cpu performance 7600x after bios update.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 14:25

i play helldivers2 a lot it's a cpu intensive, so without any limits it was always pulling nearly at 125watt, so i put it on eco mode with pbo limits set to manual.

PPT - 88000

TDC- 75000

EDC-150000

first one was with bios version 3.08 and second one is bios 3.25.

score little less now, but clocks little higher.

What makes Bazzite OS special?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 14:14

Everyone says use Bazzite if you want a Steam Deck like experience on PC but isn't it just big picture mode with the Deck's menus to control framerate, TDP etc? Can't you just customize Arch to do the same thing? I'm asking because I tried SteamOS but don't like KDE and I want more control over Bazzite on Fedora Silverblue.

Low framerate in very specific situations

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 13:58

I get sudden, low framerate when moving the mouse or using the keyboard in games.
Now I know most people would immediately tell me it's the polling rates. But it gets weirder.

- It only happens when the game window is in focus. If I'm typing or moving the mouse outside the game window, the framerate is still okay.

- It only happens after a while. This doesn't happen for 30 minutes or one hour, give or take, then I'm hit with that. This makes it particularly hard to diagnose, because I can't know if a fix worked right away. I'm discovering it didn't after playing for a while. I do not know if it's even a time issue, or even just that I alt tabbed a lot, or did something specific.

- No visible performance issues according to the system. This happens on every 3D game so far, including some that are not demanding at all, and I can see very low CPU, GPU, Ram usage etc at the same time. I don't think I've played anything 2D lately mind you.

- This wasn't the case, say, roughly one week ago. Still, over that period of time, I upgraded the kernel and dropped nvidia-dkms for non dkms

- The moment I leave the mouse and keyboard alone, everything is smooth.

- restarting a game that has this issue fixes it. Then it re occurs later after 30 minutes to one hour. It's strange, it's almost as if there was a leak of some sort, but it only happens when there's inputs.

If it was a polling rate issue, why would it happen after this long, and only in a game window in focus? I'm not sure if it's related, but one of my games, GHPC, has an issue where, if I alt tab a lot (or if I alt tab after a while) and regain focus, there is a black ... scintillation ? on the game screen. This doesn't happen when the game window is not in focus, and happens again when it regains it. So there may be something that makes my system hate alt tabs, or at least strange behavior with window focus.

My mouse polling rate seems to be at 1000hz according to libinput. Testing a mouse tool for windows/dx under wine I get roughly the same. I don't know what my keyboard polling rate is but it is limited to a much slower rate by the system anyway AFAIK (and my issue happens both with mouse and keyboard)

-Arch (swapped kernel and mirrors for cachyos a while ago)
-Wayland
-Plasma
-N*idia, proprietary drivers

Hair looks weird on my games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 13:28

My specs:

Distro: Mint

CPU: Ryzen 9 7900

GPU: Radeon 7900 GRE

Well, I said games, but there's only one game in the pictures I provided lol. But, this happens to be the only one I have installed right now.

So, I installed the Stellar Blade demo yesterday. It runs perfectly on my system, but I do notice a persistent issue that also happened in other games that I played before, like FF7 Remake. The hair looks smudgy and kinda noisy? I don't know if that's the right word. I included red circles around the most prominent area. I checked some gameplay footage on youtube, and I don't see the same problem like mine. Does this have something to do with the GPU driver? Do I need to check if it needs updating?

This doesn't affect my enjoyment of the games I've played at all, but I do wonder what's causing this? Thanks in advance!

How close or far off are we from DaVinci Resolve running quasi natively on AMD with any distro?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 12:00

I run 2 machines. My main PC is running full AMD (7800X3D/9070XT) on CachyOS. I use Kdenlive only to edit my Shorts because it’s quick and easy. For longer and more complicated edits, I use DaVinci Resolve Free version on an older Windows 10 machine (4790K/5700XT). It’s an okay process. I mean, it works but I’d much rather prefer using my modern hardware to edit with DR.

I’ve lost days of sleep several months ago trying to get DR to work on at least 4 Distros using Wayland and X11 but it’s very frustrating using an AMD GPU. Has it gotten any better? I saw that new distro GLF OS (NixOS) has a “creator” option where it installs DR along with several programs but do you guys know if it’s taking AMD into consideration? Not interested in switching distros but are they making progress with getting DR to properly run? It’s one of my last 2 hurdles. DR and MP titles that will never run on Linux which is why I’ll keep my W10/11 machine around just for those.

Linux gaming experience as of 1 month

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 11:56

This is my linux gaming experience so far on a game by game breakdown, system specs as follows

fedora 42 workstation edition Gnome 48 (latest patches when they become available)

ryzen 7 5800x

redeon 7800xt

32gb dd4 3600mhz ram

Moniters x2 1440p 240hz and a 144hz

all ssd storage

Helldivers 2 – stability is pretty good zero crashes however performance is an issue which is either a game or Linux issue not sure.

State Of Decay 2 – game required gamescope otherwise the full screen window wouldnt capture my mouse if I moved it to fast

Arma 3 – borderless window required as full screen mode wouldn’t capture my mouse

Halo The Master chief Collection – first major issue that could cause hardware damage. Occurred while playing halo 3 ODST my gpu junction temps would reach 95-100 degrees, installing LACT and maxing out everything I could without overclocking dropped my temps to 80 degrees while keeping performance the same.

Minecraft Java edition – The official launcher is not available from the Minecraft website (outside from an archive) however using the prism launcher from Flathub worked flawlessly.

Risk of rain 2 – stable with some minor performance issues that are easily overlooked.

Last of us part 1 – amazing performance with fsr and framegen enabled however, major flickering in some areas no workaround as of now.

Halo infinite – crashed my DE 3 times in a row plus lightsauce flickering in the campaign turning off async compute fixed my issue.

Dayz – flawlessly limited however ive only played an hour or so.

Overall my linux experience as has been with my fair share of issues and bugs. Still sticking with it as im hopefull that is only going to get better if anyone has any advice with some of the issues im having that would be awesome.

Games start stuttering after 20-30 minutes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 10:46

R.E.P.O and Risk of Rain 2 start stuttering (15 FPS) after 20-30 minutes. When I restart the game it runs fine and then it starts stuttering again.

I've tried launching the game with gamescope as I've seen some people on ProtonDB recommend. But if I put the following launch options:

LD_PRELOAD="" gamescope -r 165 -W 1920 -H 1080 -- %command%

The games just won't fire up (proton experimental). I have gamescope installed.

My drivers are mounted properly:

berror@berrorpc:~$ inxi -G Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile] driver: nvidia v: 570.153.02 Device-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Cezanne [Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Mobile Series] driver: amdgpu v: kernel

vulkaninfo and nvidia-smi run without errors too. I am endeavourOS on the 6.14.9-arch1-1 kernel. Also, I am on KDE and am on the "performance" mode.

Do all Steam games work on Linux? How's the situation today?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 09:39

Hi, I'm reposting a question from four years ago (this). Like the other person, I'm considering switching to Linux, but I'm passionate about video games. I was therefore wondering whether compatibility issues still exist or if the situation has improved. If so, which distro of Linux would you suggest switching to?

P.S.

In the answers to other posts, I saw someone mention ProtonDB. Is that the solution?

Left 4 Dead 2 won't run on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 08:07

Basically the title. L4D2 wont run through steam. I tried proton and I tried no forced compatibility. No compatibility wont play at all even though this is supposed run natively. Any ideas?

Should I create a swap partition ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. Juni 2025 - 07:12

I remember somes games in Windows used to benefit from having a swap partition (Battlefield series notably) even with plenty of RAM.
