Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 6:05am

Getting the same FPS on low and ultra settings when playing DbD at both a low usage of GPU, CPU and RAM.

Linux migration help ?.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 5:02am

Hello, I really want to switch to linux from windows, but I heard some tough stuff about gaming support, for example not all steam games run natively but if they don't steam uses proton, is proton any good ?, how much fps will I lose compared to windows ?, I also play overwatch at a high level and I didn't hear good things either. I play league of legends too but I am ready to never play that game again just to have linux on my system, thanks again.

DLSS frame generation micro stutter

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 4:36am

Tried running Horizon Forbidden West (Proton Experimental) on Fedora 42 KDE Plasma with on RTX 4060 Laptop with RPM Fusion Nvidia drivers. After enabling DLSS frame gen, the FPS went up as they should (from 60 to around 90-100 FPS as reported by Mangohud), but felt like it was running at 40-50 FPS.

When I try switching to FSR 3 frame gen, the FPS are about the same as with DLSS frame gen, but it feels considerably smoother. I should also mention that the DLSS issue doesn't happen on Windows.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

So, i have a really weak laptop, and i wanted to use linux to see if i can have more fps on my games and more privacy too.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 4:11am

these are my specifications:

Cpu: Intel Celeron N4020 1.1GHz dual core

Ram: 4GB DDR4

GPU/IGPU: Intel UHD Graphics 600

Storage: SSD 128GB (i don't know if its NVMe or Sata)

i run some games with a "decent" performance, minecraft bedrock/java is playable, but java has a LOT of stutters when loading new regions of the world, i also play ultrakill and it runs 60 fps almost every time. i'm thinking to change my OS to linux because of the discontinuation on windows 10 support, but with the experience i had, i refused to leave windows. the thing is, i used some Distros before: Manjaro, Linux Mint, Pop OS etc. but on every distro i used, i got the same issues that made me return to windows. My Wifi is always terrible on linux, every place i go to find help, no one gives me propper help, also, for some reason, i got bad fps on games too. ultrakill for example, on windows runs perfectly at 60 fps, but on linux i can't even reach 10, and minecraft, which should be running like butter, doesn't reach even 4 fps on 1.7.10 with optfine AND render distance on 2. i tried using both methods of installation from those distros, like using the Proprietary Drivers option, and then trying to install with Open Source drivers. both give me the same result, bad wifi, bad performance, even Xbox Cloud Gaming had issues when i tried to play something on it, like... the image didn't even appeared sometimes. i want help because this is the only laptop that i have and i can't get a new one, but the need to have some secure OS not only for privacy but for gaming is huge. is there any help which i can get to actually leave windows and use something else? some recommendation of distro for me to use or some way to fix those problems on the distros i already used? i heard that this can be problems with the installed drivers, but no one teach properly how do i even find the right driver, how to identify my device, and when someone try to help me (on discord for example), when i don't know to use a specific command, they get mad and stop helping me.

Weird input problem on Steam Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 1:52am

I have this weird input issue with Warframe on Steam Proton (tested all the latest versions as of writing) that, no matter what I do, I can't get rid of.

I am running a Garuda Linux install with Wayland, on the pre installed Steam client, and no commands on the game, just straight out the box Proton. Please note I just arrived at the Linux community and I'm still figuring things out, but I did my research and came out empty handed.

The game seems to read raw inputs from my mouse and keyboard and misinterpret them. For instance, I get raw KP_End, KP_Down, etc, when I bind the num pad to ingame actions even with num lock on (this part doesn't bother me since it still works fine), and I get a Mouse Button 4 and Mouse Button 5 when I scroll side to side (those are the forwards and backwards buttons on a modern mouse, and absolutely affect gameplay).

I like having Mouse Button 4 as a convenient swap weapon button, since it's an action that would be awkward to press and hold mid battle otherwise, and every time I press middle click, it accidentally triggers left or right scroll because the wheel on the G502 is a little loose on those buttons. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? Will a macro work when I eventually figure out how to make one on Wayland?

Skyrim Ro modpack no dialog audio or music.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 1:31am

I installed Skyrim Modpack Ro via Wabbajack: https://github.com/ThirdEyeSqueegee/Ro

Title explains my issue. Now this isn't an issue with the modpack. This is a common bug under linux/proton for this game.

Now I have found a supposed fix for this and that is installing xact audio library via protonticks into your steam prefix.

`env WINEPREFIX=~/home/ech0/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/489830/pfx winetricks
--force xact`

Then In steam command options: `WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%`

This unfortunately doesn't resolve the issue for me.

I have poor performance on the same game due to lutris

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 1:16am

Hello everybody, I started gaming on linux when I was on debian I didn't use an emulator like now (lutris) I used straight up wine and the performance was great. I moved on to linux mint and here is where the issues began, I installed lutris on it and installed the same game I played on debian and it ran fine until I reach a 3D area in the game and horrible stuttering began, the whole game is 2D except one 3D area when I enter it the game lags horribly, even tho it ran well without lutris, and I installed another game that was also very low on specs also lagged a lot.

These issues didn't happen except on lutris on just wine it worked fine.

And if it helps the game's name is sonic galactic demo 2 all 2D except one 3D area.

Thanks in advance.

