Linux for creators/streamers? Is it possible?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:49

Been doing a lot of research on Bazzite and as a gaming platform it seems great for steam exclusive gamers but from what I've understood epic games doesn't at all like Linux which is one reason I'm on the fence.

A bigger part of why is due to me using Adobe Products, certain windows exclusive/obscure apps, and streaming.

I saw a lot of discussion on PewDiePie and I'm impressed he's making the push but I personally imagine he has an editor making his videos on Windows or at the very least he has a streaming PC/editing PC he uses as well that runs a sperate operating system than Linux.

I have however been impressed with Bazzite as a gaming operating system and am heavily considering getting it for my mini PC's.

If anyone has solutions for the reasons I currently am not interested in switching on my main computer?

TLDR - uses epic games launcher and plays some epic games - has some non Linux obscure apps I need to work. Non negotiable. - uses Adobe products

If there are solutions and I can also still install Bazzite or something similar I'd be very interested in switching.

Linux Mint GPU/Vsync settings (bad screen tear)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:34

I am currently trying my best to get myself set up for gaming on Linux Mint with 4 monitors and an Nvidia RTX4090. the issue is the following: i experience pretty bad screen tear with every game so far regardless of vsync being turned off or on (0 difference). I also went down a deep rabbit hole with the driver setup. i tried so far: Reinstalling drivers, trying different driver versions, turning off Nvidia Optimus, turning off IGPU, manually setting refresh rate and vsync to the main monitor, disabling flipping for opengl as well as forcing composure pipelines... i think i am running out of options. the only thing i found thus far is, if i turn my resolution down, these weird flickering artifacts appear in addition to the screen tear (foto included with normal resolution). But i have no clue if that is a Proton problem, a driver problem, vsync or just the game. in addition fps seem fine and completely detached from the tearing problem.

I've created a video tutorial for anyone encountering issues with the BattleNet launcher on linux recently

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:00

Since Blizzard seems to have thrown a spanner in the works again for the BattleNet launcher on Linux by changing something, a lot of people have been getting errors and are unable to see their games or have their launcher crash. I made a quick tutorial here on how to get it fixed using either a new runner on Lutris or by using Proton 10 on steam.

CPU Limited Game Performance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 16:23

Hi everyone,

I posted yesterday regarding significant differences in FPS between a couple of games that I've been recently playing. I received great feedback on that post that helped guide additional troubleshooting steps and of course, that led to more questions.

To provide a specific example, I've been playing Guild Wars 2 and I noticed that there's a difference of approximately 30-50% in areas that stress the CPU. When comparing CPU usage between Windows and Linux, I noticed that the overall CPU utilization is down in Linux (GPU is not 100% because this is a CPU-limited game). In Windows, the top two threads that are being used by the game are pegged at approximately 80% whereas in Linux, the top two threads are pegged at just under 50%. What options are available to force the system to leverage the CPU more?

System: Linux Mint 22.1, Kernal 6.11, CPU 7800X3D, Nvidia 3060Ti (driver v570).

Help, with wine staging TKG and GSYNC, difference from other proton based runners

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 16:08

Hello everyone, can anyone help me understand, are there any steps missing or are the direct wine packages not built with something.

I play wow ,and Battle.net as you may have read on this sub, suffered some issue overnight making the usual runners crash it. Running on bottles with the included runner prior to this issue, I had GSYNC working with both wayland and x11 (with gsync visual indicator on as extra help).

Now, Gsync no longer works with Wine staging 10.6 TKG, and if this perhaps it is not a "mismatch" in software somewhere, can someone help me understand why it does not run with gsync anymore..

I have tested with other games, and is the same, on the other games I can roll back the runner and then gsync works.

Thank you.

You can get Frostpunk, PlateUp! and more fun games in the Tycoon Titans Bundle

Gaming on Linux - 01. Mai 2025 - 16:02
I wouldn't call Frostpunk a tycoon game but I'm not going to turn my nose up at a good deal. The Tycoon Titans Humble Bundle has some fun hits in it to grab.

Black bars when starting a game on Mint

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 15:47

New to Linux, so i feel a "little" bit overwhelmed using Mint and trying to do things. So always when starting a game, they start like this. I can fix this by going into the games settings and toggle fullscreen off and on, but that's not user friendly and there has to be a way to fix this happening every time starting a game. What do i have to do to fix it?

Some help for my windows brain is much appreciated!

[Baldur's Gate 3] Low fps, low cpu and gpu usage on Arch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 14:18

Hey all,

I've just started playing BG3 again and I've ran into an issue: I'm consistently getting low fps (~40-50) and low cpu and gpu usage (40-60%) inside Baldur's Gate (the city itself). This happens regardless of the preset I am using (same fps for low and ultra preset) and tbh now that I think about it, I think I've ran into the same issue while playing metro exodus. Generally it kinda feels as if I am using my system a bit "nerfed" in some games, not sure if it's a CPU bottleneck though.

My system consists of an intel 10700K and a 7800XT and 32gb of ddr4 ram. Some general info about drivers, kernel etc:

$ vulkaninfo | grep driver VK_LUNARG_direct_driver_loading : extension revision 1 driverVersion = 25.0.4 (104857604) driverUUID = 414d442d-4d45-5341-2d44-525600000000 driverID = DRIVER_ID_MESA_RADV driverName = radv driverInfo = Mesa 25.0.4-arch1.1 VK_KHR_driver_properties : extension revision 1 $ glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer" OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (radeonsi, navi32, LLVM 19.1.7, DRM 3.61, 6.14.1-arch1-1)

Kernel:

$ uname -r 6.14.1-arch1-1

Also I am running GNOME on Wayland.

Now one weird thing I've noticed is that while my cpu governor appears to be on performance, scaling_governor reports otherwise:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor powersave

I am now in the process of also adding cpupower as per arch docs but I am not sure if having both is wise.

As for BG3, I've tried both Vulkan and DX11 options (dx11 seems a bit worse), and gamemoderun.

Any help would be great, cheers!

EDIT: Typo

Bethesda modding tip

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 14:03

I haven't got everything working yet, but I was able to find the mod organizer 2 after having proton install it, use "sudo find /* -name ModOrganizer2.exe"

It'll show you the location its installed at and then you can add it to steam as a non-steam game to be run by proton.
