CachyOS Handheld edition: Inconsistent Black screen when switching to desktop mode from game mode

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 5:07pm

im using CachyOS handheld edition on my GPD Win 2. Works great except when using game mode and switching to desktop mode, I sometimes get a black screen and does not transistion to the desktop session. Sometimes it works but most times did not.

Researched the possible solutions:

Some people encounter this issue with decky loader plug ins. But I am not using decky loader.

Some say delete the kscreen folder in .local fixes the problem. This did not work either.

Updated to the preview brach for deck steam, did not work.

Im at my wits end. Any help would be great.

is Nvidia on linux that bad?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 4:56pm

Recently I've been deciding between an rx 7900 xtx and an rtx 4070 ti super for gaming and blender on linux. on one hand linux works better with amd when it comes to gaming but since i also want to use blender, which makes me lean towards nvidia since it beats amd in productivity with no contest. but i’ve also heard that nvidia performs worse on linux than amd when it comes to gaming. so i’m asking, is nvidia on linux that bad to the point i have to give up my dreams of being a 3d modelling artist and go all amd?

oh and sorry for making it sound dramatic at the end and also sorry for bad english lol

Lightweight OS?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 4:52pm

PLEASE READ Hey everyone, I have an AMILO-D Series CY 23 with 240MB of ram and a 20GB HDD. I have tried Damn small linux and tiny core linux, but they didn’t felt good to me. I wanted to play some old games and maybe even Minecraft, just to see how well it performed. And my lovely Arch is too big to run here :( Any advice?

Cloud save not working with Star Wars Outlaws

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 4:32pm

Trying to play Star Wars Outlaws in Steam on Cachyos. It won't sync the cloud saves. It says I'm logged into my ubisoft account, but none of my saves from Windows come over. Using Proton GE-27. Only thing I can think of would be to copy my game saves over manually, but then what I play on Linux won't sync the other way. It's nice to be able to play on other devices without having to copy game save data manually each time.

Help with sorting load order? MO2 & Skyrim

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 4:30pm

Hey hey,

I’m trying to build a modlist for Skyrim on steam deck. For the most part it’s going well and the modlist itself is actually working fine but I’m still working things out. What I’d like to do is to use LOOT to sort my order and check for any missing patches etc.

I’m currently using the internal ‘sort’ button in MO2. The trouble is it rarely seems to show the LOOT information in the window, I just get the progress bar saying it’s done and a blank white window underneath. Like once or twice I’ve had the window show the LOOT interface with info on the plugins and what needs cleaning/what needs patches etc.

I’ve had no luck getting the actual LOOT application working. I’ve installed it and got it working in MO2 but I can’t get it to detect Skyrim. I also tried the native Linux flatpak version of LOOT but I can’t get that to see the MO2 mods folder.

Has anyone got LOOT working properly with MO2 on deck?

Expand and rearrange your inventory, watch numbers tick up and break the game in LOOTPLOT

Gaming on Linux - 22 Apr 2025 - 3:32pm
I have no idea what actual genre LOOTPLOT belongs in, or how to properly describe it. You go through rounds of sorting through your inventory and expanding it, trying to create crazy synergies and keep increasing your points needed to beat each level.

Audio problems in games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 3:20pm

Currently, no native Linux game that I install can be heard, only Stardew Valley that was already installed before the problem, it originally started with applications like VLC and Elisa (I had to manually change the audio output in VLC and Elisa like it opens without audio, closes and then opens with audio, but the native games open without any audio. How can I solve this?

OS: EndeavourOS Note: I have Pulseaudio and Alsa installed with all the components, also at times in the KDE Plasma sound settings it tells me that it could not connect to the audio system

Looking for advice on switching from Windows 10 to Linux for gaming (mainly Hunt: Showdown)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Apr 2025 - 1:50pm

Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to switch from Windows 10 to Linux, and since I'm a complete beginner, I've been watching a lot of videos and tutorials to learn as much as I can.

My main goal is to have a stable and optimized system for gaming. The game I play the most is Hunt: Showdown. I saw that some gaming-focused distros like CachyOS and PikaOS exist, and I’m wondering if one of them would be a good fit for my setup.

Here’s my current hardware:

  • CPU: Intel i5-4440 @ 3.10GHz
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070
  • RAM: 8 GB

I know this setup is technically below the official minimum requirements for Hunt, but I can still play it on Windows 10 at 60–75 FPS on minimum settings. So I’m wondering if I could get similar performance on Linux.

Do you have any distro recommendations for this kind of setup? Any tips for making the switch smoother, or things to avoid? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s made a similar transition.

Thanks in advance!
