Steam deck rdr2 modding

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. November 2024 - 05:56

Hi guys been trying to find a solution to an issue. I bought the game on pc and it runs through rockstar launcher. Downloaded lennys simple trainer and the rdr2 asi loader, I put a DLL over ride command in the launch options for steam but it won’t let the file launch even after adding it as a non steam game. I just get an error message saying launch it through the rockstar launcher. When I launch it through rockstar the mods won’t load, anyone have any solutions?

Dragon Age Veilguard Freezing and Crashing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. November 2024 - 03:34

Just posting in case anyone has experience with this or ideas on how to fix it. Im running Bazzite (Fedora) on a HTPC with a 7900xt and Dragon Age Veilguard has great performance--until it randomly locks up and occasionally crashes. It was happening more frequently until I turned off the fancy hair settings (the game has incredible hair physics) but it still happens from time to time and has me at a loss. The GPU isn't overheating. Is there a way to clear my shader cache? Does anyone have other suggestions? I'm pretty new to Linux, having only used the Steam Deck and the Linux distribution on my NAS before. Thanks!

Tips for Monster Hunter Wilds Beta

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. November 2024 - 02:11

If you're having trouble, try this:

  1. The game prefers fast storage, and may crash if it can't access files fast enough. This will likely be fixed by launch and seems to be a problem on Windows too. Install the beta to your home directory or an SSD.

  2. Try Proton Experimental if it crashes on launch.

  3. Disable FSR3 completely if the game is otherwise a blank black void.

  4. In graphics settings, once FSR3 is disabled, use TAA, disable motion blur, do not use "highest" textures or in general, go one step lower than whatever is recommended, set volumetrics to "Low" and variable rate shading to performance.

  5. VK3D_CONFIG=dxr

On KUbuntu with an AMD 7900GRE, I am now getting 60FPS solid. All other settings are high.

Diablo 4 requires me to change proton version for it to run

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. November 2024 - 01:19

I've been playing D4 on Steam for months now and mostly no issue. Recently I haven't been able to play the game unless I change the proton version from experimental to 9.0.3 and then if I launch it again I have to change it from 9.0.3 to experimental again for it to run and the repetition continues. I have no idea why, but was curious if anyone could tell me.

I tried running it in the terminal so I could see the error, but Steam and even the terminal crash entirely when I do it. Any way I can run it in another way to get the logs of the crash?

Thanks

Man of Medan - low FPS for no reason

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. November 2024 - 00:44

I try to get 60 FPS in Man of Medan but I only get 30-35. This is the first game with this kind of problem on my System. ALL my other games working without problems (e.g.: The Quarry). Turning the graphic settings down makes no difference. My System should run this game without problems. Someone has an idea whats going on with this game?

My System:

RTX2080

i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz

32GB RAM

Debian 12 with KDE Plasma 5.27.5 @ X11

G-Sync Monitor @ 144Hz

  • 30 FPS ingame limitier = off
  • CPU/GPU is not limited
  • KDE Compositor = Off
  • Update to recent NVIDIA Drivers
  • Tried different Proton and Proton-GE Versions: 7,8,9
  • no difference with DirectX11/DirectX12 Version
  • no difference with or without starting parameter: mangohud gamemoderun %command%

Sorry for Off-screen records.

Actively maintained Task Manager/Mission Center alternative?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 23:37

Hey all, up until recently I've been using Mission Center for all of my app managing needs, it's quite good and does almost everything I need it to... until recently. There's currently a bug with Mission Center that makes it impossible to see a large number of apps that are running on your system (see this related issue). Apparently there's a workaround involving forcing all the apps to run in the correct cgroup... which I am both too stupid and too disinterested in making every single Steam game I own use this workaround. Moreover, it sounded like from the dev's explanation it was a pretty ingrained limitation with how it is currently getting the current running apps, and it could be several months before this is fixed, if it's even able to be fixed.

So I am looking for an alternative, I used to use Ksysguard for this purpose, but it's long since deprecated unfortunately.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, my only requirements are that it has to be actively maintained and have a GUI. If it's a CLI app, I might as well just learn pkill at that rate, which is infinitely less convenient.

Chimera OS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 23:36

So I currently have my PC loading right into steam Big Picture mode upon boot. But this is a gaming only PC that I have hooked up to my TV. I already have my laptop for my personal and work tasks so I want to dump Windows off the gaming PC.

