Proton isn't working for some reason

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 04:00

I just recently got into linux (Arch, for those curious) and one of the first things I tried to do was get steam working. I enabled the option for proton in settings and I installed GE-Proton.
However, when I load up certain games (Potion Craft, Marvel Rivals, ROTMG, Cookie Clicker), no version of proton seems to work. Other games (Viridi, Stardew, Terraria, Tmod) work just fine.
I've looked online, even on this subreddit, and I've seen people on arch have great success with games like Rivals with proton, but it's just refusing to work with me for whatever reason. Any help?
Edit: I also tried using Lutris. It worked fine for installing FFIX, but it started tweaking trying to install Rivals

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 03:48

Game runs awesome "OOTB" w/ a 4080 RTX in 4k & Ultra settings.

Really want to get this working w/ UEVR tomorrow. Anyone have any experience doing this yet - tips/tricks?

I need some more help, I've gotten a little further (check profile for context)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 03:48

I've used the installation media to open the terminal and do the things people were telling me to do but this is showing up, from what I know this is probably what's causing it (from my knowledge EFI is what it looks for to boot the operating system, probably wrong though.) how can I fix this?

Any Wayland Debian-based KDE Distro for Nvidia?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 02:47

Currently using Bazzite and it works great, but I'm disliking not having access to DNF. I believe I can use Nobara for that, but I much prefer the apt package manager. Mint is super stable, but X11 absolutely hates multi-monitor setups with the main having a higher refresh rate, I tried everything to fix it on X11, does not work.

I tried KDE Neon, fixed refresh rate issues, but resizing windows was extremely buggy, Spotify would flash, etc. not stable at all.

If I must, I'd be fine with Nobara, assuming it performs the same as Bazzite.

Keeping progress after going Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 02:42

I had some cracked games on Windows. Is there a way to play those games with the progress I had. I tried using Lutris, the game launched just fine but I lost the progress I had.

I know this was fast but I'm having issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 02:01

I switched my PC off which I just installed mint in and it doesn't recognise any valid boot devices, so I can't access Linux. I've already put all my files on it and I have no idea how to get my computer to recognise a boot device

Is upgrading from 1070 to Radeon RX 7600XT 16gb worth it?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 02:01

Hi guys, I have a ryzen 5 5600x, cx650f rgb bronze psu, 16gb of ram and a 1070. I was thinking of switching the GPU first, as I've been trying to get a better gpu for ages, but when I made my pc the GPU prices were absolutely insane. Anyone have recommendations for my budget (200-400 euros) at my psu level? I was thinking of the RX 7600 XT GAMING OC 16G for 360 euros. Or should I go for something else? Let me know! I'm in for everything

Steam Proton suddenly refuses to work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 01:30

Yesterday everything was working fine but today all my non-steam games refuse to work properly and some don't work at all. I'm using Ubuntu 24 and Proton Hotfix (same result with beta 10, 9, Experimental)

This happens when i try to launch a game

It seems to fail at "id 8605 != 8604, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)" then the error window pops up (Image 1). The game works with regular wine: wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3)

Apps like game launchers seem to work but their windows are styled weirdly (Image 2). The borders are supposed to be black and they are displayed correctly when launched with regular Wine (Image 3)

Tried the solution here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1kcvfwu/half_my_steam_games_dont_work_anymore/ and it didn't work

Any help would be appreciated

JoyCons on Debian

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Mai 2025 - 00:44

I want to connect both of my joycons to Debian. I've done a preliminary google search and I see there are several options. Before I delve into those options, I'd like to know the opinion of this community as to which method you prefer and why.

OS: Debian 12

Rocket League froze while alt tabbed, now won't launch at all anymore

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 23:12

Hi so I recently installed Linux Mint to replace Windows 11, at first I skipped the secure boot configuration so Mint wasn't switching from CPU to GPU drivers for games, I managed to fix that and the game was working flawlessly at max FPS and settings, while recording with OBS, then suddenly, I was alt tabbed checking out my Firefox browser for a little bit and when I tried to get back into RL the game was frozen, I couldn't close the window, I tried to reboot but that didn't help. Now the game get stuck on "launching" in Steam and does absolutely nothing, not even start the executable. I also tried switching from Proton 9.0-4 to GE-Proton9-27 which didn't affect the problem at all. I'm wondering if it has to do with shaders because it was building shaders before every time after reboot and now it doesn't even start that task. In the meantime I was able to play CS2 without 1 issue at all, but RL still won't start anymore.

Age Of Empires II Definitive Edition local LAN server

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2025 - 23:07

Hi, does anyone here have experience running AOE II: DE LAN server? I wanted to try it out and play with some friends, but seems like the server won't ever start for me, I'm stuck on the loader to create it.

I've tried to run steam via terminal to see if it produces some errors in the output, but it didn't seem to print anything.
