I am using fedora KDE plasma, and i am running genshin impact using Heroic. I've done their advice where you must close and open internet upon starting game, if login is blank make just alt tab. But when I get in I'm always displayed with this notice. Any fixes for this?

Using Proton leaves single Pixel in top left corner stuck until game is closed.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 8:47am

Whenever I use Proton 10.0-1 Beta for playing a game on Linux Mint, whatever color the pixel at the top left corner of the screen will be stuck that same color until the game using Proton is closed. I've tried this with three different games and they all experience this same issue.

If I have something bright like the top of my web browser, then the pixel is stuck bright. If I have something dark like my desktop background, then it's stuck dark. If I open KolourPaint and fill the Canvas red and drag that to the top left corner of the screen, then it's stuck red.

I've tried swapping Proton versions to Experimental and Hotfix, but now the games fail to start. On 9.0-1, the pixel issue doesn't come up, but the games throw a fit when trying to alt-tab to see something else.

Any thoughts/tips?

How does the steam compatibility tool work?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 7:54am

I know that for a lot of games I have to use Proton. So in my steam compatibility setting, I have it set to use Proton Experimental as the default compatibility tool.

I assumed that was all I needed to do, so I downloaded and launched The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth to try it out and it just refused to open when I click play. It only works if I go into the properties of the game, go to compatibility, then click force specific compatibility tool and then select Proton Experimental. Only then will the game launch.

So my question is, what is the point of me having Proton Experimental set in steam's compatibility menu when I still have to go into the game's properties and select the same one anyway? What exactly is steam's option doing if not running all games in that selected proton version until I tell it otherwise in the game's properties?

Discord screen share question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 7:06am

I've been using been using Bazzite for 4 months, but due to Davinci issues, had to go back to Windows a while ago. Now that my primary reason to use Resolve sorted itself out, I'm thinking about going back. But one thing is holding me back, and that's hit or miss screen share experience on Discord. When I used Vesktop, it would often bug out. I tested the OG flatpak's Wayland share with sound on a VM, and it seems to work, but people in other threads have been saying that the lack of GPU acceleration inevitably results in lag and bad quality. To people who have used the screen share on vanilla Discord - did people in call with you ever complain about lag and poor quality?

EA launcher doesn’t work with Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 6:42am

I’ve been trying to play the sims 4 again on debian 12 like I used to about two years ago, but Origin switched to that stupid EA launcher, and it seems to be the reason I can’t get the game to run. Nothing I’ve found on ProtonDB has worked, and I think I’ve read all the comments since the launcher changed. That includes trying tons of Proton versions, Proton-GE, and all sorts of launch options.

I guess enough time has passed that there should be some fix for the headache that the EA launcher on Linux has become. I’d really appreciate any info or tips anyone might have :’)

Did this game recently get a patch for easy anti cheat or something? Online wasn't supported on this game in linux before.

edit: seems to most likely be a scripted event unfortunately

Lux games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 5:21am

Hi everyone! I've been on the search for some games from my childhood that have felt like a fever dream but I SWEAR I played them. I don't have pictures sadly, but all I can remember is little me sitting in front of my mom's computer and playing a variety of Linux games, the one I remember (slightly) more is one of Lux sliding through the snow, it was some kind of race I believe. Please if someone has any clue of what I'm talking about I'd highly appreciate it, I swear I've been on the hunt for these games since like forever!

I used to think I am competent (laptop with nvidia graphics, not launching lutris games and steam stuttering)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 2:52am

System Background

I am running fedora 42 on a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ITH6 which means i7-11800H and a nvidia 3050 laptop gpu. I installed the nvidia linux drivers using rpm-fusion.

My laptop has integrated and dedicated graphics. I would like to use integrated for everything except gaming (battery life reasons). I think my hdmi port is wired only to the dedicated graphics. I play on a separate monitor.

Problem

Assume I am an idiot. I downloaded lutris, then linked my epic games account. When I try to launch the epic games launcher (to claim free games) or launch celeste, it says running for a few seconds before showing nothing is running. Here is the wine console log for celeste

lutris-wrapper: Celeste Started initial process 18416 from gamemoderun /home/<user>/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/wine-ge-8-26-x86_64/bin/wine /home/<user>/Games/epic-games-store/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Epic Games/Launcher/Portal/Binaries/Win32/EpicGamesLauncher.exe -opengl -SkipBuildPatchPrereq -com.epicgames.launcher://apps/Salt?action=launch Start monitoring process. gamemodeauto: Monitored process exited. Initial process has exited (return code: 0) All processes have quit Exit with return code 0

Can anyone tell me why lutris isnt launching games?

