monitoring gpu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 9:09pm

Hi everyone, I installed some gpu monitoring apps so I can monitor gpu temps etc and none of them recognize my gpu. I am on linux mint. My card is recognized in system info but not in any of the apps I've installed. Is there any work around for this? My card is a gtx 1660 super. I can provide any other relevant info if needed. Thanks

Where do I find the items from a mod?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 9:04pm

Been a while since I did much modding, and I've NEVER modded Cyberpunk 2077. I'm having a terrible time locating items added by mods. Should there be some standardized location? I can't craft them, cant find them in my stash. I've checked a few clothing vendors but would love to not have to check them all. I can't find anything under the mod's page on nexus that points me in a direction.

Right now I've installed the Leather and Lace mod and Rider Threads but can't find either one. Is there a console menu I have to access to add them or.....

?

Thanks

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 8:52pm

I created a w11 virtual box to play some games, then downloaded the application to detect my gpu (integrated one) and install the drivers, but it said no gpu was detected. I already have the guest options installed, what can be happening?

Question on Battle.net and continuity between proton updates

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 8:51pm

Hi all! I play WoW off and on, as well as a handful of other blizz titles like WC3 and SC2, so I generally keep Battlenet installed. I discovered not long ago that I could just add the launcher setup .exe to Steam as non-steam game, and run it under Proton, and install it that way, then add the launcher itself as a non-steam game. Has worked great for the past, I don't know, year or so, and I figured, great, a little less fuss than dealing with Lutris and stuff.

Now, as some recent posts on this sub show, there was some recent issue with a bnet update, that requires you to use (or at least required me to use) the newest Proton 10.0 Beta in order to launch it. Which was fine until...it made me reinstall everything bnet related when I launched bnet under proton 10. Weird and annoying, I'll clean it up later, I figured. I then removed the shortcut in steam for the older version of battlenet, since I'm using this new one that was installed under proton 10, and that seemingly completely uninstalled everything related to battlenet. Looking at the disk usage, that seems to track, it definitely wiped out a WoW's worth of gigabytes, and then some.

Soooo, any other WoW (or other bnet gamers) out there have advice on this? I don't want to have to completely reinstall everything in the future, whenever I need to change proton versions. Am I doing something wrong? Is it worth going through Lutris or something else for a more stable experience?

I recently purchased GTA V on Steam, but I'm having trouble playing it. The first cutscene was extremely laggy, and after I skipped it, my game froze. I have installed Proton 9.0-4 and I'm using an RTX 3060 (Driver Version: 570.133.07).

Could anyone please help me with this issue? Thanks!

Broken directional audio playing Minecraft on Linux Mint.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 8:41pm

I don't even know where to ask about this, so I'll post it everywhere I can.

Switched from Windows to Linux Mint today. Got everything set up, installed Minecraft (MultiMC) And my audio's messed up.

It's directional, no matter what you do. Directional audio is turned off in settings, tried many versions, different loaders (vanilla, fabric), but the sound is still directional.

Turning off directional audio only makes it louder directional, it's not the same, that's why I think it's a Linux issue. The audio also has this weird effect, I think it's reverberation? It has the same feel as watching a movie in a cinema. No idea how to fix this, been messing with audio for a few hours now.

Never had this issue playing on Windows.

2 weeks on linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 8:32pm

After years and years of using windows i decided to give myself a fresh start, by wiping away at least 6tb of data and switching to Linux. Specifically Linux mint. I demo'd it on a crummy old laptop and thought it was pretty good so i threw it on my main rig (Nvidia 3070ti with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x processor).

Pros: Holy fuck there are so many pros because genuinely there are so many cool things with linux. From editing to maitenence to gaming its so nice seeing how much was put into this ever expanding OS. Rather than going too detailed im gonna throw some blanket points that cover all the pros and give some details on certain points

  • Gaming performance was surprisingly increased

  • Wifi download speed go brrr (on windows i used to cap out at 40mbps on ethernet, now im at 400mbps. Was it a setting on windows? No clue, dont care)

  • 99% of games i play work out of the box with proton. (I play a lot of games and i mean a lot, so to see almost all of my library just work without any tinkering is amazing)

  • Customization is awesome

  • Most non-gaming programs have an alternative that can be fixed and adjusted to fit your standards.

Cons: When there is good, there is also bad. Much like the pros im gonna throw some blanket cons and go into some smaller details.

