The games I find OK, but miss the third-party apps, any tips?
the current game I'm playing is Hearthstone which runs great via Lutris, but I miss my deck tracker. Is it possible to get those working? I used to use Overwolf but any tracker would do.
Similar for Path of Exile, i'm not playing right now but there was millions of third party apps requried to play.
Does anyone have any experience to share in this department? I'm fairly new to Linux running Fedora 41 with a 4070ti super

Heavy (abnormal) CPU bottleneck on specific games & situations
Hi, I've been playing on linux for a few years now, on Nobara. I recently transitioned to Arch. Using a i7 13700kf + 2080 Ti + 64GB RAM
I noticed on two specific games, and in specific situations, that I get VERY poor performance (20ish fps): the reason is that the CPU usage gets at almost 100% (every performance core/thread is at ~95% usage), so the GPU has no time to calculate the frames. In these situations, GPU usage drops from full 100% to nearly ~25%
The specific situations are:
- On Satisfactory, when loading an end-game map, all the factory updates takes forever (if I disable power in my factory, I get 120 fps back)
- In Void Crew, in combat situation, when looking at a lot of enemies (when the enemies disappear, the fps are back)
I think that the issues are related, since the symptom is the same, and I get very similar sound stutter too when the performance drops.
I checked both cases on windows, everything runs smoothly (GPU at 100% usage). Performance mode is on, I run the games with gamemode, I tested serveral versions of Proton and ProtonGE. Am I missing some configuration or something ?

SteamClip, a little program to convert Steam Clips to mp4 Files
I just released a little BASH script that handles the conversion of Clips made with Steam Recording to mp4 files for you. It's completely opensource and you can download it from GitHub right now!
ReadMe from Github:
SteamClip - Steam Recording to MP4 Converter
SteamClip is a simple BASH script that allows you to convert Steam game recordings into .mp4 files.
WHY
Steam uses m4s file format for video and audio that then are layered in a single video output.
Exporting to mp4 from Steam itself is possible, but that leads to heavy visual artifacts in my testing.
Those artifacts are not present when using ffmpeg to convert m4s files to mp4 (or other formats)
I made this script just to be able to save non glitchy .mp4 clips and share them to my phone via Kde connect, especially clips longer than 1 minute
FEATURES
- Converts Steam recordings to MP4 format.
- Easy to use, with a simple user interface.
- Works by selecting the clip via an interactive prompt.
- Saves the final converted file to the Desktop.
INSTALLATION
- Download or clone the repository.
- Place the SteamClip.sh file in any directory.
- Grant execution permissions:
chmod +x SteamClip.sh
USAGE
- Run the script by double clicking it If you have multiple Steam profiles, the script will ask you to select the correct SteamID.
- After selecting the SteamID, an available list of clips will be shown.
- Select a clip and an interactive preview will be displayed.
- Confirm and the script will convert the clip to an MP4 file. The converted file will be saved to your Desktop.
REQUIREMENTS
- Linux (Tested on SteamOS and Bazzite).
- ffmpeg (Make sure it is installed):
- sudo apt install ffmpeg # On Ubuntu/Debian
- sudo dnf install ffmpeg # On Fedora
- sudo pacman -S ffmpeg # On Arch
- kdialog for dialog boxes (usually pre-installed on KDE environments, but can be installed if necessary):
- sudo apt install kdialog # On Ubuntu/Debian
- sudo dnf install kdialog # On Fedora
- sudo pacman -S kdialog #On Arch
- Steam installed with recordings in the default folder ~/.local/share/Steam/userdata//gamerecordings/clips.