Secondly, I have installed steam and downloaded hollow knight. When on my integrated display, the game says over 200 fps (which is expected), but the game doesnt feel as smooth as on windows. It feels like there is something wrong. The audio also sounds a bit different (using same bluetooth headphones). When the game runs on my separate monitor (intended way to play), it is stuttering so bad I cannot even enter my save file. I tried adding __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only to the steam game settings, but it made no difference for either issue.

I am not sure about the lutris issue, but I am sure the steam one is due to the nvidia drivers. On both screens I ran nvidia-smi and say that hollow knight was showing up in the list of running processes. All software mentioned was installed using dnf on command line.

I used to think I was competent (lutris not launching games, steam stuttering, on laptop and trying to use dedicated nvidia graphics)

I recently switched my laptop to fedora 42. I have a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ITH6 which means i7-11800H and rtx 3050 mobile gpu.

Project Bluefin & Bazzite are the best initial Linux experience I have ever had with Linux in 20+ years.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 2:23am

Note: Speaking about the GNOME versions.

I switched my main PC from Windows 11 to Project Bluefin then to Bazzite as I was testing both. If you don't want the most up to date gaming version then I can't recommend Bluefin enough. All the settings make sense the initial packages are great. Bazzite is a great gaming distro but I tweaked it to make the initial settings more like Bluefin.

The Bazaar store looks really nice and the curated apps are great. I don't know what else to say really. I think I am a universal blue convert. This is coming from a Windows native person for the past I don't know how long. I have used Linux here and there for 20+ years so it's not new to me and I have managed Linux and Unix servers for past work. But something always made me drop Linux. My last favorite distro was OpenSUSE but no longer.

Time to get WEMOD working. I got it working on Bluefin yesterday, it was a pain. Also was able to get a Podman Desktop container for ComfyUI working for my Intel Arc A770 also surprisingly not trivial to do because they all expect NVIDIA by default. I am used to Docker but Podman Desktop is so nice to use.

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GOING LINUX DO IT! Just buy 1 month of Claude AI or ChatrGPT or whatever AI you like usually they are $20 a month. And it's like having a Linux expert next to you. Ask it questions and use it to learn.

Star Wars Battlefront II window doesn't open

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 12:08am

I'm using the Steam Flatpak. Filesystem is btrfs, same filesystem as the OS. I always let the vulkan shader compilation finish.

I've tried dozens of combinations even Proton GE but no matter what I do the game window never opens. Tried X11 and Wayland. Tried Wine's virtual desktop.

The EA apps works and it shows a process "starwarsbattlef" but the game window is not visible.

Any tips?

Lossless scaling is amazing (re: Cyberpunk 2077 - FSR Frame Gen broken)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 12:03am

I've been seeing posts for the adaption of lossless scaling for the last few weeks but didn't really understand the hype in the enthusiastic posts I saw. Two days ago I went back to Cyberpunk 2077 since it got the FSR4 and FSR Frame Gen 3.1 update, to see how ray-tracing would run on my 7900xtx.

Well, frame gen seems to be completely broken for this game. It actually had a huge negative stuttery impact, with no frames generated. So, I decided I'd finally go check the status of lossless scaling (https://github.com/PancakeTAS/lsfg-vk).

Yesterday the project released a new pre-release version, and it now includes easier-to-install binaries, and a GUI to set up variables that can be called by steam to enable profiles.

Once enabled... it's honestly a game-changer. Went from 50-60fps to around 130-140fps with unnoticeable input lag (talking like 1.5ms on my pc, using 3x lossless settings), with everything maxed out and RT on ultra. Amazing clarity and buttery smooth on my ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor.

I've worked on computers for a long time (20+ years), as a builder, C++/C# programmer, DBA... and it's one of those rare times I feel like a piece of software is magic. Feel like I just downloaded some RAM for real.

I'm know others have felt this way about "fake frames" before me - but as a long-time AMD and Linux user, it's awesome to experience what this piece of software does. Props to the original creator(s), and the team porting this to Linux. It's a game changer and I encourage folks to buy the software and try this out on your more demanding games.

AMD Adrenaline on Linux Mint or Ubuntu?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Jul 2025 - 11:26pm

I'm a noob looking to switch over to Linux.

I've heard AMD's Adrenaline software is simply not available on Linux, which I find very troublesome, because I've come to like it a lot and have been wanting to finally move over from windows to either Ubuntu or Mint.

Is that really the case? There is a download for Ubuntu at least on AMD's page, does it not work as it does on Windows?

I worry because, besides overclocking and fan control, how about features like frame-gen, driver-level upscaling or down scaling, would I lose access to those on Linux?
