Another Linux noob leaves windows behind forever! :)
Hey everyone,
Apparently you guys are friendly over here! It's great to be here.
I finally made the switch. I'm 100% on linux now. After 30 years of windows, I decided that's it. I'm doing it. And I am so glad I did. I am now running Fedora 42 KDE Plasma, and everything is great.
I realised my reluctance to change was because of Apex Legends and Delta Force (you know, the anti-cheat that doesn't work anyway). I haven't played them now for months, and do you know what? I'm doing ok. There's plenty more games in the Steam!
So I just wanted to share my story in the hope that someone on the fence sees it, and decides to make the same decision.
Now I imagine many of you here are experts already. In fact I know many are, as when troubleshooting, I get brought here. It's how I found the place. Thanks for the help!
I'm just the new (linux) guy who you can look at and say "You don't know how lucky you have it boy!" and I get it. But I'm really am pissed off with windows and no matter what happens to this post, if one person sees it and decides, "screw it, I'm done with windows too" then I'll be happy.
With that in mind, and I am putting my neck out here, I am also tracking progress via YouTube, and would love it if anyone else is on the same journey, to join me..
I want to track the challenges we face from a newbie perspective. There are plenty of experts out there already and I really appreciate that support, but I want to capture the challenges for those who are not experts trying to make the switch.
Anyway, if you got this far in the post and are interested, pop over and say hi!
I'm a chilled english dude and my voice may put you to sleep, but that's ok too right?
If not, that's also ok, and sorry for wasting your time.
Thanks for reading. My friends call me Mo.

Logitech G Pro wheel
I've seen some say it's not greatly supported (the github rating repo and elsewhere) but haven't seen anyone actually write up that they've got a g pro wheel working on linux.
Anyone got one? Was it a pain to get running?

The Nvidia DX12 problem
Hey guys, I recently bought a new laptop with a RTX4050 and quickly found out about the ABYSMAL difference in performance the NVIDIA drivers have in Linux when compared to windows. Things got worse now because almost every new game is DX12 only, so it prompt me to ask 3 questions:
Is there anything I can do to solve that issue, maybe a temporary fix before a real solution appear? (I'm on arch btw)
Are those problems also a thing when using AMD GPUs?
For the ones that are more tech savvy out there, why it's so hard for the NVIDIA developers to fix that problem, it's been months since they recognize it, is this a technical thing or just lack of interest?

Cursor wont go to edge of the screen
Hey, I'm a fresh install of arch with kde plasma. I've tried age of empires 2 and marvel rivals and im having the issue on both.
Basically I my mouse cursor cant go within 1 or 2 cm of the actual window border on the right side and bottom. I can use the left and top tho. It feels like the cursor is locked into a smaller resolution if that makes sense.
I'm using proton experimental but have tried other versions and the game didnt launch properly
Intel i54460
RX 580 something
Cheers <3

Controller not working on some Fromsoftware titles
I'm on steam flatpack on Arch with an KDE and an AMD GPU and CPU, on most tittles my wired Xbox controller works fine. But on Nightrein and Armored Core my controller input is not working . On Sekiro and Elden Ring it works fine and can even swithc to keyboard and mouse without problem mid game. I have tried enabling and disabling steam input, restarting game and Steam, launching from Big Picture Mode.
As far as I can tell these games share the same settings (Steam input disabled vs not. proton version, launch commands, steam overlay disabled) Could not find any reports issues on protondb. Anyone have any ideas to solve this issue?

NVIDIA dGPU completely *dissappearing* out of nowhere and leaving me unable to launch games
Either after resuming from a long suspend, or after some time of playing and when I close and try to reopen the game, the game will never show up and when I check out in Steam, it shows that the game is "already running" and it gets completely stuck there, and the NVIDIA GPU does not even appear anymore on nvtop, as if it was somehow "disconnected", therefore leaving me completely unable to play. Logging out and in doesn't fix the issue, I have to fully shutdown and boot up again to get NVIDIA graphics working again. At this point, it's quite frustrating due to how so often this happens.
Any fixes? Thank you in advance.
PD: I'm on a laptop, integrated Radeon Graphics (iGPU) and RTX 3050 (dGPU).

After 2 days of the last post I made of me being banned from an unturned service for using Linux. i had to cut the video because it took 1 minute to download the mods

9060xt coming up “Unknown on LACT”
Hi everyone, Linux newcomer here
I’ve recently upgraded to a 9060xt 16gb and I’ve been looking to undervolt and overclock. So poking around on lact I noticed that the gpu name, card model and manufacturer all came back as unknown.
Is this expected behavior for a recently released card on lact and I’m good to go or is this reflective of some issue?
Distro: Bazzite

Anyone having this issue with (specifically) Hot Wheels Unleashed 2?
This has been driving me to madness since I picked the game up on sale through steam. It runs flawlessly, bar this weird graphics/texture issue which only makes itself apparent during races, no other area of the game seems to be effected. So far I've tried:
- Reverifying game files
- Moving the install to a new drive
- Tinkering with in-game video settings
- Running through several different proton layers
- Running evin fullscreen, windowed, floating and tiled
The thing is; I know this looks identical to the a GPU finally starting to die/fail/break. Having been said, I know this isn't the problem. It's the first time I've had a first-hand, new-from-retailer GPU, it's only 6 months old, and my PC hasn't moved, been bumped, or exposed to water damage or power surges whatsoever. I'll also boot up any other game (beit more or less GPU intensive) with no issues.
I just wanna drive some hot wheels man :( please help me
Also, feel free to crucify me in the comments for filming the monitor and not just screenrecording, it was like 4am and I was on my last legs 😂

What are you guys using to stream your games away from home?
Just wondering what the general consensus is on the best solution for streaming your games while away from home.
Also, what's the best solution on the same local network?

Linux mint user here. Am i able to play Minecraft bedrock online with friends that are on xbox.
I've been thinking about buying minecraft from here https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-bedrock-edition-pc?tabs=%7B%22details%22%3A0%7D so i get bedrock and java. anyway, i saw a post saying something along the lines of needing an android license and was also wondering if buying from there would give me that too and if that would even allow online functionality.

No matter the release of Ubuntu, I get this steam problem
When playing virtually any game, old or new, I get brief small cutouts in game audio now and then, only briefly for less than a second. maybe every 5-10-20-40 minutes or so, it’s really at random, I wish I could fix this problem as the distro (kubuntu 25.04) works well for me, except for this issue. I have an rx 7800xt, Ryzen 7 7700 and an ASUS b650m plus WiFi.
I use a dac usb amplifier for my audio solution. It works perfectly for anything else on the system.
Does anyone else have this problem, it doesn’t matter which game or proton version, my audio will cutout regardless.
What logs would anyone suggest that I could post to get my problem fixed? I have no clue, I checked dmesg but nothing related to audio could be found.

How can I change the dpi of my gaming mouse on Linux?
I have a gaming mouse with a DPI of 4800, despite having a driver for configuration, because it is Linux, it does not work and I cannot change or configure the DPI beyond the basic settings of the operating system itself. I wanted to know if there is a generic configuration program or if it is possible to change it through a file. My mouse is a Fortrek M5.

looking for a particular open source game
there's a linux game that used to be installed as part of collection that came with some opengl graphical demos; it had sidescrolling bricks of different colours you click on them to remove adjacent bricks of the same colour, but i don't recall what it was called. anyone here able to remember what it was called?

Is it normal for Steam to have to "Process Vulkan Shaders" every time you download a game?
I'm not complaining, I just don't think I've ever seen this on Windows and was wondering if it's like that for every game on Steam or not?
