Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 11:54

Hey everyone, I’m running Linux Mint 22.1 and I’m looking for a hack’n’slash game similar to Path of Exile or Diablo. Does anything like that exist? Thanks!

Issues with poor performance and display lockup after disconnect (Among other things) (AMD eGPU on Fedora Linux)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 11:31

As the title says, I have been facing a multitude of problems with my eGPU setup. I should note that I am very new to Linux.

I have two main issues:

1. The gaming performance is very bad. Satisfactory, is about the most "graphically demanding" game I play gets around 20 fps on integrated graphics (eGPU disconnected). With my eGPU, that only goes up to 40 fps. At the same time, system monitor reports 100% utilization of the dedicated graphics (eGPU). Less demanding titles obviously perform better but are still nowhere near where they could be. I understand that there are performance penalties, but this seems too high.

Note: I am playing a screen connected directly to the eGPU Note: I used to use a older Intel chip and a 2060 to play Satisfactory on Windows, yielding much better performance, which is why I don’t think this a CPU bottleneck

2. The most frustrating issue is the display lockup that randomly happens after the GPU is connected. This can happen under any circumstances. It happens on the lock screen, on the desktop, in a browser, or in a game. The only way to escape is be forcefully shutting the computer off.

There are also two more lower priority issues:

3. Under certain conditions, the screen will intermittently turn black for a few seconds and then come back. As far as I can tell the content that would be on screen still reacts to my input. This specifically happens with Cities: Skylines 1, with the game in windowed or full screen modes. I have not yet observed it with any other game.

4. The system refuses to boot with the eGPU connected. It will just be frozen on the loading screen with the Fedora logo and the spinning wheel. This is less of an issue because I can turn it on before connecting (if it’s not on already).

I hope that you guys can help me, especially with the first two. Maybe these issues are all symptoms of of the same underlying issue.

Some basic info about my setup that might be useful (will update this if more important details are found):

  • Framework Laptop 13 with a Ryzen 7840U
  • Fedora 42 KDE Plasma Edition
  • Games installed through Steam and run using Proton
  • Sonnet Breakaway eGPU w/ Radeon RX 6700XT
  • eGPU connected to external 1080p display. Set as primary display in KDE settings. All apps and games appear on that display when opened.
  • Output from running "sudo lspci -vv": https://pastebin.com/VuyPs0mN

Unleashed recompiled performance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 09:58

Does anyone know why UR runs worse on linux?, ive tried on both Windows 11 and Bazzite
on windows 11 ran it with graphics mods like Visual Overhaul and it run pretty well
meanwhile in bazzite same mods, same configurations (both no anti aliasing 75% scale resolution 1080p, enhanced blur, vsync on, bicubic shadow rendering, original shadow resolution) and it ran worse than on windows 11

tried launching it both on steam and on desktop thinking maybe proton has something to do with it but no, idk what causes it, ive seen people saying it runs better on linux but for me it runs worse, if it is a configuration issue or something pls tell me and how to solve it

specs:

intel core i5 1135G7

igpu iris x

1x8gb ram DDR4

512gb m.2 nvme ssd

idk what else to put

thanks in advance for the help

Looking for help using the BG3 Mod Manager in Bottles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 09:05

So I just got into using Linux, and I am able to manually mod just fine, but BG3 has some mods I need the mod loader for and to fix up the load order. I've seen people use both wine and bottles and for this, and I decided on bottles. How would I get this up and running on bottles as a whole? I'm not too familiar with the program.

The original Splitgate's native Linux build got removed without notice

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 08:09

The original Splitgate has been released in 2019 and supported Linux natively since 2021.

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2021/07/looks-like-splitgate-will-be-the-next-big-thing-fps-supported-on-linux/

The game used to support cross-play between Linux, Windows, PlayStation and Xbox. Due to difficulties caused by releasing the sequel in a poor state, the dev initially decided to shut the servers of the original game, then announced switching to P2P to keep the game alive.

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/08/the-original-splitgate-will-live-on-with-player-hosted-matches/

However, it turned out that even though the 29th Aug 2025 update is set to keep the game with P2P support and even the cross-play with consoles remain functional, the native Linux client removed entirely without notice.

https://steamdb.info/changelist/30854943/ (requires Steam login to show details)

As expected, many suggest using the Proton, but considering that I purchased the packs of the game solely due to its native Linux support, I feel saddened. Sigh...

