Controller is not being detected after reconnect unless Steam Input is enabled (worked until yesterday) and it also affects Heroic Launcher games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Dec 2025 - 3:28am

I’m running Fedora 43 KDE and since about the last 24 hours I’ve been having a controller hot-plug issue with an 8BitDo Ultimate 2. Games no longer detect the controller if it is disconnected and reconnected while the game is already running. If the controller is already powered on before launching the game, everything works normally. Enabling Steam Input also makes the problem disappear completely, including proper disconnect/reconnect behavior.

This happens both in Steam and in games launched through Heroic, including titles that previously worked fine with native controller support. Because Steam Input works reliably, this does not appear to be a wireless, dongle, or hardware problem, but rather something breaking below the game layer.

Inavlid Output in Minecraft Forge 1.21.1

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Dec 2025 - 1:27am

I'm trying to run Minecraft on version 1.21.1 and every time I try to start it, even without mods, the game doesn't even open and gives an error as if the SHA is wrong. I did some research and didn't find anyone talking about this on the internet, so I resorted to chatgpt. According to it, it's:

Incompatibility bug between Forge 1.21.x and Btrfs (CoW + compression), causing temporary file corruption during processing/extraction, resulting in an incorrect SHA — it's not a Java or internet problem.

I tried to fix it using chatgpt itself, but I couldn't and I have no idea how to fix it.

This is the error: Processor failed, invalid outputs: /home/myuser/.local/share/PrismLauncher/libraries/net/minecraft/client/1.21.1/client-121.1-official.jar Expected: fd32ce5ddf1bc49a9c1a00ff73cbcb2aa7a99d18 Actual: 6254se4152aeaf33sb755c0arfbf60b1bed53Pr6

Sniper elite 5 black screen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Dec 2025 - 1:21am

I'm using cachyos with arch deckify fully updated. I've tried proton proton GE and cachyos proton. 7800x3d 7900xtx 32gb ddr5.

Anytime I try to play Sniper Elite 5 in gaming mode, it will always show a black screen if there's no input from the mouse or if I connect a controller. It only works normally in desktop mode with the game set to windowed.

Game works perfectly fine on my wife's PC with no changes at all same setup different and hardware

Scroll Wheel Inconsistent in Steam Games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Dec 2025 - 12:14am

New to Linux (Ubuntu), fairly new to Steam. When I am using the scroll wheel the input is inconsistent/erratic.

The behavior is similar to the wheel being dirty or a damaged mouse where certain clicks of the scroll wheel don't input. Except this can happen several scrolls in a row at times, or not at all. This is happening only in Steam, does not happen in the few other apps I use on this device. Does not happen in the Steam app menus, only in-game. Happens with multiple mice. Has been happening since dual booted the device 5 months ago.

I've tried toggling off GPU accelerated rendering, and smooth scrolling in webviews(?). Searched for updates, closed all background apps, restarted, all the usual basic troubleshooting.

CPU around 25%, RAM around 35%. (Hardware usage doesn't seem to have an impact on scroll performance.)

Happy to provide anything else. I have to boot back to windows for any game I was to use the scroll wheel regularly for, please help!

Is arch Linux too much for someone who knows their way around computers, but has never dabbled in Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Dec 2025 - 11:31pm

I’m a pretty big tinkerer with my computer, built it myself and am currently running windows 11 completely stripped down. My daily uses for my pc are

-piracy (all kinds)

-gaming and recording

-customizing my ui (as much as windows allows)

I’m also a digital based artist but I have other machines for adobe software, so not really expecting to use that on my big desktop. My pc is also pretty powerful.

Basically my question is, as someone who’s pretty technical and knows how to tinker with computers but has also zero experience with Linux, is arch overkill? Should I just get mint and mod the ui to my personal taste?

1.6.3

Steam Deck preset saving

  • Save MangoHud configs into 4 preset slots

Question on proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Dec 2025 - 10:20pm

So I’m a total Linux newbie who’s jut got pop_os a few weeks ago. I’ve got things like affinity and aseprite working without any major issues, except affinity needed a specific version of wine to work. I’m assuming this comes up in games too where sometimes a game requires a specific proton version to run.How does one know which version or variant of proton ( or wine ) is needed for a game? Like for example how would I know which proton version can run Arkham asylum and which can run nomad man’s sky? Is there a website I could check?

Thinking of Switching My Gaming PC to Linux – Looking for Advice

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Dec 2025 - 10:17pm

I’m considering installing a Linux distro on my gaming PC. Right now, it’s running an unactivated copy of Windows 11, which I don’t really care for. I have solid experience with Unix systems through development work on WSL and macOS, but I’ve never installed or used a Linux distro as my primary OS.

The goal is to use this PC for both gaming and personal projects. I’d much rather work in a native Unix environment than deal with WSL. I’m curious if anyone here has made this switch—what was your experience like? Any recommendations on distros or setup tips?

I’ve heard Linux works well with Steam, but I’m unsure about game compatibility and whether extra configuration is needed. I don’t have a lot of gaming time, so I’d prefer minimal setup headaches and games that run smoothly out of the box.

Games I’d like to play:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Mount & Blade: Bannerlord
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (probably the trickiest)
  • Witcher III
  • League of Legends

PC Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i7-13700KF (13th Gen)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Storage: 2 TB SSD

Any insights, distro recommendations, or gotchas would be greatly appreciated!

Is there any way I could install asusctl on mint or should I switch to Fedora?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Dec 2025 - 10:04pm

As stated above. Basically everything I've seen on forums says Ubuntu (and mint) is unsupported and cannot be used. I've been considering going to Fedora but I'd like opinions from people who actually use fedora-based distros. I'm in med school so not super code-literate but I can get by. I'm primarily looking for a GPU switching utility but it'd piss me off to know I'm not fully utilising the capabilities of something I own. important detail, I'm using a AMD Advantage g15 2021 (5900hx; 6800m) Any help would be much appreciated for a newbie:)

Steam - Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage does not work on Ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Dec 2025 - 10:00pm

What happens when I launch it:

Black screen with a white mouse cursor I can move. Nothing ever displays but if I wait a bit and press enter and/or escape I can hear menu sounds. But the sounds are stretched, as if the game was unable to play them at full speed.

My machine:

Laptop Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16AFR10H
AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080
Bios is up to date

My distribution:

Ubuntu 24.04.3, up to date

GPU driver:

580.95.5

I use the native version (deb file) of steam.

I tried with several versions of proton with no change:
experimental
hotfix
10.0-3
GE Proton 10-26

For reference, tekken 8 runs great, also through steam so it appears the general configuration of the machine is OK.

Here is a link to the terminal output and proton logs:
https://gofile.io/d/u0CTgt

I checked on ProtonDB and I added the launch option mentioned there (the game crashes at startup without it).

Config. do meu PC:

Ryzen 5 4600g
