Game sound dies for Dota2 when the game sends notifications
Don't remember exactly when it started occuring but about 2 months ago I noticed that my game sound dies when playing Dota 2 using the native client. This error does not occur for any other game or application (Proton or native).
After some trouble shooting I've noticed that its when Dota sends notifications to the OS that the sound just dies (Party invite, ready check, Match Found etc.)
After some trouble shooting I think it has to do with how xdg-desktop portal handles these notifications. Why the problem started occurring after two years without me really changing anything is a mystery to me. I dont know how to troubleshoot further. Ive tried googling and reading up on the error messages from my logs but with no luck. Journal output below:

why do some people say "linux is better than windows for gaming"
saying this while the most popular multiplayer games blacklist linux is crazy
and most people don't care about privacy, so the "invasive Kernel AC" argument is meaningless

Comparing Streaming Solutions
So I've increasingly been streaming my desktop (Fedora) to an HTPC (Bazzite) in my living room for gaming purposes and it is great. I set up Moonlight/Sunshine but... that is always finicky and seems to need some manual config tweaks maybe once a month (presumably when there is an update) and Steam Remote Play feels like it would be a lot more seamless and SHOULD only get better in the next few months.
But... I am stupid and weird and care about performance/latency even though I am not playing anything remotely twitch shootery and I am also an old with decades of adult beverages to make sure my reflexes are crap. But it is the principle of the matter!
My thinking is to just make a simple Godot "game" and use a high FPS camera to measure the delay between input and output locally and streaming with each solution. But this also feels like something someone else may have already done and I would be genuinely interested in whether different distros/compositors make a meaningful difference. And by "meaningful difference" I of course mean "nothing that matters for like 99.9999999% of the population".
So... is there a writeup or video on something like this?
Thanks

Making Alan Wake 2 run on RX590
Hello!
I'm new to ubuntu, downloaded mainly because i noticed the following video (https://youtu.be/uwHttoYK3KE?si=vuObgh\_KrmdtjsMA) which opened my eyes to the ways that linux can help me bypass hardware limitations.
Unfortunatly, i was not able to mimick the process the video does
has anyone tried this and worked with a bought copy of aw2 from epic game store

Anno 117 under Ubuntu via Ubisoft Connect
Has anyone managed to get Anno 117 working under the aforementioned conditions?
First some info about my software:
- Ubuntu 24.04.3
- Lutris
- Ubisoft Connect
I know that it's often (read: almost always) easier to use steam, but before I switched to Linux I bought all Anno games directly from Ubisoft and on reflex I did the same with 117, so now I'm stuck with that.
I also can't link my steam and Ubisoft accounts because none of my Ubisoft games will start when started via steam.
So I've got Ubisoft Connect installed via Lutris and that works, I can also start some of my games without any tweaks.
However, no matter what I do, I can't get 117 to start. I always get the following error:
I've looked at this post for the demo and tried all the arguments.
Tried applying them in Ubisoft Connect and Lutris, in all the combinations I could think of, but to no avail.
I've switched between all the recent Proton versions and even tried starting 117 not via Ubisoft Connect, but steam and directly out of Lutris.
Steam doesn't work at all and Lutris produces either the same result or a different Error:
If I use Proton Hotfix, and after clicking away the 6 dialogues that this opens I get nothing, just my CPU committing Seppuku.
Oh and yes, I already tried all the alternatives to Lutris, those did not work either.
Thus far, Lutris has gotten me the closest to playing (which is the error message above).
Has anyone any pointers on what to do? I'm out of ideas...

I need a controller gaming focused OS for very old hardware
So I've got this computer I built, out of spare parts, I was originally planning to sell it but I actually wanna try making it a little media center/emulator and game-streaming "console" for my bedroom TV. The problem is, I don't know what OS would be best for ease of use in this case.
It's a pretty low spec PC;
i7 2600
8GB DDR3 RAM
240GB SSD
GTX 750
Old spare parts as I said before.
I'm looking for an OS with controller support, that won't have any issues running Moonlight to stream games from my main PC. I was thinking something like Bazzite, but the GPU in this is too old for Bazzite's desktop only more, much less it's Gaming Mode. Maybe Batocera? I've never managed to get that to work right though, especially steam, so I'm a little hesitant to use it.
Right now, Zorin OS is installed on it with Nouveau drivers, if there's a way to get Zorin to operate with a controller on start up I'd also be willing to mess around and download and configure some stuff to get that to work too.

Does no one else have an Ultrawide? Wayland Issues!
I have 2 ultrawides. They work great in pretty much any distro for the desktop. Currently on CachyOS/Arch. GPU is Nvidia RTX 4090
No issues with resolution, orrr refresh rate, orrr HDR, adaptive sync, etc.
It all just works!
UNTIL. I start a game via xwayland.. There are just no 21:9 resolutions listed in games. Only 16:9. 3440x1440 doesn't exist in game as an option to pick from
So any of my games on Steam, I have to force them to run via gamescope in launch options. It's annoying.
This is the one thing keeping me from leaving Windows behind for good. I don't play multiplayer games only singleplayer. So no need for anti cheat. I would be perfectly happy on Linux.
I find it hard to believe no one else has encountered this. I have the same issue on Mint, Fedora, etc. So it seems like a wayland issue anyone with an ultrawide monitor should be experiencing.
Is there a more elegant solution than setting gamescope as a launch option individually for each game on steam?

Cities Skylines 2 very laggy on steam deck
So, I have been running Cities Skylines 2 on my steam deck with manjaro for a while now and it worked fine but now after i took a break (like 1-2 months) the game is very laggy even on very low graphics.
For Example: Just to move my cursor from the top of my screen to the bottom I have to lift my mouse and move it to the top of the mousepad.
If anyone asks if i alt tab out of the game the cursor moves fine. I already tried to change my proton version and with some of them the game doesnt even start and with the others it lags.

RTX 4060 compatible drivers for Ubuntu 22.04
I have been trying to install a compatible driver to work on a project I need the gpu for. I have a DELL G15(RTX 4060) and I have tried nvidia-driver-535 as well as nvidia-driver-580(recommended by ubuntu), but both of them crash my laptop. Please provide a solution for this.

Xinput controller(8bitdo ultimate 2c, 2.4 ghz) does not work with proton experimental. It's fine wirh proton 9
I've tried a lot of fixes to get the controller working. At first I thought it was an issue with Hades 1, but now I am facing the same problem with enshrouded. Switching to proton 9 fixes the problem. That perfect for hades but booting enshrouded in proton 9 I just get a black screen. The UI is there but everything is blank. It tried all the standard trouble shooting tips, windowed mode, disabling and enabling steam input and all that but I can't get the controller to work with proton GE latest or experimental. It seems like it's a problem with experimental and I was hoping someone else has had the same issue. The exact behaviour is the controller works when you load the game, it works for about three minutes and then just stops working. It's the same behaviour with Hades and Enshrouded. I'll try it with mass effect 2 and BG3 now and edit this post to see if I can reproduce the problem. I use Nvidia btw.
Edit Bazzite Nvidia rtx 4070 32 gigs of ram Intel 12 th gen i7
