Other News about gaming on Linux
Worth it?
Hi guys I’m new to this sub and Linux in general, I’m case swapping soon so just thought I should finally pull the plug and switch to Linux because I’m tired of windows. But the more I look into the gaming side of Linux the more it turns me off, I know some of you frown upon anyone who wants to play kernal anti cheat games but if that’s a serious reason for me is it worth just staying on windows? I’ve considered dual booting but it seems like a lot of effort just for Linux. Just wondering if it’s worth the effort and if so what distros I should use that is most compatible with gaming (and a programming noob like me).

need help choosing a linux os for gaming
So back in 2023 I built my best friend a computer based around the LGA1150 socket he currently has Windows 10 on it. He’s looking to try a Linux distribution but since he primarily games using. Steam are there any LINUX operating systems that are primarily geared towards people who gain I know LINUX can have some issues with Windows games and since my friend does not tech savvy. I’m hoping to find an operating system that would be easy for him to learn. What do you guys recommend I was going to suggest LINUXMINT but that’s not really gaming centered
his specs are an lga 1150 motherboard 16 gigs ddr3 ram gtx 1050Ti and a core i5 4690k
im currently looking at bazite and nobara he uses the steam windows app for gaming and also browses the web and uses word docs so what options do i have his current os is windows 10 so something similar would be great

Looking for help optimizing satisfactory
Currently satisfactory is having sub-par performance. I use the in game benchmark to set my graphics settings but turn DLSS to performance instead of balanced, but am only getting 50-55 fps with ~65% GPU usage. I tried turning DLSS off and did get slightly better fps, but they were extremely unstable, dipping to 30 when moving and it was using 95% of my GPU. Running on Proton-GE 10-31, I have NTSYNC enabled. I have gamemode configured to set my CPU to performance and I disabled mangohud to see if it was causing issues. I have tried both the DX12 and Vulkan rendering, Vulkan gave slightly better performance but not by much. I tried FSR with the ROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 launch option, slightly better performance but looks absolutely horrendous.
My current launch options are MANGOHUD=0 gamemoderun gamescope -H 1080 -W 1920 -f -- %command% -vulkan
I am running Kernel 6.18, running manjaro, AMD R5 3600 CPU, RTX 2060 KO ultra 6GB, NVIDIA driver version 590.48.01, 32GB memory, system is fully up to date
At my current settings Satisfactory is only using 2.5GB VRAM out of 6 I have and the GPU usage is only 65%,

I made a Discord voice/chat overlay that works on Wayland
I + LLMs have made Sigaw, a C++-based in-game overlay similar to Mangohud, supporting Vulkan and OpenGL games. Unlike Overlayed.dev, which renders a transparent window on top of the game, Sigaw injects the overlay directly into the game, meaning you don't have to worry about issues such as attempting to overlay in full screen on KDE, etc.
What it does (TLDR: tries to work 1:1 like Overlayed):
- Shows your Discord voice channel in-game with live speaking/mute/deaf state
- Keeps active speakers visible when the channel is large
- Can show voice channel chat messages as fading overlay rows
- Supports avatars, compact mode, and per-game overlay profiles
- System tray menu + CLI control via sigaw-ctl
- Works with Gamescope, X11, and Proton/Wine
To use Sigaw, you just launch games with sigaw-run %command% or SIGAW=1 %command% in Steam's launch options, check the README.md for clear instructions on exactly how to configure it for your setup.
Tested against a variety of games and applications, including but not limited to: Squad (Proton), DCS (Wine), vkcube, Ready Or Not (Proton), and a few others.

I can finally release the Demo for my cozy Creature-collecting & Farming game: Bloomies! It has a Linux native build! 🐧
Hi Linux Community. My name is Silvanuz and I'm the creator of Bloomies.
I've been thinking about combining monster-collecting and farming games for a long time, since I'm a big fan of Pokémon and Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon.
And after many months of hard work I can finally release the demo!
Bloomies is a monster collector game with farming elements that runs independently at the bottom of your screen.
Use your computer as usual. The little monsters will happily continue living below.
Plant new seeds to hatch the eggs you've produced.
You can hatch new Bloomies from the eggs—sometimes even the rare Sparkle variant in a different color!
Expand your skills to automate your gameplay.
Make your Bloomies stronger and stronger and defeat the powerful world bosses to increase your world level so you can buy new things in the shop.
All at your own pace!
What does this have to do with gacha?
In Bloomies, the goal is to get monsters with the best S+ rank and then have them as Sparkles (like Shiny in Pokémon).
Since you have to constantly hatch a lot of eggs to achieve this, the gameplay in that regard is very gacha-like. It’s comparable to trying to pull a specific character in Genshin Impact.
I hope you enjoy the game and that it brightens up your day a little. :)
You can try it out on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4339460/Bloomies_Demo/
Feedback from the Linux community is really important to me because I think it's cool to create the native build that runs on your desktop out of the box

How does ULTRAKILL run on your OS?
In the middle I had switched to arch linux and I tried running ULTRAKILL on it, and the performance was surprisingly worse than windows. Has this happened to anyone else? If so do yall have any fixes?

RTX 2070 Super Linux performance
Hi, I hope you're all doing well. I have a question and I hope you can help me. I'm planning to buy an RX 2070 Super and I'd like to know how it performs on Linux.
I don't know if any of you already own one and could share your experience with it.

Tonight: VoxeLibre Game Night — fully in the browser, no install needed
Star Trek (2013)
I'm working on trying to get as close to 100% of my Steam library working on Linux Mint as possible. This game is proving to be particularly tricky, as I think the game was delisted from the Steam store before the first version of Proton even released. It's definitely not on ProtonDB. Even Googling it is a little tricky, as the game is just called "Star Trek" and the world kinda forgot it existed.
Has anyone actually managed to get this game running on Linux? My understanding is the game wasn't available for very long due to licensing, and it wasn't very popular when it was available. So far I've not had any luck getting the game to launch at all, but I've only tried a few Proton versions without tweaks.
