I'm having an issue getting proper HDR from Alan Wake 2. I can enable under Wayland. But black levels are raised and highlights are dimmed. Cant seem to even get it to activate under gamescope and after investigation, no games work with HDR under gamescope atm. Anyone else having luck with Alan Wake 2 looking good? SDR is substantially more pleasing to the eyes. Colors pop more and highlights are far brighter (especially the sunshine)Iv played through this game on HDR before (W11) so i know that this is not intended and is broken. I'm on Cachy os with latest KDE ands Mesa.

I’m running Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Noble Numbat) with GNOME 46 on Wayland. My system:

Kernel: 6.14.0-35-generic

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, 12-core

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (amdgpu, Mesa 25.0.7)

Wayland session

Drivers: amdgpu, radeonsi for OpenGL/Vulkan

Setup:

• Steam Snap installed, games no longer working as of today.
• Tried installing Steam Deb from Ubuntu App Store; Steam Deb fails to launch after the login screen. Steam Snap remains installed because Deb never fully works.
• Heroic Launcher games also crash, even without Steam running.

Problem / crash behavior:

• Games (Steam Proton, Heroic/Wine) start: Wine splash screen appears (when starting from heroic)
• Shortly after, the entire GNOME session terminates. I am forcibly logged out to the GDM login screen.
• The crash happens consistently across multiple games (e.g., Diablo 4 crashes, hades 2 crashes, hearthstone crashes (when laucnhed from battle.net running on proton in via steam)).
• Tried launching Steam Deb without Steam Snap running: Steam Deb still does not launch.
• Timeshift restore to a point where games previously worked does not fix the issue.

What I’ve tried / observed:

• Steam Snap and Steam Deb cannot coexist reliably; Steam Deb fails regardless of Snap presence.
• Wine/Proton logs can be generated using PROTON_LOG=1, but session crash prevents consistent log capture.
• The crash is a session-level crash, not just a game crash. GNOME Shell quits and I am returned to GDM.

Games used to run fine yesterday, but now crash my desktop and log me out. After a crash, relaunching the game fails until a reboot, which leads to the same forced logout.

Does anyone have ideas for what I can try? I’m considering reinstalling Ubuntu or switching to Mint as a nuclear option.

Hey everyone, I've been looking to get back into Linux considering Windows just keeps getting...worse. Most of the time I am just using my Steam Deck, Steam Deck Moonlighting into my Desktop, or the Desktop as mainly a gaming machine anyways.

I've been getting a bit lost in the distros and what exactly are pros and cons for each and to decide a few to try out. My top three things would be:

1. Works with Nvidia, as my 4090 is going to be difficult to replace.
   
2. A console display akin to SteamOS, having a desktop as backup.
   
3. Preferably user friendly.

The distro's I've run across and just not understanding at this time are ChimeraOS, Bazzite, Nobara. But not entirely sure what would land best as I keep reading that some of these are AMD friendly only, but those posts being 2 years ago etc.

I've basically used Windows my whole life, from 95 to 11. But recently, due to a certain update, my power supply got cooked for some reason. It's not the first time I've had to replace hardware thanks to Windows screwing me over. The power supply was the last straw. I'm seriously considering installing Linux when I get my new PSU. So, do you have any suggestions? Note: I primarily use my computer for gaming, and I'm not well-versed in technical matters. So, I'm a complete newbie

I have noticed that the rumble/forcefeedback in silksong is quite weak on both normal and weak rumble modes, much weaker than the controller is capable of. Is there a way to fix this or are there any apps i can use for controllers to boost rumble ingame? im running the gog version through lutris, but i have tried to add it to steam as a nonsteam game and same problem, plus steam does not seem to offer any settings for rumble apart from turning it on.

Attempting to switfch from Windows to Linux (CachyOS, KDE Plasma w/ Wayland). For the most part it's working great. One issue I'm seeing consistently is my monitor's resolution (3400x1440p) being missing in multiple games in which I could usually select it. I've tested 3 games so far.

