Nvidia 5070ti - new build, single digit FPS
I just built a new PC with PopOS and Nvidia 5070ti and in GW2, I used to get over 100+ FPS just standing still.
Now, I get 1-9 FPS and cannot figure out what exactly is going on.

Mint and Radeon 9070
Hey,
Iam using Mint for quite some time now on my old laptop and I think its a great OS for everyday use. That beeing sad, mint uses old linux Kernels. I want to build a gaming pc and I want to stay with Mint for it, but the new AMD gpus are...new - do I need a an OS with a more up to date kernel?
Cheers

Input overlay plugin OBS
I'm trying to make it work in a window manager.
I'm using the AUR package, everything is here, I can add the input overlay in sources. But when I press inputs, the plugin doesn't react.
Did anyone made it work with Hyprland or Sway?

Can't set refresh rate over 120hz only when using HDMI
I'm using Fedora 41 on my laptop with AMD iGPU and Nvidia dGPU. When I connect my external 1080p 180hz monitor via DP, everything works as it should. But when I connect it via HDMi, the maximum refresh rate I can set is 120hz. When I choose 180hz and apply, screen goes black and returns to 120hz afterwards. This doesn't happen on Windows 11 with the same cables and connected ports, only on Linux. I would benefit from extra free USB-C port on my laptop if I used HDMI instead of DP via USB-C.
I'm aware of HDMI closed source problems related to AMD GPUs, but in my case, it's not working even when I set my laptop to use Nvidia GPU for external displays. Any help would be much appreciated.

Switching from win 10 to bazzite
Hi there folks! ATM I have a win 10 desktop with 3 HDD formatted in ntfs. Drives D and E contain various games from steam gog epic and so on.
But I really want to say good bye to gaming on windows. My office laptop runs mint for some time now and I love it.
So if I install bazzite on Drive C exclusively does it later on can access the games on the ntfs drives from steam etc. or do I have to formate them as well and install/download all games again?
What would be wise to do?
Thanks for your insights in advance and Have a nice weekend!

Is it okay to dual boot?
I know that a while back windows had that update that made it a hassle to dual boot with linux. I was wondering if that was fixed or still broken. My main distro is linux mint and want to dual boot windows because they have applications I'm having trouble running on linux. I plan to use a separate SSD to dual boot is that fine? And do I switch to windows 11 or use windows 10 instead?

Avoid AMD rewards if you can
You have to download a "Verification tool" and your hardware has to be plugged in and turned on so that this random download can "scan" your hardware. Mine will not detect my brand new GPU.
Some people have had success with support but they asked for my redeemable code 3 times didn't belive me when i forwarded them the email from the Canadian retailer and actually blocked my email.
Don't count on the promotion for free games when shopping for AMD parts

Unable to launch Witcher3/REDlauncher due to weird OpenGL error
Hi everyone, I just installed Witcher 3 through Steam with Proton Experimental and failed to launch it due to this error:
"Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption::QFlagsSurfaceFormat::FormatOption(1), depthBufferSize:24, redBufferSize:8, greenBufferSize:8, blueBufferSize:8, alphaBufferSize:8, stencilBufferSize:8, samples:0, swapBehavior:QSurfaceFormat::DefaultSwapBehavior, swapInterval:1, colorSpace QSurfaceFormat::DefaultColorSpace, profile QSurfaceFormat::NoProfile). This is most likely caused by not having the necessary graphics drivers installed.
Install a driver providing OpenGL 2.0 or higher, or, if this is not possible, make sure the ANGLE Open GL ES 2.0 emulation libraries (libEGL.dll, libGLESv2.dll and d3dcompiler_*.dll) are available in the application executable's directory or in a location listed in PATH."
My system is Fedora 41 on 6.13.6-200.fc41.x86_64 kernel with an Intel chip and RTX 4070. The Nvidia driver i am using is at version 570.124.06, which was installed alongside CUDA (nvcc).
I managed to get it run with "gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip".
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what happened without --launcher-skip and if this option will negatively impact performance in any way. Thank you.

vesktop freezing, glitching, really poor quality stream.
Hi guys, I am using Manjaro linux with Linux 6.6, Plasma 6.
I'm having trouble with discord screen sharing (Vesktop).
Sometimes my stream freezes, sometimes it gitchas, sometimes it looks terrible, and sometimes people see black until I move something.
I downloaded and installed the graphics card drivers, I've used a bunch of clients, and vesktop is pretty close to my ideal solution.
Do you know of any other clients or solutions to this?

PhysX on Linux. RTX 5090 and older NVIDIA GPU as PhysX accelerator possible on Linux?
So I mainly play older games such as Mirror's Edge and AC4 Black Flag. I love these games to death. Still play Black Flag almost every week.
With the recent news about NVIDIA dropping 32-bit CUDA support thus killing PhsyX in 32-bit games, I was wondering something. It also stemmed from watching Gamers Nexus video about PhysX:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4w_aObRzCc
In which they recommend getting an older NVIDIA GPU as an accelerator for PhsyX. So an RTX 5090 and a GTX 980 for example.
I was wondering, would a setup like this work on Linux with NVIDIA proprietary drivers? If so, how?
Or perhaps the drivers would need to be the same one, and support the same GPUs, something like a 5090 and RTX 3050, instead of an older legacy card like 980? Since they would both be using the same driver version instead of two drivers for each GPU. (Something I'm guessing would make it even more complicated on Linux)
What about nvidia driver vs nvidia-open driver? (Not talking about Nouveau or NVK)
Would Wayland vs X11 affect things?
What about the kernel version?
Also, on that note. Does PhysX even work with NVK or Mesa?
Another question.
Would an NVIDIA GPU as a second PhsyX accelerator GPU work in conjuction with an AMD/Intel GPU using Mesa as the primary GPU? Is such a thing even possible?
I'm wondering if I can use my Arc A750 as my main GPU, and get a RTX 3050 as PhysX accelerator.
Just to be clear, I do not have a 50 series card nor do I ever plan on getting one, especially after these news. But this made me curious as I mainly player older games.

Marvel Rivals Keeps Crashing (Post-Patch) URGENT
After this recent patch, I've been crashing whenever I open up Marvel Rivals. The load in works relatively smoothly, and the little animation plays, but then the game crashes. I can't click on anything else. Below is an image of what I see before the game crashes. This has been happening ever since yesterdays update, and the "patch" that was supposed to fix the crashes didn't fix it at all. I can't even play the game anymore, and it's driving me craycray. Any help would be appreciated...
Here are my specs:
RTX 3080 Ti
Intel Core i7 12th Gen
Asus Rog Strix 1000W Gold Aura Edition
2 TB SSD
2x - 8 GB HyperX RAM
