Questions about PRIME
Yesterday, I was a bit bored and curious, wanting to try using the iGPU in my Ryzen 7700X. I was surprised to find that it was playing so many games in 4K @ 60FPS. In fact, it was too good - I realized that despite my display being plugged into the motherboard, it was apparent that my discrete Radeon 7700XT was doing all the heavy lifting.
All this was news to me - I've been aware of Bumblebee and PRIME for many years but not only did I not think it was possible to run those on desktop parts (I thought it required a muxing chip found only on laptops) but I did absolutely nothing to configure it. I tried looking more into it and I'm surprised how little information there is out there outside of forum posts or the Arch Wiki (at least I had a hard time finding anything), so I just had a few questions if anyone knew the answers:
- How exactly does PRIME work without a muxer or VirtualGL? I assume the dGPU renders the scene and just dumps the framebuffer over the PCIe bus to the iGPU.
- If I'm right about this, how much PCIe bandwidth does this require? Like let's say I'm rendering 4K @ 120FPS, what would that look like? I guess part of why I'm wondering this is let's say I'm out of VRAM for the dGPU and it has to start dipping into system memory: would PRIME saturate enough bandwidth to compromise performance in this situation?
- I know when it comes to something like glxgears, you're better off rendering "locally" since transferring the framebuffer would be slower than rendering on a crappy iGPU, but for any real graphical workloads, is there any significant performance loss when using PRIME? I haven't really found any benchmarks about it.
- Would it be possible for the iGPU to use FSR instead of the dGPU? I'm sure it wouldn't be a big performance uplift but if it's the difference between dipping below 60FPS and staying above it, that could be worthwhile.
- I noticed this odd behavior, that perhaps isn't related to PRIME but I don't know for sure. If I play a 1080p 30FPS video in MPV, the iGPU seems to be the only one doing the work. This is fine; I'd rather it be that way. What gets weird is if I play a 4K 60FPS video in MPV, where both the iGPU and dGPU are showing load. The iGPU is 100% maxed out while the dGPU ranges from 10-30%. What exactly is going on here? I'm not aware of any codecs that can split load across multiple GPUs, and I'm not aware of PRIME being able to do that either. I don't understand what's happening here.

Boot Drive not registering
Okay, so I've been hearing how easy Bazzite is to install but whenever I go to change to USB boot it doesn't show up in the F12 menu.
I used Rufus for the ISO writer but nothing shows up and I can't format my main boot drive...

HUE Sync Alternative
I recently switched to Bazzite as I prefer Linux over Windows however the only thing I am missing is hue sync to sync my ambilights with the content on screen. I have so far given a few options a try but got nothing to work. I think it is a bit harder with the fedora atomic system or whatever its called.
If anyone can point me in the right direction here that would be super helpful as I am close to giving up. Thanks!

Wine 10 from system running games better than proton-ge-lastest or wine-ge-latest from Heroic.
guys, after I have updated my debian from 12 to 13, the wine from system is running much better games (like songs of conquest and disco elysium) than proton-ge or wine-ge from heroic games. A simple "$ wine game.exe", without extra configuration do the job better than heroic. Any thoughts why?
extra info of my pc:
8gb ram
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz

Green screen of death
Hey guys, I use EndeavourOS and got a Ryzen 7600 + 6600XT.
When gaming (tried with Portproton and Lutris and same problem) I usually get the green screen + reboot. Sometimes it happens after 10-15mins and sometimes after like 2hs. It's random, but I always get the green screen and it's really frustrating. How could I try to diagnose the problem? I'm a Linux noob btw. Thanks!!!

Distro recommendation for new Linux user
Hello, good morning, afternoon or evening, I am a normal Windows user but for some time I have wanted to switch to Linux, I have had many problems with Windows and Linux has caught my attention, I already have the Ubuntu version installed but I have seen that it is not so special for me. I have only installed Spotify, brave and made some adjustments. If it helps, I am studying systems engineering so I have a bit of knowledge of the OS, I need you to recommend a distro that suits me, if it is of any use, I want it for programming languages, daily use such as listening to music, watching videos, using streaming applications, editing the wallpaper and also what I mostly do with my laptop is play epic games, steam, the xbox app and ea. I also use programs like visual studio and so on, I know that the epic games store is not native on Linux but I understand that it can be emulated or something like that, what distro do you recommend? I would greatly appreciate your support and I will be reading them.
PS: As a last question, can my external controller software be installed? For example, my keyboard is from the terport brand, my control is wired from the powerA brand and my mouse is from the primus brand and I have a question if their software can be installed?

EA app broken on CachyOS
I'm seeing that the EA app is not working for battlefront 2 (2017). I would like to play it. I'm dual booting Windows on a different SSD right now and can play on that but I would rather use Linux if I can. Does anyone have a work around?
I'm seeing a lot of people labeling it as borked on proton db but I figured more people could see this here.
Thanks in advance!

Some games can't launch in full screen.
It's not many, but some games like Tekken 7, Helldivers 1, and Yu-Gi-oh Master Dual don't launch in full screen when I launch them. Going into the settings and changing from windowed to full screen solves the problem, but I have to do this every time I launch the game.
And it seems to be an inconsistent issue, because I managed to solve this problem in Yu-Gi-oh Master Dual by switching from Wayland to X11, but after that, I switched back to Wayland, and the error didn't recur. However, this didn't work in Tekken 7. Any ideas?
Additional information: - I use OpenSUSE Tumbleweed - The CPU and GPU are AMD

Sims 4 frequently crashing during gameplay (Steam) [SOLVED]
I had the frustrating issue of the game constantly crashing whenever I dared to leave my lot and also randomly in between because why not. Getting into a hottub? Crash. Going to a park? Crash. Mixing a drink? Crash. This is on Steam via proton.
Sims crashlogs are obfuscated because how dare you solve your own problem so that was a dead end and don't get me started on the lack of a sane auto-save system.
I googled a lot, couldn't find much info about it on Linux (most crashes I found online were on startup not during play), googled some more and stumbled across a lone thread advising DX9, so to save the next idiot some time. This is the solution:
force DX9, you can change it via config file or ingame
Also don't give EA money but yk. Too late for me.