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Can't change anything in options, screen flickering and windowed

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 12:59am

Is this game built in the same RE engine as the RE2 and RE3? They both work well on my PC but for some reason RE4 Remake, started with screen flickering and Windowed despite it saying it is Fullscreen.

I tried it with Proton Experimental, 9.0-4 and GE-Proton9-26, and still the same issue.

I found an old post mentioning to press Alt+Enter and it did stop the screen flickering. but I can't change anything in "Options".

I can select anything else, like costumes, check DLC etc. But for some reason, nothing in "Options" can be changed.

Anyone else experienced this before?

Gamescope with Monster Hunter Wilds is inconsistent on controller

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Apr 2025 - 12:01am

I'm trying to use gamescope with Monster Hunter Wilds to get HDR support to work, but there is this constant battle with trying to get controller to work with it.

For context I run gamescope through launch options and it looks like this,

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" gamemoderun gamescope -W 3840 -H 2160 --mangoapp --hdr-enabled --adaptive-sync -f -- %command% /WineDetectionEnabled:False

With these launch options controller works fine but eventually the dreaded fps frametime bomb hits.

So I did the obvious thing and googled an answer both being LD_PRELOAD="" and the -e but the -e solution just straight up doesn't work causing noise to play but no window or application on taskbar to pop up. and The LD_PRELOAD="" trick causes the controller not work. However when I remove the gamescope commands but keep LD_PRELOAD="" the controller works which just confuses me

I tried isolating every command possible even resetting to base game files like a fresh game install and nothing. I am at my wits end here trying to make it work.

I've even done sudo setcap 'CAP_SYS_NICE=eip' $(which gamescope) both on and off when its on the controller doesn't work if gamescope (not including LD_PRELOAD="") is the launch options (fun fact Doom Eternal has none of these issues no timebomb nothing) and off bring us back to the beginning.

The only solution that works is using the gamescope terminal command to run steam and launch MHWILDS through that nothing else needed and no frame bomb controller works fine. HOWEVER any form of steam notifications causes steam and as result the game to CRASH so I have to stay offline and even then when an achievement popped it cause steam to crash YAY.

Any help from people smarter the me would appreciated I started my Linux journey this year and haven't had any issues til this one particular thing.

OS: Arch x86_64

Kernel : 6.14.3-arch1-1

DE: KDE Plasma

CPU: 7800X3d

GPU: 7900XTX

gamescope 3.16.3-1

Anyone experiencing issues with Steam Remote Play to Steamdeck?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 11:13pm

When I try to use Steam remote play from my desktop PC to my steam deck, the game will run fine for like 10 minutes. Then the graphics will get very grainy and start stuttering, the inputs will start to lag a lot. Eventually the "lost connection" symbol in the bottom right will start showing up. Now, my steamdeck is on wifi, so understandably I thought it was a connection issue. So I ran an ethernet cable to my steamdeck dock and tried again. Still witnessed the same behavior.

In troubleshooting this I've tried:

Kernel 6.15.0-rc3-1-mainline

Kernel 6.13.8.arch1-1

Making sure hardware encoding/decoding is off in the remote play options

physically bring the steam deck closer to the desktop PC

Ethernet Powerline adapter

Games: CyberPunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds

All of the above still had the same connection issue problem.

Now the interesting thing is, I used to be on Linux Mint a couple months ago. I remember being able to remote play on linux mint perfectly to my steamdeck. Mainly played monster hunter wilds. I also have a windows partition. I tried remote play there and it works perfectly as well.

I tried searching for any problems with recent kernels and steam remote play but haven't seen anything recent. I've also tried about 3 separate times to get moonlight working but it just didn't work for me. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else is having problems if it's just a "me" thing

System:

Ryzen 7 3800X

AMD 9070XT

32GB RAM

OS: EndeavourOS

kernel: 6.14.3-arch1-1

KDE Plasma 6.3.4, Wayland

Game runs on Heroic but not on Lutris or Bottles: why?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 11:02pm

I know that a Steam native version exists, but I'm trying to run SuperHot which has been given for free by Amazon Prime. The given binaries are only for Windows, unfortunately. I've been able to launch and play it effortlessly through Heroic (GE-Proton9-27) but no luck with Lutris or Bottles, even though I got the same Proton version running. I tried disabling UMU on Heroic and the game runs anyway. What could be a reason for this difference of behavior?

Infinite Warfare not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 10:27pm

I installed it from Fitgirl Repacks via Torrent with Transmision. tried to executed it as I would do normally like any other game, testing it with the lowest graphics settings, but it crashes with no error popups after some seconds of starting the first mission. I use Linux Mint with KDE Plasma, Intel procesor with Iris Xe Graphics and 8GB of RAM. also, shader load takes so long that I believe it's something about PortProton or GPU. what can I do in this case?

Which distro to install?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 9:37pm

Hey there,

I have an older AMD CPU machine with an RTX 3060 running Windows 10 in my living room. The motherboard on it doesn't support Windows 11 (Windows 10 support is being discontinued in October) and I don't feel like spending money right now to build a new rig.

I have another powerful machine that I moonlight into for more intense games. I was looking into installing Bazzite. Is that the one everyone recommends, or should I just install mint or something? I do want to install steam on it if possible.

I just never have installed Steam on a Linux machine, so I'm not entirely sure how many of my games will work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
