It all started when Assassin's Creed Shadows started stuttering on Windows and I saw that people were saying that they get more stable performance on Linux, so I started researching.

I already have a Proxmox and an Ubuntu server, so I thought of trying something new. In the end, I decided to go with EndeavorOS. The installation was a breeze and I loved the UI. Then came installing Steam. Installed the official package. Steam ran and everything was fine. Before I got rid of Windows, I backed everything up with Veeam and put my Steam library on a different SSD so that I could easily import that library later. So I imported the library, enabled Proton Experimental, and tried to start the game... Nothing. After 2 seconds, the game just decided to quit. Tried Proton debugging to get some logs, but it never generated a log anywhere on the system. I was lost. Everything was updated and should've worked.

After a day of troubleshooting, I gave up and thought that the issue was on my part and that I should switch to something that I'm familiar with, so I tried Pop!_OS. Went basically the same there. Installed without problems, started up Steam, imported Steam library, started AC Shadows and the same behavior. Looked at ProtonDB and tried everything there, plus combinations of things. Finally, after some time, I thought of moving the game from the original SSD to the main drive, and that with some special startup options finally let Ubisoft Connect launch at least, but with a caveat: the Ubisoft sign-in window was just a black box. After some searching, some people said to exclude a certain DLL, so I did that with the startup options in Steam. That finally gave me a working sign-in window. After signing in, the artwork before the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows appeared. I became hopeful that finally I got the game working... I waited... And waited... After 15 minutes, nothing happened, and I decided to close the game and do some more troubleshooting. I again looked at ProtonDB and tried every configuration that people have recommended and did everything that they did to make their games start.

Two days went by of just constant troubleshooting and while I was on Discord and tried to start the game, my whole screen went dark and my GPU stopped outputting video. That was my final straw. Installed a fresh Windows 11 instance, imported the library, pressed start and the game just worked. And before anyone says it, I know that there probably is some obscure way to make it run, but that's not the bloody point.

My system: Ryzen 9 9900X RX 9070XT 64GB DDR5 1TB Samsung 970 for system 2TB Samsung 980 for data/games

TL;DR: After AC Shadows stuttered on Windows, I tried running it on Linux (EndeavorOS, then Pop!_OS) for better performance. Despite being familiar with Linux, I spent over 3 days troubleshooting non-starting issues, black screens with Ubisoft Connect, and eventually a GPU crash. Tried everything on ProtonDB/Reddit/Steam forums. Game worked instantly on a fresh Windows 11 install. The amount of effort for a "maybe" isn't worth it.

Hi,

I have a new Xbox controller and I bought an 8bitdo dongle to connect it with Ubuntu.

At first it did not work, but connecting it in Windows and then configuring it in Ubuntu, it appears correctly.

The problem comes when I turned off the computer, the next boot, I turn on the controller and it connects correctly but the applications do not detect it.

I have not installed any 8bitdo software on Linux because I have not found it on his website.

Anyone with the same problem?

i am using bottles(flatpak ver.) to run lies of p, in windows i could create a shourtcut with -dx11 option and it would lauch the gaming the game in dirext x 11 mode as performance in dx12 is not great , how can i do the same in linux i am on opensuse tw, i am using wine 10.8 staging tkg build by kron4ek

lies of p have dx11 support as i have played it in dx11 mode in windows 7 so if anybody knows how to run it in dx11 mode it will be a big help

I want to use Steam Metadata Editor to change the way my games are listed. While it works whenever I make changes, usually after the next reboot Steam goes back to using the default listing data. Is there a way to avoid this reset?

I'm super excited to share some promising news for the Linux gaming community, especially for those interested in high-end controllers. I've attached a screenshot of the official email response I received from Flydigi support below.

I was very interested in the Apex 4 controller, particularly its advanced vibration and adaptive triggers. However, the lack of official Linux support for their software (Flydigi Space) and these cutting-edge features has been a significant barrier for me to purchase their premium controller. While the controller itself might be configurable through a workaround like a Windows VM, installing game-specific mods for adaptive triggers simply wouldn't work.

So, I decided to send an email to their global support team, explaining the growing Linux gaming market and how adding support would benefit them. To my surprise, I received a response quite quickly!

Honestly, this is truly encouraging! The fact that they explicitly state: "We also have a plan" and "Our RD team will work harder," suggests that this isn't just a generic reply, but that they are genuinely looking into it. If you're also interested in Flydigi controllers with full Linux support, I encourage you to send them an email expressing your interest as well! Perhaps the more they hear from us, the higher this project will be prioritized.

I tried following a couple different guides to get my audio interface to work with Rocksmith 2014, and I think I'm most of the way there, but currently my game freezes the moment it starts. I'm not getting any obvious errors from the rs_asio log or the game itself, but I can see the game briefly cycle through several audio devices in pavuctrl and then disappear. I was able to get audio playback through wineasio with VBAsioTest, so I think I have it narrowed down to rs_asio. Below is my rs_asio-log file.

I tried playing Steel Division 2 and Total War Warhammer 3. Warhammer 3 both with native and Proton in multiple versions. However, all just produced a black screen. Warhammer 3 also got a black screen with proton Experimental but I heard the intro play and my cursor changed eventually.
Steel Division 2 gave me a bug that included "adapter desc = AMD Radeon Graphics" which is what leads me to believe it is using the internal graphics card of my AMD Ryzen CPU.