Does Sea of Thieves work on Linux or not?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 04:12

I'm getting conflicting reports and wanna know what's the deal!

Basically, I'm on Linux Mint and want to play with a friend that's on Windows. When they send an invite I don't see it and I can't open the "game bar" because Winkey+G doesn't work, for some reason.

I looked online and people are either saying "doesn't work on Linux" or "yeah, I got it working," but nothing specific or helpful. Some people can't even open it, while others can enter a match, so long as their friend invites them first.

I'm on the latest Linux Mint and can open Sea of Thieves without even needing Proton. My only issue is I never see an invite when it's sent and when I hit Winkey+G nothing happens.

So what's up? Anybody had a better experience? I know Sea of Thieves is Microsoft, so they probably don't care that Linux users can't play their games, but I'd like to know if there's a work around or maybe I'm missing something.

System Specs:

  • OS: Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon ver. 6.4.8 X11
  • CPU: 11th Gen Intel Core i5-11400F @ 2.60GHz
  • RAM: 46.9
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700

Weird bugs in Hollow Knight, but not the enemies

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 03:23

Hello, I recently started to play the game on my laptop in witch I run bazzite yet it seems to have a strange bug.

Sometimes when i enter a new area I am greeted with, what I guess, a random png instead. If I manage to get out of that room it got back to normal but most of the time i had to exit the game.

If I remember correctly one time I got just a black screen and I couldn't access the option using ESC so I had to force close the game.

The game is directly from steam and from what I remember it had a high score of comparability

Has anyone else encountered something similar while playing ?

Major slowdowns and crashes on some steam games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 02:36

Hello all. I posted here a few months ago for a similar (or possibly the same) issue, and I've since made some progress, but I'm still a little perplexed on if there's any way to fix it. I play most games I own on steam, and a lot of them work fine, but a significant number of them have some mix of seemingly random freezing, crashing upon alt+tab, and massive slowdowns to around 5-10 fps. These games (particularly games developed by Paradox), many of which I played heavily before I switched to Linux, never really had any issues on Windows other than the occasional stutter. Wherever possible, I've tried both the proton and native versions of games, but I haven't noticed any differences other than a slight change in fps.

My specs are as follows:
Distro - Pop_OS! (although I had this issue with mint as well)
Memory - 32 GB RAM
Processor - Intel® Core™ i5-9300H CPU @ 2.40GHz × 8
Graphics - NVIDIA Corporation TU117M / Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 630 (CFL GT2)

Are there any more specs that I missed? Is there somewhere else perhaps better suited to my particular issue? Any help is appreciated!

Need help GPU compatibility

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. September 2025 - 01:06

Just built a new pc with an 9060 xt. First installed mint and ran into issues, later found out it is because the kernel and mesa are not new enough for support dor my gpu. I’m new to linux and dont know which distro to use. Tried ubuntu 25.04 but still ran into many problems. Please let me know which distro I should try or if I should just use windows until Mint supports my GPU fully.

CS2 audio cut off randomly

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2025 - 23:32

I know that this is a known issue and there have been many options in how to fix it with starting options and creating a new asoundrc file in home directory but none of them worked for me.

Are there any other solutions for this? I only have this problem with CS2. Other games work fine and have no audio issues

If I want to fix it temporarily I need to change the output device in CS settings (which is also known as a temporary fix)

I use nobara fresh new install Pulseaudio Gnome DE Analog stereo Logitech g pro x wireless

If I need to provide more information tell me which.

Thank you in advance

I need help because I can find files in dolphin but in wine I cant

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2025 - 23:11

The issue is just what the title says

Basically I'm on my steamdeck I'm trying to install the EldenRing item and enemy randomizer I can open it but I can't select the game exe because wine simply isn't showing any of the files

I have show dot files enabled in the wine cfg

Everything is there on dolphins end

But I can't copy a file location into the randomizer or wine and just have it work it's like it's working off of a completely different directory where only some of the files from dolphin also exist in wine

If I could figure this out I'm sure I could figure out the rest of the issues with getting the randomizer to work on my steamdeck but obviously first step would probably be for it to recognize the EldenRing exe to begin with

Edit: I feel like I should state that when I have dot files enabled it shows some new files a lot actually but none of the ones that would bring me to my steam games so I can select the exe I need
