Steam games being "shifted" visually

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Apr 2025 - 1:37am

Hey all, I'm pretty new to gaming on linux, so please let me know if I'm leaving out any important information, but I'll try my best to provide everything that should be necessary. I'm on NixOS running Qtile as my window manager, so I don't have any of the utilities from something like Gnome by default. I typically open games in my first workspace using the "Max" layout, and in my qtile config I have it sent to always show my panel at the top of the screen (I think this is probably my issue but I'm not sure if there's a fix). I haven't made any tweaks to how the game launches, just using whatever version if Proton Steam is defaulting too. Additionally, when the game is starting, I skip the "Loading Vulkan shaders" prompt because it was also happening when I launch Enshrouded, but didn't actually load anything after ~20 minutes and I've never had an issue skipping this step.

I installed Last Epoch toady to play with some friends while we wait to see what happens to Path of Exile, but I have an issue where the game feels like it's shifted from where it should be, I've noticed this with The Bazaar too, and is causes me to have to click slightly above where the interact should be. For larger buttons that's not really a problem of course, but on small loot drops in a game like Last Epoch it makes clicking things quickly or accurately pretty difficult.

You can see that the bottom of the \"shop\" button is cut off

I can't actually screen shot my whole screen because flameshot doesn't work properly for me (unrelated but wow is it annoying and haven't had much help from the maintainer), but the "shop" button on the bottom of the mana pool is cutoff during gameplay. I can't get a screenshot with my cursor as well, but I have to hover above the wrist of the statue to actually highlight and click the button.

Is there some way to launch the game where it's shifted back up a number of pixels, or toggle some in-game graphics setting to force the game to figure out that the screen doesn't match? Or is the only answer to adjust my WM config to hide my panel while games are open?

Automating Game Servers on Linux.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Apr 2025 - 12:35am

Hey,

Just have been planning on maybe starting a online hosting company. I've managed to get domains automated via Plesk etc. But I'm also wanting game servers, I was looking into LinuxGSM and not quite sure if that's the way to go. Haven't really dealt with automation too much, but any general directions or advice will go a long way for automation for game servers.

Mount and blade warband does not open

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Apr 2025 - 12:24am

Hi, yesterday I made a post asking for help to change the language of Mount & Blade: Warband, which I managed to do, but now the game won’t launch. I try to start it, and Steam shows it's running, but then it closes and the "Play" button appears again. I’ve already reinstalled the game, but it still won’t open.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Obliviom

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 23 Apr 2025 - 10:45pm

Hello.

I played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remastered and it didn't run very well on my desktop.

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04LTS with the latest drivers.

I'm playing at max settings at 1080p, and the open world game ran at 32 FPS and maxed out at 38-39 FPS.

Sometimes the game crash too.

My config: Ryzen 7 3700x 24GB DDR4 2400Mhz RTX 4090.

I see the protondb, but not see any special config for oblivion yet.

Someone played the game? Any config to improve the performance?

Still trying to get Steam and Eve Online to run/work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 23 Apr 2025 - 7:48pm

So been working on this process for about 3 days now. I'm running mint 22.1 and I've tried Lutris, wine and today trying to figure out Proton in Steam. Got Eve Online downloaded, updated, and running in Compatibility mode first with Proton Exp and then Proton 9.0. Steam says Eve is running, Eve Launcher is running and signed into my Account. Choose Character and push Play. Says that it is Starting. Then nothing happens but seconds later button goes back to Push Play. Getting a little exhausted. So close yet so far.

MH Wilds consistent crashing on start up at "Initializing Network"

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 23 Apr 2025 - 6:01pm

I've dug through google and chatgpt for help on playing this game. I keep encountering a crash right when the "Initializing Network" box appears. From what chatgpt is saying, the game crashes so hard it doesn't give me an actual crash log. The only file I get is a .dmp.tmp file which could take a while to decode? No idea as I'm still new to linux. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, verifying game files, going through each proton version. The crash happens at the same place. I also have seen it could be the save file. I deleted it, still same issue. The game runs perfectly fine on my Ally x (running windows 11). Can someone help me out? I'd like to stream it from my computer but the game won't even launch.

TES Oblivion Remastered on RTX 4090 | 4K DLSS | Hardware RT

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 23 Apr 2025 - 5:18pm

Here is the new Oblivion Remaster working great on Nvidia hardware out of the box. The performance drops once you get outside, but frame generation could resolve that get you an even better experience on Linux. I hope nVidia continue to improve VKD3D performance!
