Steam BPM looks awful running from session picker
so I setup a .desktop file like the Arch wiki says, and added my video and display name to grub kernel params. my steam desktop file calls the following as the exec gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 144 --adaptive-sync -f -e -- steam -tenfoot
no matter what I get this tearing, I've messed around with the gamescope args, no dice.
I also used Nvidia settings to generate xorg.conf, also no change
Session greeter im using: sddm Nvidia 3080ti Nvidia proprietary drivers dkms
note: everything runs fine including big picture in Hyprland

Rog Ally
Bazzite or CachyOS handheld edition? Is their someone who tried this and have some input. Despite people hating on the windows experience on handhelds im okey with it. I just wanna switch since both my Gaming desktop and laptop runs Linux and see no reason to stick with windows on the ally if its not needed. So the question is do i go for bazzite or is their any advantage to go cachy?

Just a tiny benchmark i did between running CP2077 from a DE (gnome-wayland) vs running it from a dedicated Steam gamescope session. Weird results. Gnome-wayland = 98.23 | Steam-gamescope = 86.59... Not sure why gamescope was worse, but there's an...
Black Myth: Wukong Frame Gen and overall performance
Hi everyone,
I've recently start playing Black Myth Wukong and I've decided to try it out in linux as well, the game runs well but nothing compared to windows performance, i couldn't enable Nvidia frame generation, so that's making a big difference, I've tried some of the tinkering steps found in the proton DB page but no luck.
For the graphics both windows and linux are all cinematographic, RT very high at 1440p
DLSS:75
in windows i get like 90-100 fps
in linux, 50-80 (as no frame gen can be applied)
I'd really prefer to play the game in linux as i feel more comftable using it as my main OS, but the difference in performance compared to windows if kinda huge
Am i missing something? Could somebody help me out here?
Thanks you :)
PD: i'll try to add later images of the benchmarking tool comparing both OS in my rig

New Laptop, Poor FPS in Games – Need Optimization Advice
Recently got a new laptop with decent specs, but I’m struggling with gaming performance, specifically in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and *Spider-Man Remastered, (*those are the only 2 games i have tested). Here are the specs:
- OS: Arch Linux (Wayland)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-13620H
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 (Laptop)
- RAM: 16GB DDR5
- Storage: 512GB SSD
I play both games through Steam with Proton GE, but I’ve been getting pretty poor performance:
- Miles Morales:
- Max settings with ray tracing: Less than 30 FPS with frequent frame drops
- Low settings without ray tracing: Less than 40 FPS with the same frequent frame drops
- Spider-Man Remastered:
- Performance: Around 40-60 FPS with frequent frame drops on both high and low settings
- I was able to still finish the game like that tho
Here’s the kicker:
- During gameplay, my hardware usage is far from maxed out:
- GPU Usage: Mostly below 40%
- CPU Usage: Stays below 70%
- RAM Usage: Around 9GB
- The only time my GPU hits 100% is when I’m both playing the game and training AI models at the same time. However, even then, the FPS remains the same with no improvement in gaming performance.
I feel like my GPU isn’t being utilized properly for gaming. Could this be an issue with Proton GE(I have also tried proton experimental, no difference), Wayland, or something else? Does anyone have a solution or suggestions to optimize my setup for better gaming performance?
Thanks in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Force Steam to use all CPU cores when downloading and processing shaders
I've been gaming on my Linux PC for a few weeks and noticed today that it only uses 3 of the 12 CPU threads I have available when downloading games or processing shaders. As a result, I can't download games at full speed, and when I do get them downloaded, launching still takes forever. Has anyone had a similar issue? Does anyone know how to make Steam use all threads, or how to set the number of threads it uses? I am using a Ryzen 5 2600 and Debian 12 with KDE.

