Sympathy for the Multiplayers on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 6:26pm

First of all, I hate multiplayer. I loved LAN parties back in the day (Quake 3, UT and MoH), but online multiplayer has pretty much sucked for me since WoW came out. PUGs were always a hassle, guildies were frequently indifferent to my needs (even if I helped them with theirs), and I tried MOBAs for about a week before deciding they're boring for me. To say nothing of the cheating which pushed KLAC in the first place. I just don't like it, and I'm really really happy with single player life on Linux.

If you're still reading, then I started this post to say that I feel for the people who want to play the games they want to play and cannot because almost all the multiplayer dev houses appear to be raging assholes who see Linux as nothing but a cheat vector instead of a platform that is gaining momentum due to Valve and the Steam Deck. I can easily see the possibility of game devs in general moving to shut out Linux as a platform if the install base doesn't continue to grow.

So even though I don't personally care that your multiplayer games were cut off from Linux, I still appreciate what that could mean for Linux gaming in general, and I think we should stick it to these houses in as many ways that impact their bottom lines as possible, and get the message through that unless they treat Linux as a viable install platform for their games, they'll continue to feel the pain.

Solidarity, brothers and sisters!

Minecraft Shaders low FPS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 5:32pm

Hi,

I just installed Minecraft shaders (complementary shader with IRIS and Sodium on Fabric(API))

My specs are:

Ryzen 3800X, RTX 2070, 1440p@165Hz 32GB RAM

archlinux 6.11.3-arch1-1 with NVIDIA 560.35.03

At the moment I am running Minecraft 1.21.1.

Render distance is 32 chunks but that does not make that big of a difference when changing.

I am wondering if i missed something while optimizing because I get between 58 and 110FPS which feels a bit low.

Maybe I am wrong and need to upgrade my GPU...

Do you have any recommendations or some benchmark results to compare that with

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 5:21pm

I tried to install bazzite on an asus laptop(g14 2022) in order to have a portable "console", but with no success.

I installed different isos(bazzite ally [that was recommended for a laptop], bazzite-deck ), but every time i tried to enter in gaming mode i got a black screen and/or system crash. I have an amd gpu.

I would love the idea to have a supercharged deck in my backpack, but i can't any help by chance?

Distro recommendation

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 5:15pm

Hello guys, I would like to know which distro do you use for gaming/daily use. I’ve been working on my CKA certification building k8s labs and also like to do some HTB machines but I’m getting tired of virtual box VMs. I want to switch again to Linux as main OS. I casually play valheim, Elden ring, death stranding, trackmania, just really nothing especial.

Undervolt my Rx 7900 XTX

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 4:32pm

Hi! Tired of Windows 11 and its ethics, yesterday I landed on Linux, OpenSUSE to be precise.
Now, after installing and setting up CoreCtrl, as a gamer I would need some help to undervolt my rx 7900 XTX.

On Windows, in AMD Adrenaline, I undervolted with the following parameters:

Power limit (%): 15
GPU Tuning: Min Frequenzy (Mhz) = 2400 | Max Frequency (Mhz) = 2500
VRAM Tuning: Max Frequency (Mhz) = 2714

Now, knowing these values I was using on AMD Adrenaline, how can I transpose them to the CoreCtrl application?

Weird colors with HDR on GNOME and KDE.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 4:03pm

I have a non-VESA certified HDR10 monitor that I got for cheap (Samsung UR55 for reference) and even though the HDR mode is underwhelming I can still toggle it on Windows no problem and get some better color, but on the latest GNOME and KDE when I toggle them the colors get completely messed up, not just washed out but tinted wrong. Anyone else experience this? I've been thinking about submitting a bug report but I don't even know where to begin.

Fallout 4 modding on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 3:31pm

Hey all,

I am wanting to switch full time to Linux (Fedora KDE) since I don't need Windows for college anymore, and the only thing holding me back is Fallout 4 modding. The game is just SO much better with a bunch of fixes applied via Vortex. But, how would one do this on Linux?

Display Color Fringing fix on OLED (LG C3 in my case)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 2:49pm

Hey folks, I use Bazzite on my desktop PC for main gaming and general use purposes as I find it way more responsive.

But i'm having an issue with color fringing on desktop mode.

I do not have this issue in Game mode.

Anyone know of a way I can correct this?

One trick I know of that doesn't help me in this situation but does on my Steam Deck OLED... is to install the reshadeck decky plugin and use the 'DefringSamsungOLEDeck.fx' shader.

So I tried that out on game mode on my desktop and it gave me the exact fringing I get in desktop. Obviously not useful but information nonetheless

So with this info, is there a way to defringe desktop mode on my PC? Perhaps a global shader or id prefer a more permanent solution.

Thanks!

Can Windows (11) installations created with Rufus still break Linux systems on the same machine?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 4 Nov 2024 - 1:54pm

I've created a bootable Windows drive using Rufus (sadly Rufus is only available for Windows; see the discontinued 'Windows To Go") and I plan re-installing to an internal drive -- I unfortunately need Windows for certain software and some PC games with specific anti-cheat.

Rufus can disable some hardware requirements of Windows 11, is able to create a local account and specifically has an option to "prevent Windows from accessing other drives" -- does this guarantee that I don't have to fix the GRUB after each Windows update (and the initial install)?
