Graphical glitches in Max Payne 3 (smoke, fire, reflections)
Just install Bazzite onto my ROG Ally and it's so much better than Windows
Today I decided that I was finally going to give Linux a try for gaming. I've been relucent too for a long time due to anti cheat/future game updates breaking Linux. On my ROG Ally Windows sleep mode just doesn't work properly, whenever I resume from hibernate, Steam Big Picture mode thinks I'm offline and it takes time for the device to regain WiFi. It also caused problems syncing save data on Steam, I would have to wait 15 seconds before powering down the device to make sure the save data was synced. Overall Windows just isn't designed for a handheld gaming device. I really hope Valve and other Distro Devs can work with game publishers and devs on a solution for the anti cheat problem. I would love to install Linux on my main PC, but I don't want too because I play Fornite somewhat often, and also other multiplayer games like Apex or The Finals. Currently there's no guarantee that even if your favorite multiplayer game supports Linux now, that it will in the future

Why is a missing title a deal breaker for Linux?
So, people buy Nintendo, even though they are locked out of 95% of the gaming market.
People buy PlayStation and XBox, even though there's exclusives on both sides, and a large number of PC games that just are not available. Also, no Nintendo games.
People buy Windows, even though there's plenty of console titles that are not available, or are badly ported, or released years after launch.
So why do so many people seem to freak out when they hear that a small number of games don't run on Linux? Why do I so often see people say this a deal breaker for linux, but not for the other systems? (Or is this actually a very small minority? Am I stuck in an echo chamber?)

Red Dead Redemption keeps crashing.
This is the error I keep getting when trying to launch the game. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? The only thing I've really tried is getting the newest driver from the Nvidia website but the .run file opens in a text editor and won't install. I'm on Mint 22 Cinnamon and just want to play the game.

How can I get this to display larger? (NobaraOS, PlasmaDE)
Has anyone had luck getting the Skyrim SE Creation Kit to work (well)?
I've installed CK Platform Extended, and Creation Kit Multiple Masters Fix but I still have lingerining issues. It takes a really long time to load cells (5 minutes) when I've seen YouTubers load it in under a second, and I'm using an NVME SSD. The Render View is also very laggy and unresponsive. It's almost like my cursor is stuck being clicked down, so moving my mouse around even without clicking moves the camera around. Makes it pretty much impossible to use, which is a shame because I want to make patches.

How to configure custom mouse acceleration profile in libinput on Ubuntu Wayland?
I'm having trouble configuring my mouse acceleration curve on Ubuntu Wayland. My mouse feels too "floaty" and I'd like to fine-tune the acceleration. I know libinput supports custom acceleration profiles (merge request !775), but I haven't been able to find any information on how to actually configure it under Wayland.
I've tried using xinput, but that seems to only work with X server. I've also looked at libinput debug-events, but that only shows events and doesn't offer any configuration options.
Does anyone know how to configure a custom mouse acceleration profile in libinput on Ubuntu Wayland? Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Will the desktpop environnement change the performance in any significative way when gaming? Also what are the best known distro for performance?
See title, considering switching from cinnamon to xfce if it can help grab a few more fps
Also, is Mint basically as good as any other distro for gaming?
I'm trying to look for actual comparisons online but I can't find much

Crash when launching games/3d apps under Xwayland since Nvidia 555+ drivers
Hello,
I've been trying to deal with this issue for a few months but I'm pretty sure no one else online has something similar going on, I'm pretty lost so I've finally decided to ask for help.
Starting since the 555 Nvidia drivers and continuing on up through the 560 and the current 565 beta drivers, I haven't been able to launch any games or anything that uses 3d acceleration (namely Unity Studio) under Xwayland. Things work fine under X11, as do 3d apps with native Wayland support (at least Blender does), but Xwayland crashes *instantly* as soon as I try to launch a game using it. This also crashes any 2D Xwayland applications that were running at the time, like Discord.
Initially I thought this was the VRAM crash some people have been talking about since 555 was released, but from what I understand that crash takes minutes to happen - for me it's completely instant, with nothing but a black screen rendering for a few milliseconds.
Technical details - I'm on Arch, on KDE, all packages up to date as of 2024/11/03. My GPU is an RTX 3060, a LHR model from Palit if that makes a difference.
The only logs I'm smart enough to grab are from journalctl, and all I can get from this is that the crash is due to a segfault:

