Arc Raiders on Epic Games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 21:27

I got accepted today into the Arc Raiders Technical Test, I am currently running Nobara 41 on a Ryzen 7 3700X and a 6700XT with 16gb of ram.

As per the latest technical test and as well the newest update on The Finals from Embark studios has caused some issues with Proton and steam.

I am wanting to know if there would be any sort of a chance in it running in a Lutris, Bottles or Heroic Launcher setting through Epic Games and provide a "solution" to be able to play the game since the steam version seems to be broken for now till a fix is released.

I ask this because I currently do not have windows installed on my device (was going to do it soon for other games, looks like maybe sooner for this one)

TL;DR

Does running a game through these other launchers provide a different experience for the game to potentially work, or if proton is broken does that mean its just windows is the only option for now.

Thanks

Are you a curtains closed dark room kinda gamer. Or a curtains open light room kinda gamer?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 21:15

Title. i wonder if people have them closed at all times like i do. i do not like the feeling of people watching me though the window, and the sun reflections on the screen. But most of the times i have a small lamp on. Otherwise my eyes turn red.

Which distro to go for?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 21:14

I've been thinking to switch over to linux for some time now and the main thing that's stopping me from jumpung in is the multitude of choices out there.

I know it's supposed to be a good thing but as a dude who's only experience with linux was for bioinformatics work in school I haven't really dabbled into gaming on linux.

According to what research I've done pop and nobara are the best two at the moment and I'm leaning more towards pop just because it's based on ubuntu (which I used in school).

So which one do you think I should choose as a purely windows gaming dude coming in new to the whole deal?

Also, how's online gaming on linux nowadays with the anti cheats and stuff? I know riot's games won't work but other than those, are there any "big name" games that also won't work even eith workarounds?

any ideas what could be wrong with the EA app?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 21:06

sometime when i was playing titanfall 2 yesterday the EA app crashed without giving an error message and now it will not launch any EA game via steam and it isnt giving any signs of activity, most times it starts to launch the EA app but then it hangs and then steam closes it, when i navigate to the install path for the ea app and run it via wine i get this:

https://preview.redd.it/lmpoy6l1y7ye1.png?width=799&format=png&auto=webp&s=17f1aa1c0a92dfc464d64b2140d207ffb185a2ba

and the app does not create a window.

when i try and run EADesktop.exe via proton:

https://preview.redd.it/41w6rg8mx7ye1.png?width=518&format=png&auto=webp&s=f62d68905be38944d1948facb4374471f6d1f2e2

i have clicked run update and it just opens a console window with EAUpdater.exe and says its up to date then closes 5 seconds later.

i tried launching titanfall 2 and the ea app under proton 7, 9, experimental, ge-proton9-26, same issues persist, i have not tried reinstalling titanfall 2 yet but at this point i dont think that will fix things

can i play games installed on my linux drive from my windows installation?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 20:39

hi. just installed windows onto a 480 gb ssd and i have a game installed on my 240 gb linux ssd. i was wondering if i could run the game on windows without having to reinstall it on the windows ssd. the game i want to run is persona 5 royal thru yuzu (nintendo switch emulator) and the reason i want to run it on windows when it runs just fine on linux is because i couldn't set my controller up on linux (i have a post from a few days ago about this, i still couldn't fix it after all the help. it is a very strange and obscure bug that causes my controller to not work on linux, but work fine on windows. i don't really want to bother to fix it so i just wanna play on windows instead, where the controller works) and i want to play p5r with a controller. thank u for ur help

Rocket League not launching with wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 20:35

I'm trying to play rocket league with proton on Linux Mint Cinnamon Wayland. Launching through Default Cinnamon works fine, except the game is locked at 60fps even though display is set to 165hz and from game settings it's set to 165hz.

From what I've understood, wayland is supposed to be better with high refresh rates. But i can't get the game to launch at all through Wayland. Steam shows it's running but nothing is happening.

I'm on newest 22.1 Linux Mint Cinnamon, Updated nvidia drivers today and the newest proton version 9.0-4.

2060 super, 5600x, 32gb ddr4

I'm pretty new to linux gaming so please tell me if i missed some info.

Battle.net broke recently?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 18:39

I've been using Battle.net with Lutris on Tumbleweed, since 1-2 days it is not properly loading, telling me the update agent is unavailable. Tried using Battle.net with Steam, same issue. I am somewhat confident it's not because of any updates I did. Has this been happening for anyone else or is it just a problem on my side?

Nvidia eGPU on Linux/Bazzite

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 18:30

Hey everyone,

I've seen a lot of articles and posts on this but nothing with a solid answer or tutorial information.
I have a RTX 4070 eGPU hooked up via thunderbolt USB to an ROG Ally X handheld and monitor, dual-booting windows and Bazzite. Moving to Nvidia-deck version of bazzite helped make my egpu recognizable but games ran horribly.

Has anyone been able to get an Nvidia eGPU working on Linux or Bazzite specifically? I know about the issues with Nvidia drivers on Linux- I believe it's possible to get games running but that performance is not up to par since drivers haven't been fully released yet.

Is this still just the state of Nvidia on Linux as of right now or has anyone made it work?

Linux for creators/streamers? Is it possible?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:49

Been doing a lot of research on Bazzite and as a gaming platform it seems great for steam exclusive gamers but from what I've understood epic games doesn't at all like Linux which is one reason I'm on the fence.

A bigger part of why is due to me using Adobe Products, certain windows exclusive/obscure apps, and streaming.

I saw a lot of discussion on PewDiePie and I'm impressed he's making the push but I personally imagine he has an editor making his videos on Windows or at the very least he has a streaming PC/editing PC he uses as well that runs a sperate operating system than Linux.

I have however been impressed with Bazzite as a gaming operating system and am heavily considering getting it for my mini PC's.

If anyone has solutions for the reasons I currently am not interested in switching on my main computer?

TLDR - uses epic games launcher and plays some epic games - has some non Linux obscure apps I need to work. Non negotiable. - uses Adobe products

If there are solutions and I can also still install Bazzite or something similar I'd be very interested in switching.

Linux Mint GPU/Vsync settings (bad screen tear)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:34

I am currently trying my best to get myself set up for gaming on Linux Mint with 4 monitors and an Nvidia RTX4090. the issue is the following: i experience pretty bad screen tear with every game so far regardless of vsync being turned off or on (0 difference). I also went down a deep rabbit hole with the driver setup. i tried so far: Reinstalling drivers, trying different driver versions, turning off Nvidia Optimus, turning off IGPU, manually setting refresh rate and vsync to the main monitor, disabling flipping for opengl as well as forcing composure pipelines... i think i am running out of options. the only thing i found thus far is, if i turn my resolution down, these weird flickering artifacts appear in addition to the screen tear (foto included with normal resolution). But i have no clue if that is a Proton problem, a driver problem, vsync or just the game. in addition fps seem fine and completely detached from the tearing problem.

I've created a video tutorial for anyone encountering issues with the BattleNet launcher on linux recently

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Mai 2025 - 17:00

Since Blizzard seems to have thrown a spanner in the works again for the BattleNet launcher on Linux by changing something, a lot of people have been getting errors and are unable to see their games or have their launcher crash. I made a quick tutorial here on how to get it fixed using either a new runner on Lutris or by using Proton 10 on steam.
