Global Hotkeys - Comms Heavy Gaming
Heya folks,
Have setup Mint and Arch and had the all working extremely well with the games I play. One I do play is EVE and it is very comms heavy. Sometimes multiple mumble and discord comms.
In Windows its just multiple push to talk keys, but I can't seem to get this working unless the app is focused in Linux. Have read about it and it seems to be a security measure but has anyone got some insight into making it work. Really the only thing that's holding me back on a full switch.

Can someone help me understand why there is a little difference in model's textures and paints in this game(Protanki)? I've tried using bottles(soda), wine, wine-ge, proton-ge and it still is the same. So far have tried on Arch as well as Fedora using...

Should I Dual Boot or Use a VM for Ubuntu Minecraft Server on My New PC?
Hey everyone! I recently got a new PC and I'm trying to figure out the best setup for both gaming and running a Minecraft server for me and my friends. Here’s what I have:
- 64GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
- Ryzen 7 5700X or 5600X (not entirely sure which one
- RX 5600 or RX 6600 GPU (also somewhere in that performance range)
My main use for the system will be gaming on Windows 11, but I also want to run Ubuntu for hosting a Minecraft server. I’m torn between two options:
- Dual-booting: Partitioning the drive and installing both Windows 11 and Ubuntu, so I can choose which one to boot into based on what I need.
- VM Setup: Running Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine while staying in Windows 11 for everything else.
I have the hardware to support it, but I’m not sure which would give me the best balance of performance and convenience. I’d appreciate any insights on which approach would be better for running a Minecraft server in Ubuntu while still keeping gaming performance top-notch on Windows.
Thanks in advance!

Use Lutris To run executable in Proton Prefix
Hey,
I'm trying to figure out modding on Linux. To be fair, I installed Linux yesterday, so maybe this question is pretty basic...
Most games I've tested so far seem to work fine on Steam with Proton. Some older Windows games even perform better than on Win11.
I want to try modding my games now and begin with a Unity-based game called Pathfinder: Wrath of the Rogues.
I found this short guide.
With Unity games, modding works as follows: there's a Unity Mod Manager (UMM) you need to install somewhere on your system. You specify which game you want to mod (there's a supported games list), and you can provide it with the path to that game (or let UMM find it automatically).
UMM then performs DLL injection into the game, allowing you to drag and drop zip mods into its interface window to install them for the game you chose.
The method I found in the guide involves placing the UMM executable into the same Proton prefix as my game and adding the executable of the game to Steam as a Non-Steam game. Then, after running it(UMM as a non steam game), I can add the mods I want before starting the game.
My question is: Can I use Lutris instead of adding UMM as a separate non-Steam game?
I mean, can I set up UMM in Lutris and specify that it runs in the same Proton prefix as the Steam-installed Pathfinder game?
Perhaps my issue is just a psychological barrier of not wanting to bloat my steam interface with a bunch of non steam moding tools.
Becuse there is another modding tool for Pathfinder, it's called Mod Finder https://github.com/Pathfinder-WOTR-Modding-Community/ModFinder
Mod Finder is another tool for modding Pathfinder and works by accompanying UMM to help manage mods better. So if I want to use it, I'll need to add another Non steam game to steam.
Maybe there's a more efficient method that could be explored instead of cluttering my Steam library with multiple modding tools ?
I think in Lutrix this somehow can be managed better maybe?

Guide: How to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein on Linux (Ubuntu)
Anyone else here having problems with a 9070XT?
So I got pretty lucky and I managed to grab a 9070XT, my only problem is here im having quite a bit of trouble getting it working right. I was using mint 22.1 but it doesn't seem to support it yet, I tried updating the kernel and a bunch of other doodads and I could not get it to recognize the 9070XT, so then I tried switching over to nobara and for some reason I just can't get anything running right, I can boot into marvel rivals but the moment I start a match the game will keep playing in the background but it freezes on the hero screen leading me to believe it's a driver issue.

Steam games presenting multiple audio streams
Kind of an annoying issue I'm having where all steam games have 2 or 3 audio streams, and thus are listed multiple times in volume control panels. When I go to adjust per application volume, I have to just randomly try one until I get the one that is right. Google was useless. I have tried different proton versions, SDL_AUDIODRIVER, and WAVONLY env variables.

Marvel Rivals crashing on startup
Hey everyone, I made the swap to Linux mint 22 recently and so far for every other game I have been having no issues other than marvel rivals.
When I first install the game I can usually get about 1-2 matches in before it crashes and I get the same error either when attempting to start the game or right as I am about to start a match.
I am currently using the launch options: SteamDeck=1 %command% -PSOCompileMode=1
and using GE-Proton9-27
I have tried installing it into my main harddrive instead but got the same results.
Just want to see if anyone else has had this issue, or knows what I am doing wrong

Problems with a GameSir G7 SE controller
Hi everyone, a few months ago I bought a GameSir G7 SE Wired, a good controller that I used on both Windows and Linux, but for a couple of weeks on my Arch Linux laptop I'm having a little problem, sometimes when I unplug it and plug it back in the controller is recognized as a dinput controller and every button doesn't work, the only way to make it work is to reset it manually via usbreset, I can't figure out if it's a bug in the controller that doesn't reset/turn on correctly or a bug in Arch Linux in the new kernel, because for a few months it worked without problems (I tried on Fedora 6.14 and it works without problems), I've already tried using different drivers from xpad like xone (the updated fork) but the problem persists, does anyone have any suggestions? if you have this controller or others from gamesir could you let me know if you're having problems? Thanks.

