I think there might be an issue with Steam on Linux right now
Using opensuse, the newest update tried to uninstall steam calling it out of date and a dependency was no longer being met.
If I ignore the dependency Steam runs fine, but other systems may not work that way.
Dependency seems to be: libtheora0-32 that it "requires".
Seeing a bunch of people posting here about steam not working and people asking about pc specs and running from terminal but it may actually be a bigger issue than that.

For some reason steam won't open on any distro I have tried.
I tried mint, ubuntu, and kubuntu. It keeps trying to open.

Steam on Kubuntu will hang using 100% CPU, keeping new applications from launching, and requiring a hard reset.
When using the native version of Steam, it will suddenly experience some sort of crash. This might be while downloading something or just selecting something in a menu. Steam will become unresponsive with some UI elements still reacting to mouseover, but clicking on things does nothing. The rest of my desktop works, but only things that were open before the crash. New applications won't start including terminal windows. I usually have a terminal window already running anyway and running htop shows a number of steam processes some of them in either Z or D state. One of them in R state will be using 100% CPU. I've tried every process killing method I could find and nothing other than a hard reset works.
I did my best to wipe my steam install and switched to the flatpak version but after setting the overrides to point to the other drives I have Steam libraries on (like the C drive for my windows install) Steam would just get confused and put new empty steam libraries in those folders and not look at the right ones. I tinkered with it a bit just putting my entire media folder with all drives as an override (maybe stupid idk) and shortly after I got the same unkillable crash.
I wiped the flatpak install and I'm back on the native version and still getting the crash.

Any cool Linux idle games to play while you work?
I found idle games a really ncie small distraction from work, where I can click a couple buttons while stuff compiles and it just plays itself.
Anyhting cool I can play on Linux to occupy my mind for a couple seconds every now and then? Bonus points if it's FOSS!

Metro 2033 Redux Black screen
I'm using KDE on Pop!_OS with an Nvidia GPU and trying to run Metro 2033 Redux through Steam. When I launch the game, I only get a black screen, although the audio works fine.
Proton is enabled, and I've tried several different versions, but none have worked. My GPU drivers are installed and up to date. I'd really appreciate any help or suggestions.

Importing Deltarune Demo save data into the full version on Linux and Steam Deck
The issue: You only use Linux and you open the Deltarune full release on Linux or Steam Deck and you aren't prompted to import your save data from the demo.
To import save data on Linux, your must do it manually.Open your file manager (Dolphin) and go to your Deltarune Demo install's compat data: (/home/USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1690940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/DELTARUNE/) via the file manager (dolphin) and copy the folder contents.
Then, you go to your full Deltarune install's compat data: (/home/vayguh/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1671210/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/DELTARUNE/) and paste the contents of the filepath from the demo version, overwriting any files prompted.
If you're playing between a Linux PC and Steam Deck, Steam Cloud will transfer your save automatically upon opening the game for the first time on your Linux PC. Thanks Toby for using Steam Cloud! If your save data is located on your steam deck, go to desktop mode by pressing the Steam Button -> Power -> Switch to desktop mode and perform the same stepsI highly recommend backing up your data while you do this by making a secondary copy of the Demo's save data somewhere on your computer, as I have not yet played the full game to its entirety and I do not know if there will be any consequences for doing this method of save transfer. So far, I was able to start from my Chapter 1 save without issue. I was prompted "do you want to continue from Chapter 1?" when opening the game on my deck.
Other than that, this game runs flawlessly out of the box on deck and Linux using Steam Proton!

weird freezes on the native discord client
So I've ran into a weird issue on a fresh install of EndeavourOS where discord freezes up after an arbitrary amount of time.
It's not a full on crash though, sound still works, streams still play, but i cannot interact with the window whatsoever (buttons also don't get highlighted when hovered over) Trying to move the window or trying to close the application entirely result in the standard application hang popup, after which the client terminates and can be restarted normally.
Googling only left me with results related to hard crashes and problems with hardware acceleration. Trying any of the listed changes did nothing whatsoever.
I'm hoping anybody has seen something like this before and might be able to provide some insights.
System Config is a 5950X, 7900XTX, 64GB RAM, latest OS Version and packages, latest version of discord.

Thinking about switching over to Linux.
Currently running Windows. Have RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 9700X. I like what Linux represents (freedom, customization, minimal bloat etc) but I'm interested in gaming primarily, and I've heard conflicting reports about gaming performance on Linux. On one hand I've heard that Linux running a Windows game through proton can run better than the game running natively on Windows. On the other hand, I've heard that NVIDIA's Linux drivers aren't great and that I'd end up losing a lot of performance by switching to Linux. Wondering what peoples experiences have been like, particularly with NVIDIA GPUs I guess.

OpenMandriva for gaming and daily driving?
My first post here and I'd like to ask if OpenMandriva is good for daily driving and gaming(I am still a beginner), and currently using Aurora by UB but it's been causing me issues. I do my college work and lightweight gaming on the side like Mass Effect or F1 2010. I haven't tried it out yet and if you do recommend it, could anyone tell me if I should choose Rock or Rome version of OpenMandriva?

CS2 Crashing PC Every Hour
Hi! Currently I am using Kubuntu with a RX 7700XT as my primary GPU. For some reason every hour or so while playing CS2 underneath Linux my entire computer will suddenly freeze and crash. This is the only game that this occurs in and I know it's at the minimum not a physical hardware issue (Overheating, etc...). I believe all of my drivers are updated to the latest version. I am running it native with no pre-shader caching if that has something to do with it. It's just weird because this is the only game that this issue occurs in and its very sporadic and requires a complete restart of my PC.

Tried Linux gaming today, felt severely disappointed
I wanted to get into playing Windows games on Linux. I already did prefer Windows 10 to Windows 11 (hence why I installed it even though my laptop came pre installed with Windows 11), and I am not too afraid of Windows 10’s End of Support. However, when I heard that people on Linux were getting even more FPS than on Windows, I thought I would give it a shot.
I set up Pop OS, installed Steam and Proton Experimental, installed Lutris, used it to run Cyberpunk2077.
Around 40 FPS. Nice.
Then I tried running the benchmark on Windows 10. I got 48 FPS.
Felt bad because I put in a lot of work to make sure my Pop OS install worked well, and that Cyberpunk would run.
Maybe my settings are not the same between the two? I’m not sure, but I did try to make them similar.

Talos Principle Reawakened Shadow Artifacts
Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction to understand and hopefully resolve this issue with Talos Principle Reawakened.
The game has these shadow artifacts as you move around the game. The shadows look all chopped up and change its shapes as you move around. The character shadow renders correctly but most of the tree and building shadows don't match what you would expect and distort more as you move around.
I have a 9070 XT and 7800 X3D. I've tested on Fedora and Arch linux. Drivers up to date.
I tried different video settings, going from ultra to low presets, trying Raytracing on and off, FSR on and off, Fullscreen, windowed, vsync and so on.
No other game I've run has shown any similar artifacts, including Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and 2, Spiderman Remastered, Baldur's Gate 3 and a number of older games.
Is this likely due to the AMD drivers not being mature for the 9070 XT? Has anyone seen similar issues with this game or other Unreal Engine 5 games? Thanks.
