Is there a way to search for 'untested' games on ProtonDB?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 11:53am

Pretty much, I have a bunch of free time to play games and I might as well use some of it to make ProtonDB reports, but specifically for untested games as the majority of the games I have are native or run well with plenty of reports

Should I set PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 globally?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 11:29am

Has anyone else done this? Does it break anything? I've been setting it on a per game basis up until now using the steam launch arguments but I gather it can be set globally with environment variables. I can envision me maybe trying to launch a game and it not working and totally forgetting I set that environment variable and it being the cause. Or is that a non issue and im worried about nothing?

Will new steam hardware mean better steam wayland support?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 8:12am

Bit of a speculation post, but considering the recent push with forking waydroid, I think it's worth bringing up that at the moment valve's steam client features are mostly non-functional on native wayland games or a Wayland session. Currently, the main missing features/bugs in steam seem to be:

  • Native wayland or wine wayland games don't run with steam overlay OR steam input
  • Wayland windows in gamescope crash frequently or otherwise don't work properly
  • Steam virtual keyboard doesn't work in a wayland desktop session
  • Native steam client runs in xwayland exclusively

Considering that x11 session for KDE Plasma EOL is coming around soon (x11 is starting to get more unreliable with app support), do you think valve will continue supporting an out of date plasma version even on a more desktop-focused system like steam machine, or will we see a big wayland push for steam in the next couple months?

Steam stuck in validating/downloading/patching loop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 8:00am

Hi All

Looking for some help with an issue with Steam on Linux.

I moved over to CachyOS (from Windows 11) about 1 month ago and I've been enjoying it for the most part. Yesterday, I decided to fire up Helldivers 2 (which has been working fine with Proton on Steam prior to this issue) and noticed that there was a 15.4GB patch. Figured it would take 15/20 minutes to complete so I just left it. Came back to it about 30 minutes later and found that instead of downloading and patching, it was now validating files. Once the validation completed, it proceeded to attempt to re-download the 15.4GB patch again. I thought maybe there were corrupted game files or something so I just let it do it's thing but this continued on for over an hour (download, patch, validate, repeat).

Did a bunch of Googling and found a few threads listing the same issue advising that I'd need to go to the content_log.txt file (in the Steam folder), delete a bunch of corrupted game files (listed in said .txt file) and then restart the update. I did this but the update/patch/validate loop just kept occurring.

I have subsequently tried repairing the library, deleting all corrupted and downloaded files and rebooting but nothing has helped. I'm tempted to just format this drive and reinstall Cachy (as there are a bunch of packages and configs that I feel I could do without) but I'd rather be able to at least play games again (in this instance) instead of going through the trouble of a full reinstall.

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kingdom Hearts I + II will not play in Fullscreen, esc key not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 7:24am

I'm not super experienced with Linux so I'm going to list random specs if by chance they may help aid the problem:

  • Os: Arch Linux
  • Kernel: Latest Zen Kernel available for arch
  • gpu drivers: non-open nvidia
  • DE: Plasma (with Wayland)
  • Proton: GE-Proton10-25

Hardware: * CPU: Amd Ryzen 5 3700x * GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050

The problem: When then game starts up, the escape key works on the initial game select menu, but when I select a game to play, the escape key no longer works. The game seems to load these games as separate programs. I'm also having issues running the game in Fullscreen, as the plasma bar still appears.

Sim wheel on linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 7:04am

From what I've gathered, sim racing on linux is pretty much not a thing. I was wondering if anyone on here has successfully gotten force feedback and a wheel and pedals and shifter to work on linux? I use kubuntu but I have a windows partition specifically for assetto corsa, and I was looking at getting the new assetto corsa rally game, but I'm honestly tired of dealing with windows.

Gnome vs Plasma with Nvidia?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 5:35am

So far with fedora-KDE, i face plasma crashing multiple times a day, and plex even, as well as vscode just breaks and unable to play nice with nvidia at all.

Is this more a fedora issue?, plasma issue? Or KDE itself? Or even the current linux kernel that broke stability completely?

FYI: OpenRGB can now control MSI X870E Carbon Wifi

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 5:30am

only things that do not work are the logo of the dragon and text on the mobo itselfes. also some settings do not seem to work.... but this can be a me issue due giving it incorrect led count. i can at least finaly change from green to purple without the need for a windows dualboot.

i had to remove the open rgb version of fedora and compile it from gitlab (including setting up udev rules) myselfes to let it work

Finaly, as i waited almost 1.5 years for this

Can't get some games to use dedicated GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 4:59am

I'm on a Debian laptop with a dedicated Nvidia GPU, and integrated Intel Graphics. I'm wanting to play games, but I've only been able to get one game, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, running with the proper GPU (verified with nvidia-smi) using the following command:

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json %command%

But when I try to run Remnant 2 or EYE Divine Cybermancy, that same command nor variations thereof don't work, and I can't get either of them to use my dedicated GPU (again, confirmed by them not showing up in nvidia-smi). Notably, I've been able to get other applications to run on it (for example, Firefox by adding env __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia, to the beginning of the exec= line), just not games. They both launch, but won't use the right GPU.

For Remnant, this is the best command I've managed to get, since the game won't launch without it at all (I don't know how much of this is doing anything; I was doing this to get it to use the right GPU, and to fix an error where DX12 wasn't being detected):

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_0 %command%

glxinfo | grep OpenGL only shows Intel Mesa, which leads me to believe OpenGL isn't registering my GPU. But if I tell that command to run with __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia added to the beginning, it shows my dedicated GPU.

I don't know if any of this is helpful. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Bazzite Hype

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 3:50am

Ive been gaming on POP! OS for a few years now. There are somethings to work through but overall it seems fine. I am very comfortable with Debian-based distros.

Especially after the Gamer's Nexus video there seems to be an absolute swell of interest in bazzite. Which is great, I love that for them and the linux community at large.

My question is: Is there anything I'm missing in bazzite that isn't in a distro intended for gaming? Seems like there is a new poster child distro every so often in the Linux community (no shade). Is that what this is? Am I missing something? Is there a feature I am missing?

Weird drops in FPS, in-game stats don't show frame drops

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 3:45am

I play on steam using Proton 9.0-4. There are like 8 or 9 instances in this clip where you can see my game sort of stall, then fast forward, like it loses whole chunks of frames, then runs fine, but in the graph above you don't see it drop indicating 144 fps, as if rocket league isn't experiencing the issue, proton is. It also seems like it happens in other games, but it either is worse in Rocket League or maybe I'm just more aware of it, but it does happen in other games.

I've tried disabling steam overlay, changing to Proton experimental (that was worse, it wouldn't even start one time). I'm on Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon 6.4.8, AMD graphics card. Any ideas, or has anybody seen something like this before?

It's also certainly not lag, this training area requires zero network connectivity

Cyberpunk Resolution Issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2025 - 2:49am

Hi,

For some reason, Cyberpunk thinks my monitor's native resolution is 5222x2938, despite my monitor being a standard 4k panel (3840x2160).. When I set the borderless resolution to 3840x2160, it runs in a small window. This is obviously causing it to run rather poorly despite using FSR and a 7800xt. Any ideas?? Fedora 43 for what it's worth.
