Other News about gaming on Linux
I made a CLI tool to automatically download steamgrid assets for your non-steam games.
check it out its open source: https://github.com/kaezrr/steamer and not vibe coded.
I made this for myself and decided to share it for others to use as they see fit.
I play a lot of non-steam games and got pretty tired of lutris and herioc games launcher causing issues. Steam actually works perfect for non steam games nowadays, many games I couldnt boot on lutris and heroic just ended up working fine when added as a non-steam game.
But I also kinda wanted it too look good, so I just took the opportunity to make a quick rust tool that automates adding icons, headers, logos and all for your non-steam shortcuts. It works pretty well, and could easily be extended to work with regular steam games if people want to.
there might exist a better tool but well I am a programmer and it seemed like a good programming exercise (no LLMs used, other than to reverse engineer steams proprietary VDF format).
Cheers

Persona 5 Royal very low FPS but not in loading screen
In the loading screens, or the pause menu, or when opening the map I get a stable max capped FPS of 120
In the main menu, or in game I get a max of 20-40
I have tried proton experimental, 10, 9, hotfix, and GE 10
I can't seem to get anything to work with this although on protonDB it's platinum and says this game runs fine on linux
Persona 3 Reload runs perfectly fine with no issues
CPU Brand: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics Arch Linux (64 bit) Kernel Name: Linux Kernel Version: 6.19.14-zen1-1-zen (but issue persist on normal linux)
Driver: NVIDIA Corporation NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2
16GB RAM
Using Hyprland but issue also persists on XFCE4
Game runs a lot better on my windows installation

Using Arch Linux as primary OS but also play games in (Windows)
I’ve been using Arch Linux as my primary OS for a long time now, but I still keep Windows around mainly for gaming.
I mostly play story-driven, realistic, open-world, and simulation games (for example: Assetto Corsa, FPV Logic, etc. etc.), and I’d really like to avoid switching to Windows every time I want to play. So far I’ve tried Lutris Wine Proton stuff, but compatibility has been pretty hit-or-miss, and a lot of games just don’t run properly.
I haven’t tried Steam yet, but I’ve heard mixed things—especially about NVIDIA GPUs not working as well on Linux for gaming.
**My setup:**
Laptop: Dell G15 5530, CPU: i5-13450
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050 6GB
RAM: 16GB DDR5
Storage: 512GB SSD
Any suggestions or experiences would be really helpful.

Problems with The Binding of Isaac in Linux Ubuntu 24.04
I used proton 9.04 to open the game, it worked, but if I play with a gamepad it doesn't recognize some imputs, like two buttons are the "x" in the game, any solution? I use the Steam deb version.

Trouble with The Witcher 3 on Linux Mint
hello, new linux user here and i've run into this error when trying to launch The Witcher 3 and haven't been able to find a solution anywhere. (Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon)
this is the output i get for inxi -G
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA TU116 [GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER] driver: nvidia v: 595.58.03

so i presume the trouble is likely that the game just isn't detecting opengl. i have 'Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool' enabled using Proton 9.0-4. other steam games work fine so far, Witcher 3 is the first one i've had a problem with.
some forum pages i saw talked about installing Wine, but from what i understand, Proton already has some features of Wine integrated with it? would separately installing Wine potentially help?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been working on a small post-apocalyptic RPG called Arkansas 2125
I’ve been working on a solo project called Arkansas 2125, a post-apocalyptic turn-based RPG inspired by classic CRPGs.
The game focuses on atmosphere, slower pacing, and tactical decision-making rather than fast action.
It’s currently in Early Access and I’m continuing to improve it step by step based on feedback.
I’m curious what people think about this kind of approach — do slower, more atmospheric RPGs still appeal today, or do most players prefer faster gameplay?
If anyone wants to check it out, it’s easy to find on Steam by searching Arkansas 2125.

PlayStation 5 gains near-native PS3 game support through RPCS3 on Linux
I freaking LOVE distro hopping. I freaking LOVE spending 48 straight hours on my days off inside of the terminal reconfiguring everything.
Bazzite was great, but sandboxed and locked down.
Pop-OS was GNOME but worked (uggo)
Nobaru really didn't want to fucking properly initialize my GPU, and when I tried to update it was like "lol, we working on it but here's a quick 10 commands to fix our blind spots" (didn't work)

Haven't seen a post that mentions this, but Discord NVIDIA Video Hardware Acceleration seems to be enabled by default through vulkan!
Seems to not be through NVENC? unless I'm misunderstanding

I need help with Minecraft (SpiralLinux)
I need help with Minecraft. I recently installed SpiralLinux on my PC, and when I launch Minecraft (version 1.16.5 Fabric with mods), the game opens, but when loading a world, it crashes and forces me to log back into my PC. It seems to be a driver issue because if I run the game with Zink (which translates the game from OpenGL to Vulkan), the game works, but at low FPS. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Recommended drivers for 5060ti?
Hey,
I’ve recently bought rtx 5060ti.
Been a while since I followed nvidia side of Linux gaming, back then it was only proprietary drivers that worked.
Now I can see there’s proprietary drivers and nvidia-open.
Which one should I pick? If nvidia-open, then which version should it be? 570? 580? 590? 595?
I’m currently running nvidia-open-580.142, should I upgrade to 590/595?
I’m running Linux mint with kernel 6.17.0-23.
Running x11, not Wayland if that matters.
