HARD VOID Early Access announcement Trailer!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 8:16am

With 1.5 years of development, HARD VOID will enter Early Access this October 2025. The expected development time until 1.0 is one year.

This project is a solo development journey, fully developed on Linux with C language and OpenGL, and includes native Linux support! You can try the demo on Steam and itch.io.

The Early Access will be a direct follow-up from the Demo version.

I wish to develop HARD VOID alongside player feedback to try new, wild, and experimental ideas. You can join the Official Discord server https://discord.gg/YbJjr3yuys or post in the Steam forums to suggest and discuss game content and features.

Kubuntu Adopter Wondering About the other distros.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 5:44am

I spent September trying out Bazzite, Pop!_OS, and finally got to Kubuntu. So far it is smoother to get things like new Vegas and Skyrim modding going. I like the familiar environment and I've developed a workflow.

Are there any distros I should consider before fully committing to Kubuntu?

Weird performance issue.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 4:43am

So, i use endeavouros and i do some lightgaming, atm playing silksong, stardew valley, and a few small games, nothing high performance. The thing is, a few weeks ago i notices my performance was dropping on prety much every aspect adn playing was impossible. I tried everything, downgrading mesa, vulkan-radeon. I broke my OS, fixed it, and nothing worked. After that i just said fuck it and deleted all my games and steam. Yesterday i installed steam and silksong again and it was working amazing, just like it used to, and like 24 hours later i started noticing the lag again while playing. What should i do?

Upgrading from Nvidia to AMD on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 4:24am

Right now I’m dual booting Nobara and Windows and I’m planning to upgrade from an RTX 2060 6gb to an RX 9060 XT 16gb. I know that on windows, I have to remove the nvidia drivers then install the AMD drivers. I also know that the Linux kernel natively support AMD so I’m a little confused. Do I have to uninstall the nvidia drivers on Linux? And if I so, how?

Trying to run Old game on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 1:53am

Years ago I had "Deer Hunter The 2005 Season" running on Linus using Wine. Honestly, it seemed to run better on Linux than on Windows. Fast forward to now. I have several laptops running Linux and with Windows 10 dying off I figured i might as well go full Linux. Deer Hunter kis thge only game I miss playing. I tried installing with Wine, Lutris, etc. and it won;t work. I get "could not init graphics". Why am I having some much trouble with this, does it need an old Wine version, or is there a simple way to do this? . Log file looks like this:

LOG file "Game.LOG" created in 10/11/25 19:50:10

MH wilds running at about half the FPS as windows

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 1:37am

I am running MH Wilds on a fresh Bazzite install. I am new to Linux and don't know what I don't know. I checked the proton (experimental) and mesa version (25.2.1) and I think those are the latest and greatest.

I haven't done anything special for my gpu drivers, I have a 9070XT.

Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

For comparison, in windows the game sits at 60-72 FPS without FSR on high settings. In bazzite, it is sitting at 30-45 FPS with drops into the 20s.

Best way to replace console?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 1:21am

Hi everyone, I’ve gotten back into Linux. And I installed Bazzite so I could play games it runs really well out of the box was pretty impressed. One thing I want to do is replace my console as I use it as a media streamer instead of the TV’s awful ui. Is there a good Distro or apps I should look for to run Netflix, YouTube and all the streaming apps? I saw chimera OS but I have nvidia graphics card so that’s a no go.

so I installed win11 enterprise...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 1:14am

and it's really not that bad. there's no junk to get in the way. just a clean OS to build upon. the windows store isn't even installed. massgrave.dev might be worth looking into for anyone wanting to dual-boot for the few games that just don't quite work on Linux.

Don't get me wrong, I'm primarily on Linux but having a clean windows environment that I feel comfortable letting it update itself from time to time is nice. No ads, no copilot, no ad-sponsored games, nothing. Steam works as expected, though some games might complain about the missing xbox game bar but it's not required for play. ADHD users might be bothered by the popup though.

not sure about any potential privacy issues yet but it's gotta be better than the mainstream home and pro editions.

oh and works without secure boot and tpm 2.0. both enterprise and iot versions, despite what massgrave says. secure boot is not enabled on my desktop or laptop. :)

bonus points, windows is installed to my 2nd positioned nvme and did not clobber my rEFInd bootloader. nor did it overwrite grub on my single disk laptop.

  • note: don't shrink btrfs. I think that broke my laptop's nix install. XD

Need help with Garry's mod

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 12:59am

I've been trying to play gmod singleplayer, but the game crashed from time to time - firstly, when I tried to load maps, secondly - when I tried to spawn something.

Also, how critical would it be if I'm missing some dependancies

Weird issue when recording Minecraft with some mods

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 12:25am

First off, I just want to make it clear that I'm not a beginner to Linux, so you don't necessarily need to walk me through every step.

I have an issue when recording Minecraft. Sometimes, a part of the screen on the top randomly becomes black (it's very hard to explain) and I'm not sure how to resolve this. I didn't notice this happening with vanilla Minecraft, but when I use mods I noticed this. It only happens in Fullscreen. I tried turning off Cinnamon's "Disabling compositing in full-screen windows" but it didn't help.

Here is a clip of what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNHrjfzxmUE

Here is my Xorg.conf.

Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" Option "Coolbits" "24" # Option "TearFree" "on" # Doesn't seem to do anything in recent driver versions Option "TripleBuffer" "on" # Doesn't seem to make any difference Option "ForceCompositionPipeline" "1" # I need this or I get really bad screen tearing in all games EndSection

My operating system is Linux Mint 22.2 Zara, and for drivers I am using nvidia-driver-570-open (version is 570.172.08-0ubuntu0.24.04.1). 580 drivers cause other unrelated issues, so I'm not using them.

My system specs are an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti. I have the GPU overclocked +400 core and +2000 VRAM but I don't think that should affect anything.

I'm using OBS (Flatpak; version 32.0.1) and Minecraft 1.21.4 (via Prism launcher) with the following mods:

GPU clocks drop heavily in Dota 2 on Linux - TDP issue?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Oct 2025 - 12:06am

Hey everyone, I'm running Arch Linux on a Acer Nitro. I noticed a weird behavior in Dota 2:

When there are few objects (like in a lobby), GPU clocks are normal:
❯ nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK

Clocks

Graphics : 915 MHz

SM : 915 MHz

Memory : 4001 MHz

Video : 855 MHz

But when many heroes/effects appear, clocks drop immediately:

❯ nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK

Clocks

Graphics : 1095 MHz

SM : 1095 MHz

Memory : 4001 MHz

Video : 1005 MHz

In ranked games, after ~10 minutes of play, clocks can fall further to ~800–1000 MHz.

Specs: Ryzen 5 3550H, GTX 1650 Max-Q, Hyprland 0.51.1, Driver 580.95.05.

Could this be a TDP/power limit issue? Any tips for safely maintaining higher clock speeds under load?

P.S. It's not overheating—the GPU temperature doesn’t go above 55°C.
