My Pc cannot detect Intel Arc B850

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 3:47pm

HI,

I run Ubuntu 24.04 (kernel 6.14.6) and when I boot up my PC beeps one long and three short ones. Apparently with asus motherboards(tuf gaming b450m plus 2) this means that there is some problem with the GPU. I have also installed the drivers from https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html but nothing happens. Also I have enabled rebar in BIOS but nothing really happens .

Can you help me, please?

Thank you!

This word-game roguelike looks unique and has one of the longest names I've ever seen

Gaming on Linux - 9 May 2025 - 2:57pm
Game marketing, you gotta love it. How can you make your small indie game stand out? A great game doesn't always stand on its own, so why not give it a ridiculously long name.

Isolating wine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 2:38pm

I have an old laptop that has a pentium t4200, 4gb of ram and a 120gb ssd with debian 12 which i run old 2000's games on using wine. Im kinda worried that those old games may contain malware due to its age even though they come from my personal collection. How can i protect my system from those? I heard about using firejail or bottles, but i want your opinions about it. Thanks in advance.

Poor performance of Opengl on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 2:09pm

So OpenGL software on my computer runs at about 20-22 FPS. I installed Stellarium and thats the FPS I'm getting. But on WIndows I get 50+. I had tried the same with the Linux version of KSP long ago and it ran at about the same 18-20 FPS. But running the Windoes version of KSP with Wine gives performance on par with Windows. I have a hunch it't due to OpenGL. If I remember correctly, I once did try forcing opengl for KSP on WIndows and got the 18-20 FPS as on Linux, but forcing opengl for Stellarium ran the same.

No luck installing battle.net Ubuntu 24.04

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 1:34pm

TL:DR New to Linux. Want to play starcraft 2. Can't get battle.net to launch. Tried everything on the internet I could find. Help please.

Hey all. I'm new to the whole Linux OS system and have been messing around with it on an old PC and probably spent 3 hours yesterday trying to load battle.net. I have scoured the internet and tried just about every work around I could find but I keep getting different errors trying to load the battle.net launcher.exe. I just want to play starcraft 2 lol. I tried with this first https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-battle-net-on-ubuntu-22-04-linux-desktop.

Then I tried loading it through Lutris. With this I'll get almost done with the installation then it will freeze and I get a force close or wait option causing me to lose my installation progress.

I tried using bottles and this installation will actually finish but then I get a blizzard error saying the application encountered and unexpected error.

Lastly I tried loading it through Steam as a non steam game and this one sounds like it's loading but then does nothing.

I've literally tried every work around I could find on reddit and YouTube. I followed the wine dependencies and driver installation from here https://github.com/lutris/docs/blob/master/Battle.Net.md. Although I'll admit that seemed a little over my head so I just copied and pasted. And for the graphics drivers I'm not sure if mine even needs it or is compatible. I have some really old Raedon card.

Any help for this noob would be greatly appreciated. I really like how Linux runs on this old PC and like learning new stuff but this is driving me crazy.

The ntfs3 driver made my switch from windows SEAMLESS, why is nobody talking about it?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 1:31pm

A couple months back I wanted to try my hand at sharing my drives between my windows / linux dual boot and run my already-existing windows games through proton and a native NTFS driver so that I can just have one copy of my games which I can use either in windows natively, or within linux using the power of proton, whatever I fancy in that moment.

I am a software engineer by trade so I am pretty comfortable around the terminal and such, but I couldn't find any documentation on making this system perfect. A few guides, even some officially from steam exist showing how to do this. But I found the performance to be subpar.

It's even more complicated in my case as I have 2x 2tb NVME ssd's that are joined via a windows software raid 0 (yeah yeah, I know, but I aint re-downloading 4tb of games) and ofc since these are windows drives with windows games, the drive is formatted in NTFS. I already have some knowledge of rebuilding raid arrays, so I built the array using mdadm and tried using the ntfs driver as most guides suggest. But the read/write performance was abysmal.

That was until I read about the new ntfs3 driver, which was very recently included in the linux kernel by default!

A lot of scary warnings about it being an experimental driver, but I have had exactly 0 issues. I routinely play games that I installed in windows this way, Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel Rivals are my go to, but even huge modern titles like elden ring (and even the seamless co-op mod works!) and the performance is sometimes better than in windows, or at least identical.

There is no trickery here, the ntfs3 driver allows linux to natively communicate with the drive in the same way windows would, I even have my C drive mounting my desktop, documents, videos etc. folders to the same places in my home directory.

I have been heavily using this system for a few months now (I run every game like this now) with not a single issue.

There are some "gotchas" during the setup and configuration that you have to look out for, but would a fully written guide with all instructions written and explained for the layman be useful here?

I am very impressed with how well this works and just wondering if this is worthwhile to throw together something for others to follow along?

2nd display NOT recognized on Asus Rog Ally (Debian 12)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 May 2025 - 1:17pm

I just installed Debian 12 on my Asus Rog Ally and it runs fine on it but the only screen it will display on is the portable screen that the Asus Rog Ally comes with and will not even recognize my 2nd external display via HDMI or Display port from the dock when I open the Display Settings. I can only see the 1st default display as an option (the Rog Ally portable touchscreen). Oddly enough I never had this problem when I installed Kali Linux on it before. What should I do?
