Other News about gaming on Linux
I want to move on from KDE, what are some other options for a gamer ?
It's not that I don't like it, in fact KDE was the first DE I ever used when I installed linux many years ago, but I'm honestly tired the KDE look, can you guys help me decide where to go next ? I kinda wanna try hyperland but I don't know if my games will preform the same as in KDE, I play mostly Warframe and PoE2 on arch, and use vscode for work.

Do You Feel Like Linux Has Finally Surpassed Windows and macOS?
I’m surprised more people don’t notice one of Linux’s biggest strengths, it never stops improving. Every year, it gains new features, better compatibility, more technology, and more polished software. Even when you compare Linux to just one year earlier, there’s always so much progress.
It feels like Linux has already crossed the Rubicon. The days of trying to catch up with Windows/macOS are long gone, that was two or three years ago. Now, it’s simply better, and it keeps getting better.
From the kernel to desktop environments like KDE and GNOME, from gaming compatibility to tools like Wine, Wayland, OBS, Krita, GIMP, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Audacity, LibreOffice, Firefox, Inkscape, GNU, Godot, and even GPU drivers from AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel. Everything just keeps advancing.
There hasn’t been a single year when Linux stood still. Linux is just insane now.
At this point, there are only a few things left to iron out or implement and they’re already being worked on.

AMDVLK has been discontinued in favor of RADV.
Source: AMDVLK open-source project is discontinued
Brief. - AMD is focusing on a single codebase that benefits from the entire open-source community. - AMD GPU users should replace lib32-amdvlk with lib32-vulkan-radeon.
Discussion. - Do you think the community needs more "unified" forces like these?

Connecting to Windows hosted Minecraft LAN server from Ubuntu 24.04
I recently installed Ubuntu 24.04 on my 12-year-old laptop to try out Linux and see if it improves performance. I’m not very experienced with Linux.
I want to connect to a Minecraft server hosted on my Windows 11 PC. Both machines have the same Minecraft version. My laptop is on Wi-Fi, and my PC is on a wired connection.
When I enter the server IP and port in Minecraft, the server appears, but joining gives me an “Invalid Session (restart the game and the launcher)” error. Restarting doesn’t help...
A few months ago there was windows 10 on my laptop, and it worked perfectly, even with forge and 1 mod.
Another mentionable thing is that I have only one original minecraft account, so I used Tlauncher on my laptop (it worked when there was windows 10 on it). I tried using Tlauncher on both, but same error.
I also allowed java.exe to bypass firewall.
Does anyone know how to fix the Invalid Session error/get LAN servers working between Windows and Linux?

Entropy: Zero 2 Problems
Hi, I'm having an issue with Entropy Zero 2 on Bazzite where all menus work fine but I am unable to start a new game or start from a chapter, loading from an autosave that I created when I was still on windows works but starting new just gives me a black screen, I looked at protonDB and tried multiple proton versions and nothing has helped. Thanks in advance

If you have KDE 6.5 you def. want to into enabling "Overlay Planes" for better battery life and more responsive gaming while media is playing
TLDR : set KWIN_USE_OVERLAYS=1 as env var and restart if you have Plasma 6.5
Since most of us have a stream / video on the second monitor while gaming, KDE 6.5 brought a nice new feature.
It basically makes it much more efficient where in certain scenarios the GPU doesn't even have to work anymore. Even with HD decoding enabled.
Which obv. does wonders for Laptops, but also works great in GPU limited games. For me personally on a NVidia desktop the difference is very noticable in GPU limited games and since i have a power counter thingy in my wall plug i can see that i save about 5-10% power when having a game running on my main monitor that maxes the GPU with a hardware accelerated video playing on my second monitor.
Would highly recommend trying it out.

I'm on a verge on giving up after using Linux for 6 years, I'm desperate for help
So I'm one month in for trying to fix this single issue. Only Dark Souls III does this, non of my other Fromsoft games or other games does it. After playing 10-20 minutes or teleporting between bonfires, the game start this micro stuttering. I tried every single thing in the book, here is what i tried so far:
Every single possible launch command, like:
LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 DXVK_STATE_CACHE=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
gamemoderun RADV_PERFTEST=nosam RADV_DEBUG=nobinning,zerovram,nocache %command% -ignorepipelinecache -cpuLoadRebalancing -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
combinations between those, nothing solved it.
Tried every single steam proton version and proton-ge version between proton-ge 8 and 10 combined with launch commands, nothing
Tried turning off mangohud or disable vsync with mangohud, nothing.
Tried enabling steam pre-cache shaders, nothing
Replace my gaming SSD with a brand new, nothing
Tried different distros like Mint (Xorg) with XFCE without compositor, or CachyOS (Wayland), Bazzite, nothing
Tried making dxvk.conf file in the game root folder with commands, nothing
Tried different kernels like Liquorix, nothing
Tried turning off steam overlay, nothing
Tried DS3DebugFPS mod, nothing
Tried other stutter fix mods, nothing
Every single combination from above, nothing
I have 2,8k hour in this game, i know every single "stutter point" in the game, like before the Dragonslayer Armour boss fight, when you leave the castle from the stone gate, the game loads the area, and you get a little stutter, i don't talk about those Fromsoft game specific stutters. I know Fromsoft games has stutters, but not like these.
Last thing what i did, i tried the game on Win 10, and it was running buttery smooth for hours, no micro stuttering after 10-20 minutes of game play, that's why i know this is a Linux specific issue.
I have ungodly amount of hours in this game, played on Linux back in the day, i know it runs perfectly fine. I taken a long break from the game, now this issue is there, it was not like this in the past. What can i do to run this game like back then? I feel so tired from fixing this issue in my free time, one month spent on nothing, please help.
My config:
RX 5600 XT 6GB
Ryzen 3 4100