Less demanding games like Fear and Hunger 2 and Darkest Dungeon work properly...

I have tried forcing steam to use the GPU via "__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command%" but that didn't do anything.

I feel like I failed to install something properly but cannot figure it out as I am completely new. System information also lists my graphics card as:

The first photo is with HDR off, the second is with HDR on. If you look at the sky, the colors blend in too much and overall the image is less bright. Is it a common side effect with HDR on Linux right now?

Hi sorry if this has been asked multiple times before, but is anyone able to still run the battlenet launcher and wow on Linux arch? I have been trying for 7 hours using bottles, lutris, heroic, steam and nothing seems to work unfortunately even though lots of people online are mentioning it works super smoothly for them? I am able to open the launcher on nearly all, but keep getting oops something went wrong + waking up agent errors and it's not able to load any game pages. The only thing which works consistently is the shop page in classic blizzard fashion. Any advice or input if it still works for anyone else would be very much appreciated :)!

Hey there!

I'm a complete Linux Noob. I installed Ubuntu 24.04 and made a system partition and a home partition. I also made one user for the administration (SUDOER) and a daily user (NONE SUDOER). After installing Steam and Heroic Games Launcher I tried do install games on my home partition and start them as daily user. This worked very fine on Steam. On Heroic, which I use for GOG, it was possible to install the games, but they didn't start. So I uninstalled them and installed them again as SUDOER user. This wasn't the solution as you can maybe tell ;)

Do I have to install the Heroic games on the system partition or do I have to give Heroic special rights to start the games? If yes, which steps do I have to take?

Please excuse my bad Englisch :)

System: Ryzen 2700X, AMD Radeon VEGA 64, 16 GB RAM

I have been suffering from extremely slow download speeds on steam Native or runtime on any distribution that I have noticed since about a year or two ago,I initially I believed it to be the way the kernel I have been using since on CachyOS was the cause,but the issue resolved itself momentarily once the team at cachyOS removed the particular patch they had for connection handling (cannot remember particulars) but the issue came back,I thought it might have been a HTTPS issue with steam ,so I had steam cfg and have scoured a plethora on threads with download issues on steam to little avail,with a gigabit connection in the UK ,on steam specifically,even if everything else behaved fine and used the full connection,steam itself would stay around 44-60MB/s out of a 110MB/s connection.

These are the things I've tried, tested and ruled out in my specific case and hardware + software configuration: My current specs are R9 9800x3D Asrock Rx 9070xt Steel Legend Asus Rog strix X670E-A (Gigabyte X670 gaming X ax v1 during the majority of these problems) 64GB Corsair 6400MT/s Cl32 2x990 PRO 4TB 1x SP XS70 4TB.

Keep in mind this problem never occured on W10/(yes on 11 because of gigabyte 's realtek ethernet driver ,my speeds were never fully achieved there on steam ,yes on everything else) on 11 with this setup I reach near max speed since I assume a combination of intel's ethernet chip and NTFS just doesn't hit the 990 pros as hard as BTRFS and Linux did.

To cut my terrible rambling short,it seems that because you cannot calibrate the block size on Samsung consumer SSDs (I've used the 980 pros 2tb And now these 990 pros) and is therefore stuck on 512B on BTRFS instead of being able to format said drive to 4K block size ,paired with CoW this causes steam to not be able to fully utilise the I/O at hand ,keep in mind that the Motherboards I've had have been able to drive all of these drives at their full speeds since there were enough pcie lanes available to do so. Before I got the 9070xt I upgraded to the Asus motherboard as the gigabyte one refused to boot and took longer and longer to mem train with each boot up,still ,once I switched ,today,to ext4 on the 990 pro 4TB and XS70 4TB ,the full download speed was able to be achieved.

Hi! As the title says, I'd like to play Star Wars battlerfont 2 (2017) but after some unsuccessful tries, I started steam from the CLI and started the game there. After some time I got the following output in the terminal which I think may be the reason why it's not able to start:

I'm wondering if this is Linux specific or game specific? Something that bugs me is how unstabe shadows seem to be. They move and kind of float/flow. Its helped with no upscaling but can still be seen in certain lighting. HDR on/off same results. I see this when looking out at bushes ect. Also seen on weapons. Anyone else? Playing on a 7900xt/7800x3d on Cachy os with Mesa 25.1

I am currently using Windows 11 and Ubuntu in parallel on 2 different SSDs, I just setup honker railway launcher today and it has been working smoothly. However, I have the root folder of HSR on another SSD that Hoyoplay on Windows 11 has installed. Can I change the Honker game folder path to the other SSD using the command on Honker's wiki page? I also want to ask this question for Genshin launcher because the SSD containing Genshin and HSR is faster than the SSD currently installed with Ubuntu

TLDR: Wyrd Waters is a 2-8 player online multiplayer fantasy naval game. We wanted to make a game where friends didn't get left out so we made it on Mac, Linux, Windows and SteamDeck! :D
It's mythological, tactical and quick/easy to pick up.

Our Demo just got released on Steam if you want to try a bite-size version! I'll link it below. And let us know if you find any bugs, it has been especially difficult to find Linux testers hahah.
