Trying to play Warhammer: Dark Omen from GOG

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 7:14pm

Hello!

Yesterday this retro game was launched. I used to play it a lot when I was a kid, but I can't make it work on linux. This is what I have tried so far:

I did the installation of the game through Lutris, and I've tried all the proton versions I can think of, Proton-GE, Experimental, wine-ge, you name it. I have also tried activating dgvoodoo2 in various versions as I've read that the one that comes by default with Lutris is not working properly. This far the game launches and plays sound, but video output is completely absent, showing only a black screen.

I'm a bit lost with this at the moment. Normally what happens with proton and old games is that they just work, but I can't make this work by any means.

Linux on gigabyte A16 Pro?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 7:01pm

Hello there! I'm looking at wirecutters review for the gigabyte gaming laptop, A16 Pro. Specifically, I use Linux all the time, and would prefer this over windows 11, but I don't know if this gaming laptop is supported well. Are there other suggestions for a Linux gaming laptop? I would love to run local LLM, and have a laptop that would be a joy to use regularly. I would prefer hardware similarly to what I can find on the gigabyte A16 with a fast GPU and memory.

Mouse not being captured when using proton wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 6:59pm

Hey, so earlier I was playing the PRAGMATA demo using ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 so that I could play in HDR, but it caused my mouse to no longer being captured by the game, meaning that trying to aim right would actually move my cursor to my 2nd screen (which is on the right).

This obviously makes games completely unplayable with KB+M. Surely this can't just be how it is, so I must be doing something wrong. Could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

I should mention, I'm using EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma and an Nvidia 4070Ti Super with the latest drivers (580.105.08)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 6:47pm

I heard Hogwarts Legacy (steam) pretty much runs perfectly on linux using proton, but what about Epic Games? The game is currently free on Epic Games, and was wondering how the preformance was before I consinder installing Heroic Launcher.

Running Subnautica without wine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 5:20pm

Hi, hi! So, my PC uses Linux, and I've been interested in downloading and playing Subnautica. Knowing how Linux works though, I've realised it may be a challenge. I'm new to the whole Linux thing but I know that wine can be a little iffy sometimes. So, is there anyone who plays Subnautica on their Linux device that could lmk how they did it?

Also, I don't currently have my PC with me as I'm on holiday, so I might not be able to answer some questions. And I kinda sorta don't know much about my device as I'm new to having a PC and not running Windows, and my dad has mostly guided me through everything so far. 😅

DSX substitute

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 5:18pm

just switched to linux (fedora) and in windows i had a profile setup on DSX with a ton of shortcuts for me to control my pc from bed. for example, i pressed select + start to change from my ps4 profile to my tv profile, the entire controller would have new mappings for me to use and i could switch back if i opened a game or something. i tried input-remapper but its rather clunky and i cant start and stop it at will with a shortcut afaik.

i know this is probably a long shot for this specific use case but i thought it’d be worth it to give it a try

8bitdo Ultimate 2 issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 4:05pm

So yesterday I had an issue with my 8bitdo ultimate 2 and messed with drivers to maybe fix it. For some reason it gets detected as two different controllers connected at the same time. The first issue got fixed with a kernel update but now it still shows 2 controllers. If I go to a gamepad tester and connect it, it shows 8bitdo ultimate 2 and it shows a second controller called Microsoft xbox 360 controller. I have no other controller connected to my PC. The issue only appears on xinput but dinput resets every time I shut down my PC and the controller gets disconnected.

30 days of linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 3:52pm

So I boldly challenged to 30 days of linux only on our main pcs. I plan to install bazzite since it seems to be the most popular gaming focused OS right now, but I have very limited linix experience. I stopped using Ubuntu because gnome would crash constantly and it became kinda unusable and I didn't feel like fixing it. Any advice on distro choice and set up would be super helpful!

Edit for specs if its relevant for drivers at all i9 14900kf, 4080 super, 32gb RAM, 1tb will be allocated for linux for now

How complicated is it to switch from an Nvidia GPU with proprietary driver to an AMD GPU using mesa?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 3:50pm

Going to and early next year. Wanna make sure I know what I gotta do when I do. Any chance it's as simple as making sure the latest kernel and mesa my distro can use is installed and just plopping the amd card in?

Hogwarts Legacy Crashes on Startup

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 2:33pm

Hi! I got Hogwarts Legacy today (Heroic Games Launcher) and the game refuses to open! I get a black screen for minutes, until I get an error: "app stopped working". I've already tried the proton db recommended launch settings:

DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA" PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% -dx12 -nosplash -nolauncher

but it didn't work. Tried switching the proton version from 10.25GE to 9.0.4 and nothing changed.

My specs:

Linux Mint 22.2

Ryzen 3 3200G

GTX 1080 TI

Proton 10.25GE

Nvidia Driver 570

Stem Flatpak symlink /home/user/Pictures

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Dec 2025 - 1:47pm

Hey, so I just found something, that seems kinda weird.

Im using Debian and have symlinked my /home/user/Picures to another folder for syncing purposes.

When trying to open steam flatpak i get thi error:

bwrap: Can't make symlink at /home/max/Pictures: destination exists and is not a symlink

When I delete my symlink it start to work again.

Has anyone experienced this? It feels pretty weird.

I know i should propably use the native steam version but I wanted to try the flatpak version to see how it works :)

So if noone knows how to fix this ill just install the native version.