Dualsense Trackpad being used as mouse in game
I'm trying to play ghost of tsushima on linux (mint) and the trackpad is being used as a mouse so every time i try to use the wind or gesture i end up spinning the camera wildly. I've tried deactivating it in steam, holding a variety of buttons down to turn it off, and nothing is working. i read somewhere about drivers needing to be updated, but i can't find any linux drivers, just some 5 year old threads about someone needing to update linux instead.

Celeste Lighting Glitches on Debian 12 KDE Plasma with Intel Iris Xe
I’m hitting rendering issues with Celeste on Debian 12 with KDE Plasma 5.27.5 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The native Linux version has a severe lighting glitch (attachment 1). This wasn’t an issue on my old laptop running Gnome. Forcing Proton Hotfix in Steam improved things significantly, reducing it to a minor lighting glitch (attachment 2).
I tried both switching between Wayland and Plasma (X11) sessions at the SDDM login screen and tweaking KDE's compositor settings (enabled "Allow applications to block compositing," set OpenGL 3.1, disabled VSync) but neither brought improvement.
I suspect a Mesa driver issue or game-specific rendering quirk. Planning to try Mesa backports next, but I’d love to hear your suggestions.

Steam launcher problems from the Steam Launch app indicator.
The game in the picture is just an example of a problem that appears to be Steam-wide on my rig.
System: Archlinux (latest updates/stock kernel), KDE-wayland, AMD hardware. 64 gig Ram (Latest non-beta Steam client, auto-updated to current by Steam.)
For the last little while (couple of months), the UI's app indicator has been silently crashing when attempting to use it to launch games. When I launch within the UI, everything works.
The app indicator LOOKS like a good launch as the UI shows the game starting up from the app indicator launch...Journalctl just shows the game quitting. Logs aren't showing much either.
This isn't a showstopper or anything, but it is annoying. :-)
It almost seems like the app indicator 'launch' isn't using the same launch commands/parameters that the UI is using. That makes zippo sense to me, but hey.

How to get Zenless Zone Zero to work on Linux?
Building a new living room PC. It's running Bazzite. I only need a few games on it, one is Zenless Zone Zero. Plenty of ZZZ guides on youtube on how to get it to work but none of them work. I've tried Lutris but it would error and on Heroic installing the game through the Epic store, the game won't launch past first install and launch of the game.
Really wanted to get into Linux but the constant headaches are a real turn off.
Anyone have a proper guide on how to get ZZZ to work? Most of the mentioned guide are dated to 2024 but we'll be nearly half way through 2025.

Where does wine/proton pull region info for matchmaking in games?
When playing certain online games and searching for people to play with in matchmaking, I keep getting lobbies and players from other regions - particularly America which I know is a default for many regional settings. I’m pretty far from America so this is less than ideal. Any idea where wine/proton/games in general might try to grab regional info so I can override it? Of course the games might also just have bunk matchmaking code but I can’t fix that

Cursor being locked to screen (No Man's sky, Dredge and others)
I have 2 monitors and would like to be able to actually USE the second one. But these game implemented a cheap fix to preventing the cursor from going off screen when not in a menu, which is to remove your access to any other monitor.
This is really annoying because anytime I want to research shit on interned or respond to discord messages. I have to open my shitty phone, type the password, wait for the old hardware to load anything, wait for the window to refresh, open the app, wait for it to load and repeat this each time I want to do anything. Not mentionning that if I want to go on call I have to find a place to save the game and close it.
I've tried alt-tabbing with no success, the cursor just teleports back on the main screen.

Using computer as a bluetooth audio sink
I'm interested in getting a set up where my steam deck can use my computer like a bluetooth headset. I've done some digging and I see that people have done things like this, but haven't really found how to do it. I've got Pipewire with wireplumber and Bluez on my laptop. Is anyone familiar with configuring Bluez/Pipewire to offer up an audio sink over bluetooth?

Last Epoch on Proton while forcing Vulkan
Can anyone confirm that they are running the game on the latest update while forcing Vulkan?
I've been tearing my hair off this afternoon trying to understand why I'm crashing when forcing Vulkan. I do have alternatives to play, but I just wanted to troubleshoot this for the sake of it.
I'm on Arch, I went through all the Vulkan troubleshooting guides I could find. I'm not seeing anything remarkable on the proton crash logs.
This is the specific error I get:
[Physics::Module] Initialized MultithreadedJobDispatcher with {0} workers.
Initialize engine version: 2021.3.42f1 (f1197811e8ce)
[Subsystems] Discovering subsystems at path Z:/home/joao/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Last Epoch/Last Epoch_Data/UnitySubsystems
Forcing GfxDevice: Vulkan
Forced GfxDevice 'Vulkan' was not built from editor, shaders will not be available
InitializeEngineGraphics failed
PlayerInitEngineGraphics: InitializeEngineGraphics failed
I'm not looking for help fixing as much as I'm wondering if by any chance this is an issue with the game instead of with my system. Could anyone help test that?

Graphic issue
Since I installed endeavouros yesterday in-game lighting has been blocky. It has happened in all of the games I have tried, using multiple different proton versions and graphic settings, on both X11 and wayland. I was not having this issue on other distros.
Attaching an image for a visual reference of what I am talking about (the light bulbs over “SINNER’S”).
