Just venting about my Gamescope frustrations.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 6:31pm

Hey everyone, this is more of a rant than a request for help, because at this point I honestly don’t expect to fix anything.

I’ve been dealing with a really frustrating issue that seems to pop up in several games I play. The bug happens on both Wayland and Xorg, so it’s not specific to one display server.

One of the main culprits seems to be Sober Runtime (yea i like to play some games sorry), where I’ve never really been able to fix it. But the problem isn’t limited to that.. other games have been affected too, and sometimes I feel like I literally bought the games for nothing, because in the end I can’t even play them with Gamescope.

I’ve tried every parameter related to mouse grabbing, but none of them work properly. Sometimes they work partially, sometimes only temporarily, and sometimes they even make things worse. Oddly enough, some games don’t have this bug at all, like WorldBox, Among Us, and a few others, because they don’t lock the mouse.

My original goal was simple: just to lower the resolution in heavier games to reduce bottlenecks. I wasn’t using it constantly in games like WorldBox or Among Us, sometimes just for upscaling.

At this point, I think this may be one of the reasons I’m seriously considering going back to Windows… because at least there I could play my games without dealing with this kind of nonsense.

But, even I have said that I don't expect for fixes, I wouls like if anyone could give me a tip or anything else.

Edit: I'm using Fedora LXQt, but I were using Fedora Workstation and Fedora KDE before.

Steam won't launch games anymore

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 6:28pm

I installed PopOS 24.04 LTS to play games and run Nvidia Issac Sim and ROS for personal projects.

All games would launch flawlessly before but suddenly they stopped working: When I click the 'play' button it says it is launching and then goes back to 'play', I am pretty sure the games never launch. I recently also installed HOMM3 using lutris and wine and managed to get that to run.

Prior troubleshooting steps
- I installed steam with the .deb file, but I tried the flatpak version and had the same issue.
- I reinstalled my games on an etx4 drive (they were on ntfs) and it still doesn't work
- I tried to apt update/upgrade and it still doesn't work.

Please don't tell me to install Fedora or CachyOS.

Here is my nvidia-smi

AMD's FSR & Software not ran using Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 6:24pm

Can AMD FSR be used on Linux apps (Flatpak, specifically) that aren’t running through Proton? If yes, how to make use of it? I have no idea how to use features like... the one that's similar to DLSS. I guess it is called FSR upscaling. 😅

Atomic Heart not starting

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 6:15pm

Specs:

T14 gen 2

R7 5850u

32 GB RAM 3200 (dual channel)

512 GB NVME (Only 260 for the Linux partition)

So, a few days ago I created a dual boot on Linux Mint to separate my work from my personal life.

I've already tested some games and managed to get them running normally.

For example, Beyond: Two Souls, satisfactory, and another one that I don't remember.

Then I decided to download Atomic Heart to play on my notebook and it "started" normally running on Proton 10, but after a few seconds it simply shut down my notebook.

This had already happened before with Two Souls, so I tested the ideal Protons to run it and managed to do it without problems.

The problem is that after that my Mint started showing some errors, simply shutting down by itself, sometimes the screen going black and freezing the system simply by restarting the device.

I ended up fixing it. The GRUB boot menu uses the AMD drivers and that problem has stopped; it's not shutting down on its own or anything like that.

But now, regardless of which Proton I try to launch through Steam, Atomic Heart simply doesn't appear. Steam indicates that it tried to launch, then the Start button reappears.

At the same time, I can still play other games, like Satisfactory, which still opens normally.

Fix for Gnome fractional scaling whilst gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 6:04pm

So, I've had two 4K displays on my desktop for some time and the one thing that drives me crazy if I enabled Gnome's fractional scaling, to say 125% to make it bearable on the desktop it then runs games in a crazy native resolution e.g. 6144 x 3456 - which is 4K divided by the scale (1.25) and then times by 2 - not sure why!

125% scaling and weird resolutions

It seems to be down to XWayland, as when I run using Proton-GE and force Wayland using PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 the issue isn't present.

Which got me looking at the scaling options for XWayland. Turns out if I set xwayland-scaling-factor to the same scale (1.25) now my games only go up to my native resolution.

125% scaling but no weird resolutions

Low fps and fps instability on linux, compared to windows.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 Mar 2026 - 4:58pm

My specs:
GPU - 9060 xt 16gb
CPU - ryzen 9 5900xt
RAM - 48gb - 2 16gb + 2 8gb - running at 2666mhz because that's the max my processor takes at 4 sticks of ram, with just 32gb it gets up to 3200mhz
Got plenty of storage too and plenty to spare (4.2tb)
Fedora KDE 43 on dual boot with W11, tried with mint too, my previous distro of choice. I didn't adapt well to CachyOS so didn't even try it with these games.

I noticed that in two games specifically, my fps just absolutely FAINTS compared to W11:
Cities Skylines 1
Path of Titans

In Path of Titans i managed to narrow down the main culprits to be shadows and animation quality in the game settings, which makes the game considerably look worse. Fps and stability still considerably lower than windows 11, but lowering these two settings helped.
In Cities Skylines 1 i didn't really mess with the settings, but i've begun to notice severe frame drops on my 8k people city, which should not happen. In the past i got a fully maxed out vanilla city, including squares, every single inch of it built upon, on a significantly worse configuration (i5 9600kf - 32gb of ram at 2666mhz- 1050 ti) but on windows 10 at the time.

My guess would be the proton version i'm using or just some other thing, any guesses or help?