Just switched need help with functionality issues
Before anyone says "Just use r/linux4noobs; I already tried that, lazy moderators just keep letting the bot delete my posts with no explanation so this is my next step please help!"
I just made the jump to linux mint and I need some bugs in the system worked out and I'm not sure what to do:
- Bluetooth devices do not auto connect even though they are on and paired, its a little annoying to have to do that manually everytime
- Keyboard not connected on startup. For some reason the system doesnt recognize I have any keyboard plugged in and it has no power going to it until i unplug it and plug it back in.
- Can access external hard drive: I began restoring my game backups now today I cant even use my external hard drive and I keep getting the error: "Failed to mount drive. Error mounting /dev/sda2/media/null-user/ Drive: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, on /dev/sda2, missing codepage or helper program or other error"
- Inconsistent shortkey functionality: for some reason I can only do things like copy-paste through the hot key commands instead of mouse like 50% of the time

USB4 to HDMI 2.1?
I’m currently planning on setting up a mini PC with Bazzite as an HTPC, mostly for cloud gaming via Moonlight.
My original goal was 4K120 with HDR, VRR, and if possible HDMI CEC, which is 100% attainable over HDMI 2.1. Problem is, it’s not supported in AMD drivers and I really don’t want to spend double the money just to get an intel mini PC with Iris XE.
I found a mini PC that supports USB4 for 8k video, and there appears to be HDMI 2.1 to USB4 cables out there in the wild, I’m wanting to know if this is a viable option, or if there’s any other solutions I should seek.
The mini PC also does have an HDMI 2.1 port if there is some weird way to get it functional on Linux

Are gamescope, mangohud and gamemode still relevant?
Hi everyone, I'm trying to keep me update with the latest softwares for linux gaming. Last time I had to use gamescope for HDR, mangohud to set an fps limit to my games (essential for a fluid VRR experience) and gamemode for cpu priority/power management.
The resulting launch options for my average steam game are:
gamemoderun mangohud gamescope -f --hdr-enabled %command%
(this sucks btw)
Anything else I should add or remove that is highly recommended or essential? I'm playing on Arch
I sadly can't get my Xbox Controller dongle adapter to work, tried with both xone (with its 6.12 fix branches too) and xpadneo, the light on the adapter never turns on, I can use my controller via bluetooth just fine though.

Linux Gaming: A Spotlight on Luxtorpeda Compatibility for older games
Should I use a VM or apps?
I recently switched from win11 to Ubuntu but most of my games are on Xbox gamepass or epic games... While I can play a good portion of my games on steam I still need a solution for those windows only games, so should I just install windows on a vm or should I use an app like bottles?

Linux gaming is great, except modding. Any advice?
Hello, I have been solely on Linux for about a year now. I tried gaming on Linux about a decade ago and it was pretty rough. I was impressed by how easy and user friendly it had become when I came back. I am using Ubuntu with Steam for all of my games and it has been mostly seamless.
While modding games with the Steam Workshop has been OK, I really want to mod Fallout New Vegas, but all of the guides I see to get it working on Linux seem extremely complicated. Back on Windows, I used Vortex and it was a few simple clicks. What is the most straightforward way to mod Fallout New Vegas on Linux?
I tried watching Michael Horn's tutorial but it was above my head. I had never even heard of bottles or Flatpak before this video.

Witcher 1 Steam on Arch doesn't launch on any available proton version
Hey guys, I'm a noob who uses Arch Linux as a daily driver.
I wanted to know how to make WItcher 1 steam work, it's installed but it doesn't launch on any proton version. There are so many posts on the topic that I got lost, so if any kind soul who deliver a solution that works immediately, I'd gladly cast the benediction of the forefathers and mother creatrix on them. Thank you

Dragon Ball FighterZ Dark Screen
Help! I've been trying to fix this issue for what it feels like years now, and there's still no solid solution that I found.
Neofetch/SpecsThis is what it echoes when I enter neofetch.
What happensWhen I click the play button on heroic, in a few moments the launcher pops up. (Not EAC)
After that, a dark screen pops up and just disappears.
Tried solutionsTried Proton-GE versions:
- 7-20
- 7-37
- 5.6-GE-2
- 6.5-GE-2
- 8-25
None worked.
Using different wine versions produced similar results but still doesn't work.
- wine-9.0
- GE-8-26
I didn't try more wine versions because proton-GE worked better for most people.
Tried Environment Variables:
- WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR = 1
- hidewineexports = enable
- vblank_mode = 0
Still, nothing worked.
I messed around with the wine and other settings for the game, still doesn't work.
Current settings:
wine settings (i also used winecfg)
I downloaded dependancies, via winetricks and protontricks, still didn't work. I also downloaded them manually by running the EXE/MSI file
Nothing seemed to be working. Here are the logs with the current settings:

