Issues with ff14 camera and gamescope on Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 18:00

Hello! I made a switch from Bazzite to Pop!_OS yesterday and noticed that any mouse click in ff14 turned the camera counterclockwise by a whole chunk as well as upward. Holding the mouse meaning having the camera going crazy of course, making the game unplayable.

Looking online, it seems to be an old issue that some people managed to solve through mouse configuration (didn't solve the problem for me sadly). What do seem to fix it and what I had on back on Bazzite when it worked though was gamescope. Great! Let's go and install it then!

Sadly, it's not packaged for Pop!_OS but good news, there seem to be a way to do it by, uh... doing stuff with the distro at this address: https://github.com/pop-os/gamescope . There even is a set of instructions on the page for lost souls like me. Except that it throws me an error:

damien@Damien:~$ git submodule update --init meson setup build/ ninja -C build/ build/gamescope -- <game> fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git ERROR: Neither source directory 'build/' nor build directory None contain a build file meson.build. ninja: Entering directory `build/' ninja: error: loading 'build.ninja': No such file or directory bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

So I search the error online and I see that I need to "build" (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/71734491/error-current-directory-is-not-a-meson-build-directory). So I execute those commands, even create a folder manually for the 3rd one and only get error after errors:

damien@Damien:~$ meson build ERROR: Neither source directory 'build' nor build directory None contain a build file meson.build. WARNING: Running the setup command as `meson [options]` instead of `meson setup [options]` is ambiguous and deprecated. damien@Damien:~$ meson compile -C build ERROR: Current directory is not a meson build directory: `/home/damien/build`. Please specify a valid build dir or change the working directory to it. It is also possible that the build directory was generated with an old meson version. Please regenerate it in this case. damien@Damien:~$ ~/$ meson setup /home/damien/meson/ bash: /home/damien/$: No such file or directory

At this point, it feels like I've already missed something I was expected to know. I tried to look for more information online but didn't find anything. Before I jump on a Fedora distro, I'd like to know if there really isn't something I can do.

Is it possible to play CS2 in stretch mode on GNOME? (gamescope)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 17:57

Hi, I’d like to try GNOME for gaming (I’m currently using KDE Plasma). The only thing holding me back is knowing how Gamescope works there. The truth is, the only game I use with Gamescope is CS2, and here’s my launch configuration: gamescope -w 1280 -h 960 -S stretch -f -r 240.0 --force-grab-cursor --adaptive-sync --immediate-flips -- %command%. If anyone plays CS2 on GNOME and uses stretch mode, please help me out! :,(

Arc Raiders crashing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 17:36

I'm on Artix Linux and using Hyprland. Sometimes when I play arc raiders it just crashes. It freezes and I have to quit the game and start it up again. I have died to this many times which makes it frustrating. I really don't know what could be causing this, and I know it's not my hardware since I have a 9070XT and a 9800X3D. What could be causing this?

Sober freezing the whole system.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 16:52

Sober freezes my system completely after 15-30 minutes of gameplay, and this is happening after an update that required me to reinstall the Roblox APK. GPU and CPU temperatures are fine. Any solutions?

I'm using CachyOS, KDE 6.5.4, and Wayland.

PS: I tried limiting Wayland usage using Flatseal, but the problem persists.

Helldivers 2 crashing or freezing my entire desktop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 16:50

I'm on arch with wayland and gnome but used other distros too and the issue is present everywhere, I've tried other versions of proton including protonge and cachyproton but the game either crashes or freezes my entire desktop either way after 30 minutes of gameplay. Sound continues to play but I have to hard restart each time this happens.

This happened a year ago too but a lot rarely, now I can't even play the game without this happening. I don't see anyone really talking about this on protondb so I'm kinda lost.
Tried getting proton logs but the game freezes and when I closed it it didnt make them, terminal also didnt display anything weird.

Distro: Arch
GPU: RX 6700 XT
CPU: i5-11400f
RAM: 32gb DDR4

Civ 6 runs at 65-70 FPS despite having a RX 9070 XT

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 16:33

So I recently installed Arch Linux (with Hyprland) and Heroic for games. But when playing Civ 6 it only gets about 68-70 FPS no matter the settings. In the Heroic launcher I have set it to use dedicated GPU and also that in Civ 6. What should I do?

MoleTun – a Hamachi alternative that actually works on Linux (LAN gaming over the internet, zero config)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 16:14

Hello r/linux_gaming

I built MoleTun, a Hamachi alternative designed for Linux that lets LAN-only games work over the internet without port forwarding or manual network configuration.

It creates a virtual LAN so games behave exactly as if everyone is on the same local network.

Works with popular Linux LAN games and emulators, including:

  • Minecraft (Java LAN worlds)
  • Factorio
  • Terraria
  • Stardew Valley (LAN / co-op)
  • Project Zomboid
  • Valheim (LAN mode)
  • OpenTTD
  • Old Windows PC games running via Proton with LAN support

Emulation / local multiplayer over LAN:

  • PPSSPP (PSP local multiplayer)
  • Citron / Switch (Eden/Yuzu) local wireless emulation

Technical details:

  • Direct P2P mesh networking for low latency
  • Automatic NAT traversal (no port forwarding)
  • Relay fallback only if P2P fails
  • L3 networking (no L2 broadcast hacks)
  • Linux and Windows desktop support
  • GUI-first, not CLI-only

I built this because LAN gaming on Linux over the internet is still unnecessarily painful, and most existing tools either don’t support Linux properly or rely entirely on centralized relays.

The goal is simple: make LAN multiplayer work reliably on Linux.

Wine Error

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 16:12

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to run a cracked game on my Debian system but Wine gives this following error:
"0134:err:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_resize_buffers Something's still holding back buffer 0 (02FFA238)."

Any idea what this supposed to mean?

Dota2 libpangoft2 no such file in a directory

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 14:52

Arch, i7 3770k, RX570, noob. When I try to go in lobby with bots in game, game crashes and there is

failed to dlopen "libpangoft2-1.0.so" error=libpangoft2-1.0.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I already tried -vulkan_disable_steam_shader_cache and delete all cache, it doesn't help.
Arch wiki says: Remove libpango-1.0.so and libpangoft2-1.0.so in GAME/game/bin/linuxsteamrt64, but when I remove them and start the game, it crashes and steam starts to validating and download files again. Is somebody know, what should I do (besides delete dota 2 forever)?

Tingus Goose is completely absurd and possibly 2025's strangest game

Gaming on Linux - 16. Dezember 2025 - 14:42
Tingus Goose has released recently and after being mystified by the demo, I took a look at the full game and I honestly still have no idea what is going on.

Reminder : liquid metal can dry

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Dezember 2025 - 14:10

No wonder why my R5 3600 was hitting 95 °C while gaming...

It's sitting comfortably at around 70°C while running OCCT + PBO maxxed out right now.

But why didn't it happen with my graphic card though ? It's the same liquid metal I used.
