Other News about gaming on Linux
7 month Linux user, gaming in Linux is best on WMs.
I tried most of the more popular distros/DEs, fedora, ubuntu, arch/cachyos, gnome, kde, xfce, budgie, etc. etc., on my 5700X and 7700XT nitro+.
The best gaming performance for my system, with the best and most consistent lows 1%s and 0.1%s and the least discernible input lag, have been i3 and sway (I am currently on fedora sway spin). They are also the best at using my system it seems, in terms of GPU/CPU utilization. I had to re-arrange my fan set-up due to increased temps from the higher utilization.
If you can put up with the knacks and the more complicated entry requirement, the experience is buttery smooth with no hiccups.

Switching to Linux because I don't want to upgrade to Windows 11
As the title states. I'm looking to switch to Linux because I don't want to use Windows 11. I am currently running Windows 10 and honestly I could probably get away with using WINE for a lot of my specific use-cases (namely, using audio equipment on software, since most of the drivers and software are windows specific.) I'm looking for suggestions on what I should go with on my main PC. I have a thinkpad X230 running Void Linux from base (DWM) so I'm not against getting down and dirty with configs. I don't have an issue with systemd, so compatibility it huge. I'm looking for a distro that won't break itself when I'm just trying to play a game. Not necessarily a Linux noob so troubleshooting isn't an issue but my time is limited nowadays. I've heard of Nobara and Garuda Linux but I figured I'd ask for people's opinion. What would you guys recommend for a PC running a Ryzen 5700x3D and a 3080 and 32GB of RAM. I am not afraid of a commandline and enjoy coding in my free time as well, so I'm not necessarily ONLY asking for beginner friendly distro recommendations, just kinda what everyone has been using and why. Since Windows 10 is being dropped in October 2025 I figured now would be a good time to transition and experiment.
Some games I play are: CS2, Factorio, Satisfactory, Minecraft, Vintage Story, Starsector, Project Zomboid, Star Citizen, Stellaris, Elite Dangerous, Space Marine 2 and Darktide, Satisfactory, and occasionally I'll play on my bass guitar using Rocksmith 2014
so any tips regarding these specific games would be greatly appreciated!
Additionally, I am also familiar with Proton. I have a Steamdeck and I am familiar though a little unsatisfied but it’s (mostly) immutable Linux OS. That said I am familiar with proton compatibility and issues with anticheat. So anyone’s experiences with any of these games are greatly welcome.

Linux 6.13 To Allow Controlling Zero RPM Feature For Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs
Linux emulators refuse to cooperate with controllers on fresh Mint install.
Hi everyone,
So I just reinstalled Linux Mint. I then downloaded all of the updates in the updates manger and then downloaded the appimage for Rosalie's Mupen Gui. Finally, I installed Steam-Devices. I now just tested connecting my 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth controller and Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller to my laptop to use them in emulators. Rosalie's Mupen Gui still refuses to recognize my controllers for button mapping under "inputs." And mGBA also refuses to recognize them either.
I had brought up this issue before in a previous topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1gj9cgu/linux_mint_emulators_will_not_recognize_8bitdo/?rdt=63209
And I am absolutely baffled as to why a fresh install of Linux Mint absolutely will not allow my controllers to work in Rosalie's Mupen Gui or mGBA.
If you have a foolproof system to getting your controllers recognized in emulators, please share it. My controllers were working perfectly fine last month. Then my laptop refused to recognize them at all last week. Now I just reinstalled Linux Mint, and they still will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: And I would still be grateful if you could even just confirm that my controllers should be working so that I could determine that my problem is the laptop itself.

How do I remove the pre-loading shaders from deadlock
gpu passthrough gtk + qt
the other version stopped working for me so i made this, their main function is to pair the vga and audio together. they work on arch and they are on github, im pretty sure the PKGBUILD installs the dependancies. for other distros you can figure it out or something idk. this also runs the app if you search it and click on the icon, unlike the other version which needed to be ran in the terminal even though it had an icon.

Windows games container idea for anti-cheat
Keep in mind I don’t know how containers work or anything really but just a theory if we have android containers and Roblox works on it would that mean if we have a windows container like a VM or something would that work? This is something I have been thinking about for an hour now and wonder if developers would think that’s a better idea than running it in the Linux world (even though that I would like my games native) but just for anti cheat games would that work like I said just a theory?

AMD 7000 series GPU OC and Fans Control states
Hi! Noob question.
I recently posted a discussion asking for help in using CoreCtrl. But it's obviously not working. I can't apply undervolt changes or just apply a fan curve. The same thing happens with LACT.
Now, being new to the Linux world, reading around (discussions about a year old or so) someones say that the 7000 series gpus did not have this support yet.
Now, my GPU, the 7900 XTX, has been out for a good two years. Do you confirm that undervolt or overclocking is still not possible? I would even be satisfied with just being able to adjust the fan curve.

Displays blink when the refresh rate is set to 100 Hz on HDMI with Nvidia, locking up the system.
Hello,
For qutie some time I am having a weird issue occuring with a few linux distrobutions where all my monitors go black and return to normal every few seconds. This issue only seem to occur when a monitor is connected with an HDMI cable to my computer. When the monitor goes black, the system also seems to lock up during the period the screen is black.
The weird part is: When I lower the refresh rate of the HDMI monitor from the default 100 Hz to 75 Hz, the system seems to run fine without issues. When the Nvidia driver is not installed, the system also seems to run fine, with the monitors not blinking.
System specifications:
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 with driver 560.35.30
- Monitors: 3x LG UltraGear 27GL850 (2560x1440@144Hz)
- OS: Fedora 41
What could be the cause of this issue?

How do I enable Steam Shader cache for only ONE video game?
Hi all, shader cache fixes some issues with The Finals. No other games need it but turning the option on means it does it for every game, even stuff like Black ops 3 and Borderlands 3 which have HUGE caches. Help appreciated

Ark ASA running on igpu
Hi guys, I'm running ASA on Fedora Linux but it's launching from igpu instead of dgpu. Is there a way to fix this? I can launch other games without any issues on dgpu. But not ASA for some reason. Tried with some launch options as well didn't work. Any suggestions?
System : AMD processor, Fedora 40 with KDE, rtx 3060 (NVIDIA drivers installed and lspci shows default GPU as rtx 3060)

The latest from Prime Gaming - November 7 edition - still great for Steam Deck / Linux

Simple question: do I really need to compile shaders for Steam games?
I use Linux for almost 13 years by now (Gentoo for 2, Debian for 8), and I've almost always used it for everything, specially for gaming. I think maybe the stuttering and how wine gaming works has changed over the years, but is it really neccessary to compile shaders at that point?

I'm on NixOS using GNOME under Wayland, what's my best option for recording macros of my xbox controller?
Title.
I'm at this point of Elden Ring where I would like to farm runes to level up more easily. I found a famous location on Elden Ring for this (it is around the Mohgwyn Palace, where a bunch of Albinaurics are sitting) and got a bunch of arrows to shoot at the bird across the canyon. This, however, is not fun at all, so I would like to automate the process.
Any macro recording options or recommendations?

How does steam choose between Steam Linux Runtime 1/2/3 ?
And is there a way to force a specific version ? I know there's force steam to use X on a per game basis, but that's only to force proton I believe, not Steam Linux Runtime...
