles, and the file that LOOT is supposed to get the list from is in the mo2/profiles/default folder, and i point LOOT to it, but nothing...

The LOOT AUR version doesn't install.

Then i'd need some animation engine. Last time i used Nemesis, it got an error cause it couldn't recognize the folder structure. There's Pandora, but how do i run Pandora linux version within MO2 so it can recognize all the animations?

I'm less worried about the "non-install" things like ParallaxGen and BethINI, i tried BethINI and it works, just add the exe to MO2 and that's it, probably the same with ParallaxGen, BodySlide and similar.

Does SSEEdit work and SSEEdit auto clean? DynDOLOD works?

But what about vRAMR? That's a windows shell script. I can do without it, but it would possibly be nice to have it.

Can someone help? I know Limo exists, but i have no idea how to use it, or how to use the programs you need to run for Skyrim with it.

How do i make LOOT and Pandora work?

CS2 + Faceit

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 5:55am

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move to a Linux os from windows so I'm very new to this. The only thing stopping me is gaming on Linux, so just wanted to ask the community for input.

Can I run CS2 and Faceit on any Linux distro? Are there any tradeoffs compared to Windows?

Also, what about GeForce and GSync?

Streaming with steam remote play to a screen with a higher resolution than your monitor?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 4:49am

I've recently been streaming games on my local network to my quest 3 using steam link, I'm trying to aim for a 1440p stream, but my monitors are only 1080p so I can't raise the games resolution above 1080p. On windows it appears the solution to this is to add a custom resolution using the AMD/Nvidia control panel, but I've been unable to find a way to do this with kde/wayland is there a tool I'm missing? I have an AMD gpu.

I've also tried to use Gamescope to set a custom resolution in the games launch options. This works and I'm able to set the resolution to 1440p on my monitor but when I try to stream it using this method it just results in a black screen for the client. Is that expected behavior or should I file a bug report?

This is the gamescope command I've been using in launch options. "gamescope -f --backend sdl -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 90 -- %command%"

Heroic Launcher "Run exe on Prefix" not working while in game?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 4:24am

I'm trying to run a fling trainer or even cheat engine installed in the same prefix using Heroic Launcher's Run exe on Prefix. The problem is, both can't run at the same time. If I launch the game first, then run the trainer, the trainer will not launch until I exit the game. Same thing happens in reverse if I launch the trainer first.

From doing internet searches, this may be due to Heroic and Lutris using umu-launcher now, which is what is preventing two exe's running in the same prefix at the same time. I have tried "Disable umu" toggle in Heroic Settings, tried Wine-GE instead of Proton-GE and tried wine-staging as runners but all produce the exact same problem.

Anyone here having the same problem?

r2modman on Fedora Linux KDE: Is it better to get the AppImage or the RPM?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 4:16am

AppImage or RPM?

Also, I installed the RPM one months ago and never used it, and it hasn't auto-updated, so I'll either replace it with a newer RPM, or an AppImage. If I end up doing RPM, do I need to remove the old one first? And how would I do that? I'm actually so used to using flatpaks that I don't think I ever uninstalled an rpm I got online before lol

Shogun 2 Linux & Windows Multiplayer

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 4:05am

Has anyone been able to get multiplayer working on Shogun 2 multiplayer running between a Linux user and a Windows user? It seems that Shogun 2 considers linux versions as "modded" even while running through proton, so the versions are not compatible.

Small question regarding fortnight on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 3:44am

From what im seeing in my library, Valve made a version of proton specifically for easy anti chat. Fortnight uses easy anti cheat. So whats stopping us from using that to run Fortnight?

OBS crashing, 'amdgpu: the cs has been rejected'

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 3:38am

Not sure what is going on but while trying to stream games obs has suddenly started crashing while using the VAAPI encoder(h264 still works, kinda, it chokes my cpu to death).

The error I am getting in console is "amdgpu: The CS has been rejected, see dmesg for more information (-22)."

I tried googling this and got no help, so I am hoping someone here has run into it.

anyone else with 575 nvidia beta drivers getting unplayable fps on overwatch 2?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 2:29am

iv tried x11 and native wayland and disabling nvapi stuff like dlss and reflex to no avail, the only solution was a driver downgrade but id like to use it if others have found a workaround for overwatch as nothing else had issues.

HDR on titles with a launcher on Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 2:24am

How do I run HDR on titles that, from steam, launch a separate launcher/updater, then, from there, launch the game? Like an MMO, specifically Warframe.

I tried using gamescope --force-grab-cursor -f -w 2560 -h 1080 -r 75 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output --xwayland-count 2 -- env STEAM_MULTIPLE_XWAYLANDS=1 DXVK_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command% , all 3 topmost versions of Proton (exp, 9.0-4, hotfix), different commands (I don't remember all of them), and nothing so far worked.

I'm using a relatively fresh install of Bazzite, still figuring out how to translate the workflow I had on Windows on my 2nd day of daily driving a Linux, so I'm mostly a noob, still, so I might be missing something obvious.

If it helps, I'm running Warframe in borderless fullscreen on an ultrawide display that I know has HDR support because I used HDR on Warframe on Windows. I can provide logs if anyone teaches me how to do so, I'm mostly running blindly into things until I learn.

Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 Battery Drain While Plugged and Low Powered GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 2:15am

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14APH8 with RTX3050 and Ryzen 7 7840HS. I got this laptop 6 months ago it worked fine until now. The first issue I noticed was the low powered GPU while gaming. I have nvidia-powerd turned on but while gaming the nvidia GPU is stuck between 30-40 watts although the power limit is set to 58 watts(which is the expected TDP with dynamic boost). The 2nd problem I noticed is battery draining while even plugged. To further investigate the issue I turned off tlp and auto-cpufreq and unplugged the power brick and the power draw was 80 watts. My 140W power brick was not able to provide enough power to stop the drain and use the GPU at full power. While reading some similar issues on internet I saw somebody to mention airplane mode. Then I remembered that airplanes have 75~ watts power limits on their outlets.

I use:

-Arch Linux

-Linux-Zen 6.14.2

-Nvidia-open-dkms 570.133.07

-Proton Experimental, GE-Proton 9.27

-TLP default configuration with disabling the CPU options

-Auto-cpufreq with following options:

[charger] governor = performance turbo = auto platform_profile = performance [battery] governor = schedutil energy_performance_preference = power platform_profile = low-power

Here is the nvtop and btop while gaming:

And here is powertop Device Stats Report while gaming:

Ps5 controller support in steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 2:08am

Here's where I'm at.

A while ago, like maybe within the last year, I couldn't get my ps5 controller to work in Steam with pretty much anything.

I searched and searched and eventually found a solution that not only worked, but also felt ridiculously simple how easy it was.

But I can't remember what it was.

I have 2 pc's now-one where steam works with the ps5 controller and one which doesn't.

Despite mirroring the settings in steam between the two as perfectly as I can think to do, nothing is getting the ps5 controller to work on the second machine.

The one that isn't working senses the controller and everything looks like it should work, but once a game is opened it ceases functionality.

What can I do to try and narrow down what the answer was, short of someone here just knowing it?

Any help is appreciated.

Linux Help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21 Apr 2025 - 1:27am

Hello, I'm building a gaming PC, and I'm thinking about using a Linux system (specifically Zorin OS). I like playing games (from story mode to emulators and online games). I also do video and image editing, and I'm thinking about learning programming in the future, but it's just to see if I'll really like this programming thing. What do you think?