As for troubleshooting, I've tried having GSP firmware both on and off, as well as switching to nvidia-open - no difference with any of this. I also tried using Hyprland instead of Plasma, but same issue - actually it makes the entire session crash. Rolling back to 550 works, of course, but that seems untenable, plus it's missing explicit sync so playing games kind of sucks anyways.
I'm feeling pretty hopeless here, any help would be appreciated.

forza horizon 4 on steam deck?
I'm thinking about buying it when the discount returns, is there are any problems with the game login/sign in feature on steam deck/linux?
seeing how some friends had their game refunded because they can't get through the xbox pop-up login window (the sign-in doesn't register and the game loads you back to the start menu, so kind of a soft lock)
I also knew someone who had crashed their game after going through prologue and was never able to boot the game past the start menu screen
did anyone encounter these problems or something similar?

PS Plus not logging in
Hello all! I´m a new Linux User, I´m using my first distro (Mint) that I´ve installed yesterday after 12 long hours, but I´m finally happy to leave Windows behind, for good. In this matter, as a gamer, I´ve decided to try and run PS Plus on my OS. Sadly, I have an error message that tells me that "an error has ocurred", and I´m unable to login into my account in order to access the game catalogue. (I´ll link a screenshot)
For troubleshooting:
I´ve installed GE-Proton in the latest version
Replaced the missing .dll file
Altered the Target and Start In Paths on Steam
In short, I´ve followed this amazing tutorial for the Steam Deck, as I couldn´t find any tutorials for PC. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sLB\_db6w6Q)
Could someone help, please? Sorry for bad english.

I still can't decide what to install and stick with
At the risk of sounding stupid I'm gonna ask what people could recommend in my case.
So, I'm still torn between a lot of distributions and I know it's impossible to have a perfect setup, each distro has pros and cons.
I'm still trying to debate on xorg vs Wayland mostly due to Wayland supporting VRR over xorg not supporting it. Also tearing.
My issue is I can't decide if I want to go the LTS route or the point release route, or plain rolling release. I want to troubleshoot as little as possible but I also know using an LTS sacrifices the ability to have a recent version of mesa out of the box as well as having to rely on older system libraries which could cause more harm than good for gaming.
But then a point release means accessing more recent mesa ootb, but also having to deal with bugs (I have encountered many weird bugs with Fedora in the past) as well as having to refresh every 6 months, which is annoying.
Rolling release removes the need to refresh every 6 months but you will for sure encounter more severe issues. Like when there was a bad grub patch that made it to arch.
I'm torn and don't know what to pick at all. Too many choices and my favorite desktop environment (mate) doesn't support Wayland or VRR so I'm assuming I'd be shooting myself in the foot for using it with a Radeon card. Current GPU is a 6800.

Server Side Anticheat?
I have a question why not use server site anticheat, so the servers will check every movement if it's possible or not like in Minecraft(some servers have better anticheat other worse but it's playable).

GPU choice
Hi, I know this isn’t the type of post that this sub is meant for, but I wouldn’t post this if I had no other option. I have looked at dozens of benchmarks, checked local pricing, asked people, but I just can’t seem to make a good choice.
Should I get the AMD RX 7800 XT or the Nvidia RTX 4070 for my new PC build?
The RX 7800 XT strikes me as having more “raw power” while the 4070 has better support for various side technologies (RT, AA, etc).
I plan to play games like Satisfactory, CS2, Cyberpunk, Minecraft (modded), War Thunder, etc.
I intend to play everything (nearly everything) using Proton.
The card will be matched with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D in case that helps you, and my total build budget is around €1600.
Again, sorry for posting this here but I really don’t know where else to ask lol.

All games run at 10 FPS.
After upgrading my Arch Linux system, I’ve been experiencing strange issues with games and Steam as a whole. I’m using Hyprland, but I’ve also tested this on Sway with the same results.
Games take longer to start, and once they do, I encounter lags, glitches, and various graphical and audio distortions. I’ve tried reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers, but it didn’t help. These issues happen with all games, not just the one shown in the video, and overall, my computer feels slower than before.
