this only happens when I use the appimage, when I install the flatpak version it show an icon. then why don't I just use the flatpak version? well... at least on void linux the flatpak version of sunshine have some visual issues, and we don't have void package for sunshine here, even in the void-src (our version of the aur), so my only option is the appimage version

I have tried using programs like gear lever and at least now an icon appears on the wofi menu, but still doesn't appear on the status bar. is there a way to fix this?

Hi everyone,

Can someone give me the basic steps to play HDR games on linux. I primarily want to play cyberpunk 2077 on it.

Edit:
My current setup:

• KUbuntu 25.04 (GNOME, Wayland)
• Innon 32m2v HDR monitor (HDR works in Windows)
• GPU: RTX 4080 Super
• Driver: NVIDIA 570 proprietary
• Using Steam with Proton GE 10_3 )

Here’s what I’ve tried:

• Enabled Wayland session
• Enabled HDR on Display settings
• Installed VK_HDR_layer from Zamundaaa's GitHub but not sure if it's working properly
• Installed gamescope

Hello,

Im considering upgrading my old GPU (1060 6GB) with either a 5070 TI or a 9070 XT, since I can get them for roughly the same price. My main questions is regarding which GPU ist better supported in either Fedora 42 or Ubuntu 24.04/25.04. I would love to go with Wayland, but experienced quite a lot of issues with my old GPU. Performance-wise the GPUs should be comparable, but I've ready that way more games support DLSS4 compared to FSR4. However I dont really know if those features are really supported on those platforms. Cuda/Deep Learning might be useful, but are Not an deciding factor. I would love to hear aome additional opinions in which GPU to choose and some pros/cons I have not considered. Thanks!

Hi can I get some help choosing a Linux to try? I have no ideea regarding programming or tweaking files, I only recently learned how to reinstal a windows 10, thing is after the support for it is done I wanna move to Linux but there is another problem, I have a Nvidia GPU(4070ti) and from what I heard they have issues regarding drivers but someone says you can tweak something to fix that, etc. My question is this: is there a super beginner friendly version that is compatible with nvdivia GPUs and handles games as well as windows 10? I’ve been dabbling with the idea of building a desktop with the following guidelines: - Full hardware compatibility with Secure Boot and Fedora Silverblue, - AMD-only hardware for driver compatibility and security. - Silent operation prioritised with quiet cooler, peripherals, and efficient PSU (not looking to start a war at home :)). - Small form factor with mini-ITX case and motherboard. - White aesthetic for case and peripherals (again, gotta keep that peace). - Generally trying to future proof, I understand at a certain point this only gets improved with a higher budget.

I’ve listed the parts, average pricing I’ve found components for, and my reasoning for each one below from reviews and other advice I’ve found online.

I am trying to run vulkaninfo | grep EOTF on my Kubuntu 24.04 system on Plasma(wayland) but it returns empty. Does this mean HDR won't work on my system. THe HDR on my display settings works. If I turn off in my monitor's, screen is washed, otherwise bright. I guess this means HDR is working in the system level.

My specs:
RTX4080
Innocn 32M2V 4k @ 144Hz Monitor

I am a competitive-ish player in Quake Champions (Windows native game, only DirectX compatible and ran through XWayland on my Wayland desktop until the release of the Wine Wayland driver with Proton 10) and I am running it on Linux. After Glorious Eggroll's release of the acceleration-disabling patch of ProtonGE-10-3, especially, I started noticing the immediate affect of having no XWayland latency. It is actually insane how much latency it introduced. I cannot imagine that I was playing with latency for all this time.

I have almost never played this game on Windows, so I could not tell what the experience was there.

After a week of testing this version of Proton, I can firmly say that my average performance has increased significantly. My aim is almost always what I called excellent before the driver, my experience in game is smoother than ever and etc.

The only complaint I have is that the game launches on the monitor your mouse pointer is on (which is a general Wayland bug, but that should be fixed soon).

So, to conclude, if you need to play a competitive title, go ahead and install GE's Proton (it should work in most scenarios, unless you have game launchers with crooked window decorations).

Hi, newbie here

I throw windows away and opted for linux mint, now i have to install the launchers for the games i own, i've started by installing steam from the software manager, all works but when i try to add a storage pointing to another ssd with games already downloaded in it nothing happens, the selection windows appear, i select the device and folder where the games are but upon select nothing appears.

I used the command flatpak list to see if steam was installed as flatpak but nothing appear.

The partition in which the os is installed has ext4 while the partition in the other ssd has ntfs, can this be a problem?

the ssd with games on has root as owner and i can't change its permission to write and delete for files, cant this be the problem?

Give it a go and tell me how it go guys. I just spent several hours working on a scrip to fix my ds4 device on non steam games on linux since none of the available options seemed to work without a ton of tweaking and then I went all the way and added support for ps3 and 5. Please share your feedback if you find any issue with mappings on your end and I'll try fixing them
