FlatOut from GOG on Lutris fail
Hello community! Despite all the people saying that gaming on Linux these days is basically seamless, I've had a lot of frustrating experiences. My last one involves FlatOut (a classic I loved as a child) on MX Linux. I'm running an HP 355 G2 with AMD A8-6410 APU and integrated graphics. I installed the game in Linux mode (installing it on Wine threw and error and couldn't complete the installation. Error 256 I believe, but I#m not sure). Anyway, when I launch the game nothing happens. The log records the following, which I can't decypher unfortunately, other that wine just exits for some reason.
I hope somebody can help me figure out this one.

Remote play together black screen
Hi. I am trying to remote play together between linux and windows pcs. It works fine when the Windows PC is the host. But when it's the other way round there's a black screen on the windows pc. I can hear the sound of the game and player 2 controller works. Just cant see the game.
Any ideas? I've tried disabling hardware encoder. Still no joy.

Do I really need shaders?
The take up a lot of space and take ages to compile for some games, do I really need them? I see very little performance difference
My specs are:
RTX 3060 12gb
Ryzen 5600

DualSense Controller fails to connect
Hi everybody, I run EndeavorOS, and upon recommendation from somebody here I bought a DualSense controller last Christmas I think. Things have been great with it! Until now. It will no longer pair or connect.
I stopped using it for a while because my life got too busy for gaming, but then Silksong released and I have time again, so I dusted it off and wanted to play, and when I pressed the PS button to get it to connect, it timed out, with my PC not really reacting to it. Whenever I would get it to connect, the status LEDs on the DualSense would not change colour and the connection would fail a second later.
I really don't have much more info on this, since I don't really get any errors besides "connection failed", and I am too much of a noob to know how to get anything more specific (if you do please tell me!!)
My current attempts to fix have been:
- install dualsensectl
- forget device in bluetooth menu, readd it
- wait for kernel update & then update and reboot (did that today)
None of these fixed anything, so I thought there might be an issue with the drivers, and I tried searching for the driver package's name and only found "hid-playstation", which I can't find installed or in the pacman repo or AUR.
Is anybody else experiencing this, if so, is there a known fix, or do you have an idea what it could be? Is it more likely that something in my kernel is fucked (fine I guess, I can kinda deal with that), or my DualSense is having issues (terrible). Maybe it needs a firmware update...? If so, how do you do that (without a PS5)?
it still works via USB but I bought the thing because I did not want to have a cable in my way 24/7 so I really don't consider that even a temporary fix.
Sorry if this post is a mess, I hope it doesn't violate Rule 2, I really don't know where else to go with this.
Stuff that I think might be good to know:
bluez version: 5.83-1
kernel: EndeavorOS version 6.12.46-1-lts

The Finals adds Denuvo anti-cheat WITHOUT the DRM, and using anybrain machine learning to catch Cheaters.
Borderlands 4 doesnt look to well, 30 FPS on a 5800X/7900XT at 3440x1440 without upscaling. Gotta run at 720p just to hit 60
The frametime graph is insane
Lowest settings only gives a 15FPS boost; 45FPS

fossiilize_replay cooks my CPU
I don't know where to post this, but I need to vent. I only run Linux and this happens when I game, so...
I have a Ryzen 9700X which on paper is a 65 watt CPU, though it can go higher - 80 watt or so - when using all cores simultaneously.
It is cooled by a Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 3, which ostensibly should be able to disperse 250 watt. The fan profile is tuned for idle silence, but it does ramp to 100% beyond 80°C. The CPU throttles thermally at 95°C.
Now - I cannot make this system go beyond 75°C even with a "stress -c 16" running at the same time as Furmark is hammering the vidcard.
But when Steam updates Vulcan or whatever, fossilize_replay (shader precaching) starts running on several cores. And the CPU temperature goes to 97°C and the CPU fan panics!
How is this even possible? What manner of dark magic can cause an 80W CPU to overload a 250 W CPU cooler? What circuits is that process deploying that can cause such thermal spikes when no other program I have ever run manages the same?
I even put a second old fan I had in a box on the cooler to help it out, running at a constant low speed. That only made my idle temps are even lower, fossilize_replay (and only that) still causes extreme temperatures.
While I am at it: how do I kill fossilize_replay? It does not heed killall, sudo kill -9, gnome-system-monitor, or quitting Steam - it just restarts itself. "Sorry boss, I was not done here!". I have to do it several times, wildly killalling and kill -9:ing and so on, repeatedly and randomly, before the processes disappear from the list.
Evil @£$"#¤% software!

AC Unity - ACU Fixes and ReShade don't work properly together
FYI I installed ReShade as ACU Fixes requires d3dcompiler_47 to run it.
They both work at the start of the game, but when I start playing it will reduce my resolution screen and I'll be able to see my desktop. When I do Alt + Enter to go back to fullscreen, ACU Fixes will stop working. How can I fix this?

MangoHud horizontal
For anyone who might not know, you can display MangoHud in horizontal (e.g. top left corner)
In that way it takes less space, is less distracting and doesn't annoy with overlaping anything of the game.
If you want to look yours the same? Just put these lines into your MangoHud.conf
gpu_stats
gpu_temp
cpu_stats
cpu_temp
ram
fps
frame_timing
font_size=18
font_size_text=18
hud_no_margin
hud_compact
horizontal
no_display
background_alpha=0

I have hit first road block
It has been few good months of Linux gaming since I switched from windows. I have two gaming PCs (Fedora and Bazzite) and Steam Deck and everything just worked. Up until now...
I took out my Fanatec wheel form the closed just to find there is no driver support for that wheel...
Well there is a third party kernel driver but you need to compile it yourself. I could probably make it work on Fedora, but not Bazzite.
I would not consider going back to windows, more likely switch to a wheel that has Linux support. But I don't think there is any except Logitech which is not comparable to Fanatec.

Considering switching to Linux
Hey everyone,
I’m considering switching from Windows to Linux. I just upgraded my GPU to an 9070XT and have a Ryzen 5700X3D, and after reinstalling Windows I’m really annoyed with all the bloat. So I’m tempted to make the jump. Does anyone here have a similar setup (9070 XT + 5700X3D) playing at 1440p under Linux that can tell me what kind of avg FPS are you getting in CS2?
Also, which distro is good for gaming? CachyOs? Bazzite? Does it even matter?
Thanks!

Failing to inject FSR4 into Hitman WOA
Hi, I need help with injecting fsr4 into Hitman World of Assasination. I've installed optiscaler, but I can only get fsr 3 to load. Here are the specifications:
OS: Bazzite 42 with KDE Plasma 6
Optiscaler version: 0.7.9.7
Mesa version: 25.2.1
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
Proton version: Proton CachyOS 10.0 20250906-slr
Game: Hitman World of Assassination
Platform: Epic Games, installed via Heroic Launcher
The game uses dx12, so it's puzzling why I can only see fsr 3.1.5. I have enabled fsr4update option in the optiscaler.ini file, but that doesn't seem to work either. I've tried with other games, and they seem to work, only this one doesn't. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a financial reason why game companies can't just isolate Linux from Windows during online play?
Just had this thought a while back.
These companies seem convinced that allowing their anti-cheat software access to the kernel will reduce or at the very least increase the cost of entry for anyone who is looking to engage in cheating.
Before cross-play became a thing (and I'm assuming it still is for most newer titles) you either played online with other console gamers or Windows and the two sides would never cross paths.
Why not just take the same approach when it comes to Linux?
