Is there any sort of command-line api that will allow me to launch games directly with command line without having to use steam GUI?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 1:22pm

Basically title. I use Lutris to launch all my games and I have this obsession of having the least amount of launchers/clients to go through as possible. My ideal scenario is to just click on launch on lutris and it takes me to the games main menu. I'm already able to do this with epic-games using legendary, but I'm confused on how to do this with steam.

PS: Before anyone tells me to "just use steam normally" - this is just my personal obsession, I'm going out of my way to ask how to do this, so if you can't help me that's fine - just don't tell me to use steam. Thanks

Programs for screen recording and video analysis

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 1:16pm

So basically I currently use going screen recorder, but the recording comes out very greyed out and low color, not how it's supposed to be, is there another app I can use or is there some settings to fix this?

Also I do data analysis from video recordings for some games, is there a app that will allow me selected a video file and mark stuff on the time line of when something happens and can be frame by frame checking? I know VLC kind of has this but not really

Does anyone have experience with gaming on void? I'm interested mostly in steam and controller support. Is there much setup required, or does it just work out of the box?

I’m buying a budget PC to use as a server, but it would be nice to have it functioning as a gaming console as well. How can I achieve this?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 12:40pm

The server/console’s specs will be: i5 8th generation (not sure exactly which model), 8GB RAM (will upgrade to more soon), a GTX 1650 and 250GB of internal SSD storage plus 18TB of HDD in RAID.

To run my HDDs with ZFS, I’ll need to use Ubuntu, TrueNAS Scale or something similar.

Has anyone tried installing a console/Steam Deck-like UI on Ubuntu (specifically Ubuntu server)? Did it work?

Getting ~20fps in Clair Obscura with a 3700X and 6700 XT, is this normal or is something broken on my end?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 8:15am

Picked up Clair Obscura since it seems to be the best thing since sliced bread, but running via proton unless I turn down the game settings to look like a fried potato, I am getting between 20 and 30 FPS at 1080p with a 3700X CPU and 6700 XT GPU. I was wondering if anyone else happened to have that exact combo of hardware and also getting that performance with the game, or if I have something broken on my end.

Trouble running Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Fedora 42 (Steam Flatpak)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 7:57am

Hi everyone,
I'm having a really frustrating issue trying to run Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) on my Fedora 42 system (GNOME, fully updated). I'm using the Steam Flatpak version.

I've played plenty of other games through Steam without any issues, but this one has been a nightmare from the start. Here's what happens:

  • After installing the game, the EA App launches, but the game itself never starts. Steam shows it as "Running", but nothing happens. I can't close it normally and have to force quit.
  • After several attempts (and reboots), I finally managed to get the game to launch once, but:
    1. It won’t connect online. When I click "Connect" it tells me I need to log into the EA App — but I already am.
    2. It doesn’t detect my controller at all (which works perfectly fine in other games).

I’ve tried reinstalling the game and switching between multiple Proton versions (7, 9, 9-GE, and Experimental), but no luck.

Has anyone experienced something similar and managed to fix it?
Do I need to adjust anything in the EA App, Flatpak permissions, or Proton settings?

How do I play Ubisoft games (specifically Trackmania) on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 7:02am
  1. Downloaded Trackmania on Steam, can't play it because I need to connect to Ubisoft
  2. Downloaded Ubisoft Connect and added it to Steam. Doesn't open properly, just crashes
  3. Installed Lutris and was able to login to Ubisoft Connect, but when opening Trackmania through Steam it still says I'm not logged in

Does anyone know a working way to play Ubisoft games on Linux? Thanks

Am I doing something wrong?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 May 2025 - 6:45am

Id long heard Linux efficiency was better than windows, however switched from windows 10 to Ubuntu. And since switching every game has seen a notable decline in performance, granted my hardware is near ancient still (ryzen 1600, rx560) but with all drivers reading up to date, 90% of games I've tried crashed inside of a minute, and the rest I have to play on low or minimum whereas I previously was on medium.