  • The initial set up CAN be a pain (perhaps i just have bad luck but getting certain things going like wifi and figuring out sudo and chmod commands can be a tad annoying. Luckily, linux has been around for a long while and there are plenty of forums to guide you on a problem)

  • the 1% of games that dont work good and do need tweaking can be a pain to deal with. (Fuck you mh wilds and ffxvi)

  • pc temps can go off the charts (i clean my pc regularly so its not a dust issue but 200°F when playing certain games is crazy. I did find an msi afterburner replacement called cooler control but sheesh, why is my computer sweating)

Conclusion: linux really is not that scary of an OS. Definitely takes some getting used to in some cases and that initial set up can be a coin toss of being a breeze or a pain in the ass (again, i got unlucky). Hell some of the cons arent even a jab at linux and can be chalked up to outside sources not wanting to support linux. And most problems with linux are fixable too which is the best part. To any newbies i recommend making a cheat sheet to write down terminal commands in regards to maitenence or anything that requires using the terminal.

I rate this experience a 9/10, linux is so close to being the best OS for everyone

Enable Nvidia TXAA/Physx/PCSS on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 8:23pm

so I saw an older post right here that mentioned to use the commandline: PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 %command%

to make certain games built for Nvidia tech to enable the features listed above (or others of Nvidia).
But for some reason, it didn't work.
I'm running CachyOS with the Nvidia Open driver running an RTX 3060 Ti.
Anyone an idea why it might not work?

Games I tried:

  • Secret World Legends
  • Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

I know Black Flag might be glitched using TXAA, as MSAA is glitched... but I was just wondering how I could get it running regardless for games that won't glitch out.

Some games feel way smoother at 35 FPS compared to others.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 7:48pm

I have an ROG Ally with a Bazzite in it, and I mostly play two games: Ghost of Tsushima and God of War. Everything is set to low, and motion blur is off. Even though I cap my FPS at 35, Ghost of Tsushima runs much smoother than God of War. Both are locked at 35 FPS, but for some reason, Ghost of Tsushima feels smoother than God of War. Any idea?

Is it possible to play League of Legends on Linux with "Looking Glass"

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 7:24pm

I couldn't find a Tag for VM stuff or Looking glass so I had to pick the wine/proton.

I did some research and I know that League of Legends is not working on linux after the Vanguard(Anti-cheat) update

But for the last couple of days I'm noticing an app called "Looking Glass", Its almost like a VM running on linux with no problems at all (That's what I'm thinking of)

And I couldn't find anyone talking about running League of Legends on Looking Glass.

Is it possible to make it work or its just another dead end for LoL on Linux ?

Mechwarrior 5: Clans - low FPS?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 7:09pm

I tried Mechwarrior 5: Clans (pirated portable steam version) with few different wine versions using lutris, for example wine 10.6 staging, getting no errors, the game works, after the mission starts it shows 45-48 fps, then it slowly drops the fps as I play, after few minutes its under 10 fps, unplayable.

Tried the same game in windows 11 - consistent 45-48 fps no matter how long I play.

Any ideas how I could fix that?

Installed ProtonTricks, and now my previously-created Winedll launch options don’t work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 6:51pm

I’m on Steam Deck, for what that’s worth.

I had previously modded some games using Frosty Mod Manager, which I’ve been running via Lutris. One of the steps was to put the following line in my Steam Launch Options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm=n,b" %command% -dataPath "ModData/Default"

All of this worked, and I was able to play my modded game. Then I installed ProtonTricks, for a purpose wholly unrelated. My game no longer launches when I’ve got that Launch Option set. I did a clean install of my game and it works, but as soon as I put the above Launch Option in, it stops launching. My assumption - because installing ProtonTricks is the only technical or DLL-related thing I’ve done recently - is that installing ProtonTricks somehow messed up the Wine DLL Override, but I honestly don’t have the knowledge to fix it. I’m not normally a Linux user; my Steam Deck is my only Linux device. Can anybody help, in basic language?

Can’t get FSR to work, strange behaviour

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 6 May 2025 - 6:35pm

I’ve been trying different Linux distros to check how they perform for gaming with proton in my “basic” gear, so I can pick the best performer. So far I found that in Fedora, Norbara and OpenSuse Tumbleweed (all with KDE desktop), when I turn FSR on, games start in a black screen or screen gets full of artifacts, as shown in the attached image. It doesn’t happen with CachyOS or Garuda (KDE too). I’ve tried the two ways of turning on FSR, in Heroic is ticking the checkbox “enable FSR hack” and in steam with “WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%”. I know I can stick to CachyOS or Garuda, but as I found this problem I want to understand why is it happening to get answers on how FSR works. The games I’ve tried are Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Hellblade:Senua’s Sacrifice and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Tried a bit of Quake 2, the remastered version, and it seems to work well. I hope someone will have an answer to what is happening here. Specs: AMD RYZEN 5 6500, RX6500XT 4GB, 16GB RAM. The screen capture in-game is attached.
