Hello Everyone,

I am new to the whole Linux Gaming thing and need your advice.

My current PC Setup is a Intel i5 6600K and a GTX970 and as this hardware is aproaching the Windows 10 EOL cycle i thought i tip my toes into Linux Gaming with a new setup.

This is the Setup i was looking at for my new PC.

Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming

RAM: 64 GB DDR5-6000

CPU: AMD Ryzen9 9900X

Graphicscard: Radeon RX 7800 XT Gaming OC 16 GB

Please give me a little bit of help if this setup runs kind of smooth on linux.

I am looking at playing titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher III, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Medieval Dynasty, Valheim, and more ....

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Let me know if i forgot any important Info.

The Forest crashing on startup, sometimes crashes Steam aswell.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 12:10pm

What it says on the tin. The Forest continually crashes on startup, and sometimes even manages to crash Steam. I have tried to reboot my PC, switching proton versions, reinstalling drivers, redownloading the game, verifying game files, setting different launch options, nothing has worked. Any advice?

Suddenly terrible performance on games launched with Heroic Launcher

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 10:28am

I'm running Fedora 41, AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop (no other GPU present), Nvidia driver version 570.86.16 (I checked, that it's really running the nvidia driver and not nouveou).

I'm using Heroic to play games from GoG, which used to run fine. I didn't change any configurations (apart from the regular system updates and automatic updates to Heroic), and from one day to another, games that ran really well now run terrible.

For example, Shadow of Mordor used to run with 100fps, now it's down to 2-5 seconds per frame.

I installed Bioshock 1 Remastered only after this issue started, but it's an ancient game and should run really well, but it too is down to ~10fps in the main menu and 2-5 seconds per frame in game.

The weird thing is that the game seems to run normally, but the display is lagging behind. So for example in the opening scene of Bioshock, the display still shows me diving underwater, trying to get to the surface, but if I press the space key, I can hear my character jump with no delay. Audio doesn't stutter and plays on like it should.

I tried switching between Wine-GE and Proton-GE (trying latest and a few other versions) without any change.

I only have a dGPU in this laptop, so the issue can't be that it's using the iGPU.

Do you have an idea what could be the issue?

Edit: Render videos (e.g. the smoking-in-the-airplane scene in the beginning of Bioshock) run just fine. I get full speed there (40fs in case of this one video).

[Mint 22] KBM Input causing Stutter in Marvel Rivals after playing for a little

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 9:52am

Runs fine when using controller

I'm not sure what's going on at all, I've tried everything from switching from Proton 9 to Experimental, Followed a guide online that was for Steam Deck about renaming the Windows Powershell exe to something else, I just don't know what's causing this, I've had issues with this game on windows however it wasn't like this. This is the only game on my PC that has this kind of issue. The game works fine for a bit but then out of nowhere it stutters like hell! But strange enough whenever I plug in a controller for the game, it starts running perfectly fine? But then I switch back to my Keyboard and Mouse then it goes to poop again when I put any input. Haven't tried using GE-Proton yet however I feel like this won't fix my issue... Is there perhaps a Launch Command I need for Steam to avoid this issue?

Force a keyboard layout for a game

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 8:11am

Hello, I recently purchased Halo Spartan Assault and the game won't let me change my keys from QWERTY to AZERTY. Do you have a solution to force the layout change? I tried changing it in Linux Mint, I tried remapping with xmodmap, changing something in the registry and it didn't change anything.

Thank you for your help.

P.S.: If the tag doesn't fit this post, please let me know and I'll change it.

Has anyone had this issue? My games don't make good use of VRAM

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 7:24am

This issue started about two months ago. Resident Evil 4 Remake doesn't recognize my 8GB of VRAM.

I just bought RDR2 during the Steam sale, and it's showing the same behavior as RE4R. In RDR2, the game detects the total amount of VRAM but doesn't seem to use it properly. In the third screenshot, you can see the red warning about VRAM. In the last image, with the Task Manager open, you can check the VRAM usage while playing RDR2.

This problem is causing low FPS and stuttering in both games.

I'm using Proton 9.04 for both games. I've already tried repairing, reinstalling, and switching Proton versions, but the issue persists. My system is Fedora 41 with Gnome.

Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Is PRIME just generally better for gaming on hybird laptops?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Mar 2025 - 7:22am

Currently I have a Acer Predator Helios 300, a 3070 Mobile GPU and a Intel TigerLake-H GT1 IGPU. However in plenty of games, some that arnt triple A too, FPS is bad, like 15-25, I see some people enabling PRIME, I usually run my games on my second monitor, (not sure if thats relevent but i had weird gpu issues with that in the past), and I just want to know if I will have better luck with gaming by setting up PRIME?
