Does dynamic boost work on linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 13:10

I am on nvidia rtx 2070 and on ubuntu and have tried to start nvidia-powerd.service but it is not found and I can't find dynamic boost in nvidia settings. I can't find any file in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-driver-570-open/ too to copy into /etc/dbus-1/system.d/. I have dynamic boost in windows so does linux have it too?

Is HoYoPlay fixed yet?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 13:09

Hi guys, so I've been running into this problem where the hoyo launcher keeps crashing since the latest update (it looks like it's not just me, and not only a bottles problem) and since genshin is about to drop a major update next week I wonder if it would be fixed by then, if not are there any work around that you guys use, currently all I do is run the game's exe directly but this won't work after the update (cuz the game need to be updated from the launcher). This is what I'm running curently: json { "Runner": "ge-proton9-20", "DXVK": "dxvk-2.5.1", "VKD3D": "vkd3d-proton-2.13", "DXVK NVAPI": "dxvk-nvapi-v0.7.1", "LatencyFleX": "disabled", "Windows version": "Windows 11", "Bottles Runtime": false, "Steam Runtime": true }

Using Bottles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 12:55

I've been playing Eve Online through Steam and everything is fine. However, I would love to not have to log in through Steam, so I was looking at Bottles. I can't seem to get it set up properly though: I'm wondering how one determines which dependicies and settings are needed for games. Short of having a step by step guide for every game out there, how does one know the right settings/dependicies etc. for games?

Linux Bazzite HDMI 2.1 VRR on AMD GPU.. works?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 12:50

Hello, I am now fully on Linux Bazzite after few weeks of dualboot and I heard that VRR on my LG B4 OLED (through HDMI 2.1) is not gonna work on my AMD GPU, because of some HDMI/AMD shenanigans.

But today I just turned my PC and TV on and everything just.. works? TV says AMD FreeSync Premium is on, VRR works, even in games and I am using just optical HDMI 2.1. cable.

Is there something I am missing, or is this Bazzite doing?

Anyone who knows about it I would be very happy for more informations. Thanks!

Apreciation post for help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 12:19

Hi all,

Would like to thank you all for the great support. I asked for what distribution i should use and got mind blown with the amount of usefull replies. Although allot of people went in discusion about what distribution to use and told eachother i should use that one. i didn’t want the easiest solution but also not the most advanced one. I want to learn something and not think sudo is short for sudoku type of linux

One that came out quiet well was fedora KDE in the replies no backlash but also no holy grail type of linux.

So this weekend im getting rid of 🪟 and going 🐧

Gonna make an iso this weekend and install it. (Please dont make me regret it 🤣)

Blackfield, Mac and probably on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 12:10

early 9 months have passed since I last posted about the game I've been working on for almost two years. Countless ups and downs, technical issues, a full-time job, family, and more have stood in my way while pushing this project forward day and night. Well, I'm thrilled to share a significant update on this complex project (which started from a tiny seed). Enjoy watching, and I look forward to your feedback!

Question about the compatibility of GTA 5 on Linux.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 11:47

This may seem like a dumb question, but I have seen a lot about GTA 5 not being compatible with Linux and I was wondering if:

1: There is any way to run GTA in Linux using Wine or Proton or any other way.

2: And if that's not possible, would it work if I made a Windows VM using for example VirtualBox.

Why Wayland (Hyprland) sucks?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 11:07

I've got an AMD Ryzen 7 and an RTX 3060 Ti Lite Hash Rate, but on Hyprland, my FPS is a bit lower than average (along with some DE with Wayland). However, Cinnamon x11/Xorg is working just fine

I'm looking to get my Hyprland set up to work like Cinnamon. Any ideas on how to go about that?

System freezes when OOM

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 10:42

I'm using Arch with hyprland and I noticed that when swap fills up (it doesn't seem to empty it) system becomes unresponsive (I can't even switch to TTY) and the only way to fix it is to hold the shutdown button and manually shutdown the system (REISUB does nothing) (on KDE sometimes after 30 min OOM killer would step in). Is there a fix to this or should i get early oom killer? And if early OOM is the only way will there be some downsides?