Will Linux run games from a NTFS partition just fine? or no?
Hi all, I'm planning to dualboot Windows 10 and Linux Mint on my laptop that I use for mostly work and light gaming.
I have a partition specifically to store all my games called "Games" which is 150 GB and it's NTFS filesystem, I mostly play older games like Fallout 3 on this machine as I already own a high spec gaming computer for newer titles.
I was wondering, will it be fine if I install another game like Fallout New Vegas on Linux Mint from Steam directly to this Games (NTFS) partition and play it from there? or should I just install the games to my ext4 partition which will hold my linux mint installation or just make an entire separate ext4 partition purely for linux game installations? I heard Linux does not play well with NTFS so I'm unsure.
Just looking for advice on how I can organize things and if NTFS partition has good performance / no bugs on Linux when gaming .. if not, then ext4 is the way i guess?
Thanks

looking at taking a deeper plunge into linux and more specifically linux gaming
this past year i had built a new dream pc after saving money for a long time, went more top of the line then my old tower. atm it has win11 pro as i got a free license key from work but the more and more i use it the more im just not liking it. i have used linux before in a very limited capacity via helping with my friend do his own server that was running apache and i had messed with mint in a VM before.
my biggest hangs ups at this time is some hardware compatibility, some program/game compatibility, and finally what distro's would be a decent starting point to enter.
on the game front i have checked most of what i play against protonDB's site and i seem mostly ok except for stuff like FFXIV cause i dont have it through steam i bought directly from sqenix. one program i cant seem to find a good answer on is Corel CAD.
on the hardware front the new pc is pure AMD
CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
GPU: RX 7900XTX
my problem comes more from the fans and AIO in the new pc. The AIO is a NZXT Kraken 240 RGB with LCD
and its running 6 corsair AR120 RGB fans controlled by a Corsair Commander Core XT for case fans. i have seen stuff like OpenRGB and i just found something called LiquidCTL earlier today but outside the cursory google search i got no clue if those would work.
Distro wise ive only every messed a little with mint, any other linux stuff ive ever touched has been in like webhosting or mail servers.
i get its going to be a learning curve, im hoping that with some advice or light guidance it wont be like running face first into a wall.

Marvel Rivals "Not in a Text Channel", can't queue, games counted as AFK.
there's this really odd bug where halfway through a game it'll kick you out of the text channels. upon trying to send a chat, it'll say something about not being in a channel. once the game ends, it'll say you were AFK for the game and it'll deduct MMR. then, you can't queue. clicking the buttons do nothing, and you're forced to restart the game. what could be the cause of this?
Proton: GE-Proton9-22 (Experimental and Hot-Fix had the same issues and blackscreens.)
Distro: ElementaryOS
System Specs:
Ryzen 5900x, Nvidia RTX 2060 SUPER (nvidia-driver-550)
i'm unsure what directly causes the problem, as there's nothing that indicates the glitch has taken place (except when I open the text and notice it already has.) there's no performance dip, visual artifacts, anything noticeable - that's what makes this glitch confusing for me. as for fixes, I've tried using experimental, hot-fix, restarts, disabling steam-overlay, restarting steam, updating packages, etc, etc. i can't pinpoint the issue.
thank you in advance

Bottles - Gamescope how to add '--force-grab-cursor' option
Hi everyone,
I've just started using Gamescope in Bottles and it's been working great. The only issue I've been having is that when I'm for example in the inventory or pause menu in the game, I sometimes move my cursor out of the game window. I ran the game from the command line with the --force-grab-cursor and that worked like I want it to. However, I don't see any option for that in the Gamescope settings in Bottles.
Does anyone know if there is a way of adding the option somehow? Thanks!

HDMI 2.1. not work with Linux?
Hello guys. I have an RTX 3070, and I normally game on my 1440p monitor, but I also have a 4K OLED TV.
I want to buy an HDMI 2.1 cable in order to be able to play on my TV. I know my card isn't really strong enough for 4K, but I figured it's probably going to do fine for Baldur's Gate 3?
But I am worried because I have heard HDMI 2.1 does not work on Linux? Is that true? Will I be fine?

GPD WIN 4 (2025) "supports Windows 10/11 and SteamOS (with system adaptation provided by Valve)"
How to run Resident Evil 6 in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed?
I managed to replace the movie files, but I didn't understand any of the WINEPREFIX stuff I found, so every time I open the game it shows a black screen before it crashes. I'm using the latest version of Proton GE.