I have Steam games but I also have some cracked steam games that are no longer sold on Steam. I want to be able to able to still play those games and maybe some emulators on another OS. Would Chimera be good for that?

Helldivers 2 stays minimized and won’t open.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 22:53

Hello again. I’m just trying to play some Helldivers and every time I open game, it minimized to the panel. I can hear the game audio but when I click on the panel icon, it just minimizes itself again. I’ve tried different proton versions and verified the game files. I’m not really sure what’s causing this issue or how to fix it, as googling it brings up little results. Any suggestions?

[Surface Laptop 3, 15” Ryzen 7, 16GB RAM] Certain software making laptop overheat after certain duration, causing massive performance drops.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 22:47

I recently made a post about this problem but I didn’t have my facts or info straight so hopefully this phelps when it comes to figuring out a solution.

I have the Ryzen 7 edition of the Surface Laptop 3 & have been messing with Linux for the past month or so but one problem I run into is that certain software, after 20-30 mins or so, will cause my laptop to overheat and have massive performance drops. These programs so far have been PCSX2, SimpleScreenRecorder, VirtualBox, PCem/86Box, VMWare, Flashpoint Launcher (Mutable & Immutable), any time I use Wine (so far I’ve only used Wine to launch SRB2 1.09.4) and any game tested in CrossOver (how good or bad performance initially is doesn’t matter as again the drops happen 10-30 mins later).

I’ve tried Fedora, Mint, Arch with KDE Plasma, Ubuntu & Kubuntu and the same results happen. I’ve installed the linux-surface drivers from GitHub but unfortunately nothing changes and it is worth noting that these distros were booted off an external drive & I have been in performance mode this whole time.

Here are screenshots I took of my temps before & after launching SimpleScreenRecorder. The lowest my laptop gets on idle is 40-42° C but during recording it was in the 80s and for about a second or two went as high as 91°

I had btop, htop & System Monitor to see what else was maxing out my resources but I’m afraid I don’t know what to look for because I didn’t find anything that looked out of place either.

Any suggestions?

Question about kernel level software.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 22:10

It seems like a trend that’s here to stay, more and more software goes with it, people don’t care and install stuff with no questions. Microsoft allows swarms of companies to get kernel mode drivers signed, be it for games or whatever.
Linux refuses to allow it in any form for "trivial" software, labeling it as super dangerous, eventually getting cut off from more and more software.
So how dangerous is it really to the average Windows user? Can things really go wrong? Does it make a difference?
Incidents like Crowdstrike 2024 or Genshin Impact 2022 happen, sure, but it’s not like it affected average users on their regular machines specifically.
I heard some say it’s a “ticking time bomb”, but what’s gonna explode? Are there really worst case scenarios, and how likely are they? Is it just about remotely likely minor inconveniences at most?

Are we inconveniencing ourselves beyond what’s reasonable by avoiding software that requires kernel access?
Is the anti rootkit position an idealistic take, an "in principle it sucks", but most likely nothing will ever happen, and even then it wouldn’t be that bad, or is it really serious business?

New conspiracy theory?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 21:29

Recently, developers of many multiplayer online games have begun to implement so-called anti-cheat programs that do not allow Linux users to play them. Thus, many gamers are forced to use Windows to play their favorite game again and spend time online with their cyber-friends and like-minded gamers. As everyone knows, Windows 11 will not be supported by many "old" devices, and Windows 10 support is about to end, and in order to be able to update, a lot of people will have to simply buy a new computer. Of course, some immediately began to think about switching to a free alternative - Linux, where everything worked until now and you could play fav games. But with the use of anti-cheat solutions, suddenly your favorite game does not work and it turns out that the only solution is Windows. Could it be that Microsoft is deliberately persuading developers to use anti-cheat solutions that blocks Linux users in order not to lose many gamers (and, of course, so that people buy a new Windows)?

How to replace Glibc without breaking my system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. November 2024 - 20:24

I am trying to replace glibc with glibc-eac-bin to get insurgency sandstorm working again.

I found online that you can use ‘yay -S glibc-eac-bin lib32-eac-bin’ and that should work. However, whenever I try this, I get a unresolvable conflict due to conflict with glibc.

I tried removing and replacing glibc with the new one (even in one line) and broke my system twice (fixed it with pacstrap bc glibc didn’t seem to install without it).

How do I install glibc-eac-bin and resolve the conflict and without breaking my system?