PC performance dropped
Hello everyone, I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop (specs: Intel Core i7, RTX 4050M), and I've noticed a significant drop in performance. For example, in Red Dead Redemption 2, l used to get a stable 80 FPS on high settings, but now the game is unplayable (around 5 FPS). I'm also experiencing major FPS drops in less demanding games. l've installed the latest drivers for my graphics card and tried running games through Proton's compatibility mode, but nothing has helped. What could be the issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS1 emulation: PCSXR or Duckstation?
I use Debian and want to stick with software I can download from the native software manager. I personally prefer .deb packages over flatpak, so PCSXR is available as a .deb there but Duckstation isn't (Flatpak only). Duckstation seems to be the more accurate emulator and I prefer accuracy. Do anyone have experience with PCSXR?

I am willing to give Linux another try but i need some help
So here's the issue. I've had terrible experience with Fedora 42, I just needed a fresh OS that is going to come with preinstalled apps and not hinder my singleplayer gaming experience with boring wine dependencies and other obscure things I wasn't really familiar with.
I am a huge witcher1 fan. I've invested about 800hours into that game and proton experimental or older versions on steam dont seem to work at all. I've tried downloading redistributable packages via steam because that's what was recommended by a proton db guide but the packages are abscent from the steam client, i cannot find them at all.
Another thing that bugs me are drivers for my bloody mouse which comes with .exe drivers for tactile button tweaks and led tweaks. Essentially I get to tinker with the response time and other metrics.
And third, when I installed language packages and set up the keyboard input settings, (even tho english is computers primary option) some games like manking divided instead of using english text just displays a random letter combination on cyrillic. I tried looking for a solution and it seems that the problem lied in missing windows font package. So then I tried using the kernel to install random gibberish i needed, but it didnt work. When you hover over a gun to grab instead of displaying [press E to pick up] it says something nonsensical of serbian cyrillic.
If i het those three things sorted out by some other fedora based distro like nobara or something(i heard nobara is great for this) then I wont look back...

Finally I've done it!
Nope, that's not a picture. The devs of Winboat have made a tutorial on how you can get single GPU acceleration. It took me a little bit but I love how I can just press one key and windows loads and I can use the professional apps that require GPU acceleration. Right now the performance is like 25% which is better than nothing. In my opinion it's way better than messing with scripts and having black screens most of the time for single GPU passthrough. I hope one day it's possible to play games like this.

Best drivers for an RTX 3060-Ti
My system:
- Nvidia RTX 3060-Ti
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- 16Gb RAM DDR4 3200MHz
- MAG B550M BAZOOKA
- Arch Linux 6.17.5-arch1-1
- Hyprland 0.51.1
- Proprietary nvidia drivers 580.95.05
Steam with Proton 9.0-4
So when I just upgraded to the recent nvidia drivers I started experiencing system freezes that force me to force restart my machine which isn't very nice because sometimes I also need to discharge residual power because the VGA light turns on sometimes when I force restart, it happened to me sometimes in older drivers which I do not remember but only with one game (Deep Rock Galactic) but now it happened to me with multiple games, either I get a freeze while the game is starting or when the game opens and runs for a few seconds to minutes, whole system freeze with sound still playing for a few seconds, can't even switch to tty. I checked journalctl -b -1 and I found this:
Oct 26 15:52:42 desktop kernel: NVRM: GPU at PCI:0000:2b:00: GPU-564c2946-3a72-9529-b293-f3362c35caed

I think these are the most relevant errors and I still have the logs of that boot saved in case, I tried the same games in Windows and they work just fine, are there any specific drivers I need for my GPU to work flawlessly? I've read around that nvidia-dkms 566.36 are good but I can't find them in the archive

Autoclicker on Bazzite
Can someone help me make, or maybe already has one, an autoclicker. I'm using Bazzite, KDE, I use an autoclicker for most of the games I play, poe for example. I switched to Linux like 2 days ago, before on Windows I could just use Steelseries gg and make a little macro so that when I hold down a side mouse button it would left click rapidly until I let go.
I tried using ChatGPT to write me something usable, but nothing it spits out works. POE launch is on friday and I cannot imagine playing without it. Thanks in advance

I need help understanding why some Windows native games take a long time to launch on my desktop PC
Hi, as the title says, some Windows native games take a long time to launch on my desktop PC, some of them even 2-3 minutes.
As a reference I've taken my Rog Ally with Steams OS installed, where every game starts within a reasonable amount of time, and Helldivers 2 which is the worst offender.
Here you can see how long it takes to launch on the Rog https://send.vis.ee/download/2344c7d5eff83f1a/#fD50-SrUOy-ifO44sNHtbg
And here how loooong it takes on the desktop (I'm a dumbass and forgot to press "Record", this is why the timer starts at 1:46 minutes) https://send.vis.ee/download/3216b72296a416e2/#i61LZs775rPR6hqm4uF23g
This is my configuration:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI
- CPU: Ryzen 5800X
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT
- OS: Fedora Linux 42
- Kernel: 6.17.4-200.fc42.x86_64
- Mesa 25.1.9
Edit: I forgot to mention that the NVME which is installed on my desktop is in good shape