Kde Dolphin Context Menu Addon "Add to Steam" for every pc
Can you explain me in simple words why some games run native on Linux while others don't?
I'm not really tech savvy, I know that maybe it's a matter of different "libraries" (?) but I'm not even sure on that front. Googling this question didn't really help me understand the issue at hand.
Maybe you lot can satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks.

Genshin Impact/Honkai: Star Rail frequently freezes on Arch Linux + Plasma 6 + X11
I think my situation is a little bit more complex than others', but I will explain it as detailed as possible. Anyways, I'm very sorry for my bad English.
I'm using Arch Linux with KDE Plasma 6 and X11 as my daily driver. Everything works flawlessly except for the fact that Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail just freeze randomly while I'm playing, with little to no indications before they do.
The game audio is still playing, but the game screen isn't and I can't click anything. I can't even close the game by using Alt+F4, and I have to force close it by using killall command.
In Genshin Impact it's the same. I don't know if only HoYogames are like this or it occurs in all Unity/other games on Linux.
I don't know all of the ways to log the issues, but here's some logs file the computer generated using some ways that I knew:
- WINE output logs with WINEDEBUG=warn+all. Due to the file being enormously huge (5.0 MB with 31952 lines), I only show some last lines around the time of freezing.
- Logs from journalctl -f from the time of starting the game to the moment when it froze. Some lines from irrelevant apps are removed.
- Logs from /var/log/Xorg.0.log
If you need any other logs just tell me, I'll do and upload them here!
The issue only happens when I use X11, on Wayland it doesn't happen. However I can't switch to Wayland due to a little complex situation: I also often let my friends connect to my computer through Steam Remote Play to play those two games, and in Wayland it requires me to allow the remote control requests EVERYTIME they connect to my computer. There's no Allow restoring on future sessions option or how to disable it. Also the KWin sometimes just likes to slow down my computer if it runs on Wayland.
So I want to try these two approaches:
- Fix the freezing issues currently happening when running on X11,
- or switch to Wayland, try to disable the "Remote control requested" popups and always allow my friends to control my computer.
I only play those two games, whether other games are playable or not isn't important for me. Besides this issue I'm totally satisfied with my Linux setup; I don't want to switch to Windows (because I don't like Windows and it had some serious errors on my end), and I only consider reinstalling/switching to another distro as the last resorts. I installed too many softwares so it will take so much time to reinstall everything, and I want to try everything else first.
What I tried to fix the issue:
- Switch to another WINE version, from wine-ge to ge-proton and even the system WINE
- Reinstall all packages using Pacman
- Switch to various Linux kernels, even the original 6.12.7-arch1-1 and the zen ones.
- Install various NVIDIA drivers
- Disable KWin compositing when running the game
- Reset all Xorg configurations (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d and in my user folder)
- Change some configs related to NVIDIA graphics card (which none of them worked and I rolled back my changes)
None of those worked. I tried searching Google and even used ChatGPT but to no avail.
Computer specifications:
- Laptop: Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-57-5669)
- CPU: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11400H @ 2.70 GHz
- RAM: 16.0 GB
- GPU: Intel TigerLake-H GT1 [UHD Graphics] (with mesa 24.3.2-1) / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (with nvidia 565.77)
- Kernel: 6.12.7-arch1-1
- DE: Plasma 6.2.5
- WM: KWin with X11
- OpenGL (GLX) info
- Vulkan info
- KWin info
- Xserver info
This post is quite long but I'll be very glad if anyone can give me a solution. Thank all of you so much, I appreciate all of your help!
