Use Display Port over HDMI for latest Nvidia Drivers

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 4:23pm

Prefacing this by saying you should probably already be using DP as it's capable of outputting higher res at higher framerates compared to older HDMI versions. I'm running a dual monitor setup with one monitor being 2k. Nvidia drivers 535 worked for me with HDMI but when bumping to the latest stable one ~570 I noticed that I would just get black screens on boot. No cursor. No errors. I thought it was just issues with distros/driver combinations but had seen this in some obscure forum and it worked for me.

I need better temps/battery life. Plz help?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 3:48pm

My laptop has a 13900h 32 gigs of ram and no dGPU.

I'm already using Gentoo and compiling everything (where possible) with Clang, since I get better performance from it compared to GCC. My current CFLAGS are -O3 -march=raptorlake -pipe -flto -fwhole-program-vtables -fno-fat-lto-objects -fno-math-errno -g0. I've disabled several systemd services that were redundant or unnecessary for my setup, and I've also turned off nearly every KDE service. I'm using the Iris Xe driver as well.

I experimented with enabling Vulkan mode in KDE instead of OpenGL, but that ended up breaking all the Qt apps I use.

Is there anything else I can do without switching to a different WM/DE or building a fully customized kernel? (The CachyOS kernel is about as far as I’ve gone in that direction.) WM/DE alternatives tend to be too far from the Windows-like UX I prefer — yes, I know it’s ironic coming from a Gentoo user.

Also, I feel like I get better battery life using PPD compared to other power management solutions.

Is there a way to improve how workloads are distributed between P and E cores? (I've noticed that relying only on E cores actually drains more power in the long run — they're only efficient for very short, low-intensity workloads.)

OpenSUSE ETS 2 freezing so much when i entering a undiscovered city

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 3:19pm

Hi, iam using OpenSUSE, i bought ETS 2 about a week ago, since i downloaded and played the game every time i enter an undiscovered city, the game freezes incredibly, and i cant do anything. The game doesn't crash it doesnt work ehrn i press any key on computer, only the truck sounds in the game come and go frequently. When i open the game with proton nothing change, i tried open it with opengl, dx11, safe mode, btw the game is much smoother and faster without proton. When i do alt + f4 it is too doesnt work every time this happens i just do force shutdown. Can anybody help me? There are no mods or anything other than the free dlcs that came with the game when i bought. Also, after force shutdown, when i turn on the computer and enter game again, there is no freezing this time about that city.

Note: sorry for if its any translation error.

My pc specs: amd ryzen 3 3250U with radeon graphics (vega 3) 8gb ram (2 of it has igpu so technicly its 6)

Migrating to BazziteOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 2:27pm

As a long-time Windows User, I have decided to switch to Linux for my gaming and content creation rig. One of the recommendations I got was BazziteOS, and all screenshots and videos show that it looks and plays similarly to SteamOS. But I have some questions regarding this switch, so I thought I could post it here.
1. I know it is a Linux GamingOS but does it have too much bloatware to make it gaming and will it hinder performance?
2. Can I run Bazzite like a normal OS and run normal apps like Davinci Resolve, OBS, and Libreoffice suite?
3. Does it support Elgato hardware(I have an Elgato mic and the Stream Deck)?
4. How is the driver support and update for GPU different from Windows(I run an all AMD PC)?
5. Does it support AV1 codec for streams?
6. Does it have multi-screen support?
Thanks

Is there a shortcut for Ctrl+Z on the Steam Deck in desktop mode?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 1:29pm

Ideally, I'd like it to work without me needing to open the keyboard. Actually, even with the keyboard, it doesn't work: when I press Ctrl+Z simultaneously, it either closes the keyboard (which makes sense) or opens a menu. I know you can configure controls in the controller settings in Steam, but I'm new to this and don't understand how to associate the Ctrl+Z keyboard shortcut with the same function you have on Windows (undo the previous action). In short, I can't figure out how to execute the 'undo previous action' command. Thanks for your help

Questions regarding corectrl and safe temperatures etc.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28 Jul 2025 - 1:18pm

I'm playing DQXI atm and I'm sometimes experiencing micro stutters when loading new environments. However looking at my cpu in corectrl, it's only utilized 20%~, however I also have this game on an old HDD so that could be the issue too. Should I try changing my frequency governor?

Also regarding my gpu in corectrl, I'm not sure if those temps are fine, but it is currently really hot in my apartment. Around 10~ degrees hotter than usual. Not sure if I should tinker with those.

Any advice thoughts highly appreciated. Don't know my way around these things I have the desire to learn.
