MSI Raider A18 HX A7VX (Ryzen 9 7945HX3D + RTX 4090) Gaming on Nobara Linux. Performance seems to be variable but worse than Windows 11?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 4:07pm

I have admittedly only tried two PC games so far.

One was Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot with the "DBZK_Fix" mod which unlocks the FPS cap and allows non-standard aspect ratios, like 16:10.

It is consistently ~15-20% worse than on Windows.

Cyberpunk 2077 is more weird.

So on Windows, I can do an undervolt (-18 Curve Optimizer) on my CPU, and a massive OC (+200 Core, +1600 Memory) on my GPU.

I don't know how to do this on Linux.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Linux (remember, no OCing) seems to match my OCed Windows performance... unless I use Frame Gen. In Windows, Frame Gen doubles it for me. In Linux, it's only about 10-20 more FPS, when the standard is ~50-55 for ALL RT options maxed and DLSS on Quality.

My GPU driver is set to Wayland, not sure if that matters.

AOE4 issues online

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 3:05pm

Have been playing AOE4 with mate online for a while, we use 400 pop mods, etc. to make the game more interesting.

I've been having issues lately (and maybe for a while now reflecting on it) when playing on Gnome when the game FPS drop below 10 & the game on screen slowly ends up out of sync by 5-10 min (over a 3-4 hour session) to the point its unplayable.

I don't seem to have these issues on KDE though.

Gaming setup:

- AMD 5900x (b450 chipset)
- AMD 6900XT
- 64GB RAM
- 4k 144hz with freesync display

Running on Fedora 42.

The issue feels like network, but each time I'm on KDE I just don't feel like these issues exist.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue?

Minecraft 25w43a gets improved Wayland support

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 2:52pm

I've been using the glfw fork which adds native wayland support to Minecraft. This latest snapshot wouldn't launch. As it turns out this snapshot uses lwjgl 3.3.6 up from 3.3.3. Either uninstalling glfw-wayland or using the bundled glfw fixes the issue. Seems that Wayland support has been improved in this snapshot.

Am I misunderstanding something about color space/pixel format?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 1:19pm

I'm aware of the issue with HDMI 2.1 on AMD GPUs. Flark HDMI Forum LOL
However, in KDE's display settings, I can set the reosolution to 4K@120Hz + HDR + Full RGB Range.
So is it a lie? I'm not sure how to verify this on my TCL TV yet.
And if in case it's limited RGB, if I switch to 4K@60Hz, would it become full RGB?

I'm using a TV and eARC so HDMI is a must and I can't use a DP to HDMI adapter.
I've only recently started gaming on Linux so these issues I've been encountering are new to me.
I've used Linux for 15 years but never for gaming 😅

Total War Warhammer 3 Mod Manager

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 12:46pm

This might be too specific. I am currently playing Warhammer 3 with more than 100 mods enabled, and my mod manager or any other mod manager I could find doesn’t support linux. I am using Windows 11 rn but want to switch to linux, but still want to play Warhammer 3 with +100 mods.

Is there any way for me to do this or do I just need to switch to linux after I am done with the game?

My First PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 10:59am

This would be the first time I make a PC, and knowing how bad Windows is, I thought of putting Linux in this computer.

Context: I have an Xbox series X many games bought digitally and no desire to redo game pass given the price increase. The solution would be simple, make a Windows PC so I can play all the digital games there and no problems. But the problem here is Windows, I don’t like it, I hate that it has to be constantly updated, it consumes too much resources and is unusable at times. So, is it possible on Linux to run the games purchased on the Microsoft Store?

Mouse+Keyboard customizing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Oct 2025 - 9:55am

Nobara42, full red rig here. Is there a manufacturer of a mouse and keyboard that is fully customizable (like keymapping) under Linux and suitable for gaming? And, like the cherry on top, manageble LED remapping with profil saving? I am unfortunately not able to use openrgb in a propper way (maybe iam too old for that sh**t) :-) Right now, i have a mouse and keyboard from steelseries and not able to customize it. Greetz