FFXIV: I'm also using XIVLauncher. I eventually got this fixed by selecting an option to enable an experimental Wayland Driver for Wine. Then the correct resolutions showed up.

Max Payne: What I'm currently playing at the time of this switch. It's an old game so not a big deal really, but I was able to choose my native resolution on Windows after installing a community fix. Can't do that here (although installing the fix does appear to be working otherwise).

Cyberpunk 2077: Wanted to test this as something more demanding, but again my monitors native res is missing.

Any ideas what I should be looking for here? I figured it was more of a game by game basis but so far I'm 3/3 which got me curious.

Edit: As another user suggested it's definitely an issue of it pulling resolutions from the wrong monitor. I unplugged my other monitor and then all my resolution options were correct. Plugged it back in and I got the wrong ones again. Not sure how to solve this part though.

Some games are having weird framerate rendering issues where it shows I'm running at a high framerate, but it's actually rendering only at around 50 FPS or less (Usually around 30), and it's noticeable. Some games have this issue (Satisfactory, Foxhole,) and others don't. In addition to the FPS rendering, these games also have slightly delayed mouse input, so its overall a shitty experience.

currently in the phase of planning to move to Linux, trying to find official and unofficial software for my peripherals. the only thing i couldn't find a software for is my Vader 4 controller, i know it will work on Linux because it essentially works as xinput controller, but I'll lose all custom features without the software.

anybody else found a workaround?

I’ve seen huge progress with Proton, Wine, and native ports, but I’m wondering how close Linux gaming really is to replacing Windows completely. Do most of your games run out of the box now, or do you still hit random crashes, anti-cheat issues, or missing features? What tweaks or tools made gaming smooth for you on Linux, and what’s still holding it back from being perfect?

Hi guys. I was recently gifted a Dell Optiplex 7010. It came with 8GB memory and a gt730. All I plan on using it for is fightcade and maybe older 2010 gaming plus emulation since I don't care about modern games. My friend wiped the drive so I can make it my little project. He suggested Kubuntu for gaming since it's easier to mod games with and it feels intuitive. Anything I should consider before I commit to Kubuntu?

So whenever I change the time delay for slots in a button, the time resets back to 0.10s whenever I exit the Advanced window. Don't even have the time to save, it changes as soon as I'm done. Cycle Reset is fine, it's just the delay for some reason. Anyone know what's wrong?

Hi all, I’m having an issue where my cursor can be on both of my monitors at the same time (half on one half on the other). If I click when it’s in this position, it alt tabs to the monitor on the left (my secondary one), and minimizes/I lose control of the game on my primary display. I’ve tried setting the games to exclusive full screen, borderless, cycled all the options. It’s not game specific, this happens when on the system desktop, it just doesn’t affect me then as much. The issue doesn’t appear on windows. Info: -Fedora 43 gnome (issue was present on 42 as well) -Primary display 1080p 260hz -Secondary display 1080p 60hz (supposedly an issue with Wayland not being able to handle th different refresh rates) -AMD 9070xt

Hopefully this qualifies as useful tech request, I was unable to find a fix for my issue online

Pretty much title. There are some glitches that annoy me due to game logic being tied to framerate sometimes. Is there any way to cap the game to 30 internally but have lsfg-vk scale the shown fps to 60?

Has anyone tried this? What solution did you end up with?

comprei um controle replica de ps4 para jogar no linux mint. consegui conectar o controle via bluetooth mas a luz ficou branca e eu não consegui usar ele em si. tentei o chatgpt e o gemini para solucionar mas nada deu certo. quando conecto via usb ele funciona, mas queria usar a função sem fio. obs sem fio ele funciona no ios e android. nao testei em pc com windows.

So yesterday, I decided to change my hertz rate because it was 60 hz and my monitor could go up to 120 hz, but when I changed it, nothing changed and all my games just became laggier. When I tried to change it, I found out that my refresh rate was still 60 hz and I could now not change a single thing for my display settings! Can someone help me out?
