discord screenshare using wayland?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 7:36am

Does anyone have this working and know how to set it up? I’ve tried web based clients but they don’t support push to talk which is a must for me, and even then the screen sharing doesn’t work. I’ve also tried xwayland video bridge which doesn’t work either. Really confused on what to do

Wow will randomly decide not to load in Lutris

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 7:08am

Decided to give ubuntu 24.04 a shot from a stable linux mint 21.3 install.

Everything works BUT wow...which is doing the same crap it was doing on linux mint edge (newer kernels it hates or something?)

GeForce 4070ti

Ubuntu 24.04 Cinnamon

Latest Lutris (flathub)

Overwatch works fine.

Wow just opens and then immediately closes and I have zero idea why. Yes I've tried mutliple settings where bnet either closes completely or stays open and minimizes on game launch..doesn't makea difference. Why is Wow so freakin flaky?

7800xt issues with default clocks speed and memory clock speed

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 6:37am

Just got a new GPU the other day, 7800XT, and I've been checking for utilities for AMD GPUs on Linux, etc. I found LACT. Now, I've noticed I had some visual glitches sometimes when my memory clock rate was low and then spiked up in speed. Nothing major, just a white line across the screen for a split second. After setting the MHz to 1.218GHz, it's never happened again. However, I can't set the GPU mem clock to the 2.2GHz it should be at. Is there a way to set the power states?

A few grievences with Bazzite

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 5:46am

Alright, first things first, I am not looking to bring down the work of the fantastic dev team behind the project. I see what they're doing and I'm so happy to see Fedora finally working as a gaming distro.

But... Some things make me want to switch after a few hours. I am on KDE for example, and cannot install snaps, barely could install gnome software (which I usually do for some things that Discover just doesn't do well) and a few more things like that.

Using the terminal to install things is more painful than other distros, but it could be the fedora edition that is different than workstation. I don't know.

That being said, it runs Plasma 6 really well, even if slow at times.

I think this distro shines far more on portable consoles like the Steam Deck, from the comments I've read. And overall, it's a solid offering, no share meant to the Devs. But those points do stick out as thorns in an otherwise beautiful rose bush.

I have yet to try gaming proper, and with a Nvidia GPU, we'll see how it goes!

Nvidia HDR Support?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 4:03am

Basically what it says on the title. I'm looking to get back into Linux and want to know what the best way to get Nvidia HDR support is? I'm running an RTX 4070 if that helps pin things down.

Anyone else use Gentoo for gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 3:59am

Theoretically, it offers the best performance over any binary distro when properly configured. It's not for everybody, but I don't mind tinkering with it.

The games that I migrated over from Windows run significantly better, and even when I turn the settings up too high and the FPS falls to 45, it's not stuttering like it did on Windows.

Of course the missing question is do they just run better on Linux in general? Should I spend time setting up an Arch Linux installation with minimal tweaks to compare? Does anyone else have good numbers?

Advice running proton on Ubuntu 24.04

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 3:39am

Hey all!
Installed Ubuntu 24.04 on my older iMac17,1 today, has an i5-6500, an amd gpu and 24gb of ram, however when installing steam (trough their .deb package available not trough the snap store), and trying to run for instance Deep Rock Galactic, for which my specs should suffice only the menu boots up, runs at about 2 frames, and once I click continue it constantly crashes on the initializing page.

I thought this could be an issue with DRG itself, so I tried some fixes such as setting the gamemode, forcing mouse capture and different versions of proton to no avail.

Because of this, I tried to then run The Binding of Isaac, which while it boots, and runs, is slugging, slows down when there's enemies on screen, and stutters constantly, which surprises me because my crappy thinkpad with 1/2 the specs running arch can run it perfectly fine.

Can anyone recommend a fix? Is this just an issue inherent to running linux on mac hardware? I double checked that I have mesa and vulkan packages installed, that i have i386 architecture enabled and whatnot, and that seems accurate since when i query system details it shows that my graphics are supplied by "BONAIRE".

Pls help :3c

BazziteOS isn't creating my user

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 3:18am

EDIT: Adding dialout to my group was the cause.

Not sure what's happening here. I've reinstalled twice to make sure I wasn't crazy. I make a user on the setup, but when I reboot, I'm met with the login screen and it's asking me to manually type in my user and password, which is strange, and it fails. As far as I know, root is disabled on bazzite with no way to add it so I can't get in.

I did go into advanced to add myself to the dialout group because I need serial support, guess I could try reinstalling without that.

how are RDNA2 cards doing on linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 1:43am

Im wondering how RDNA2 cards are doing on linux and if i will have a better experience than i did with my 7800XT. I replied to a post recently where i talked about the intel arc card i tried recently, and while most of my games ran fine, the fps left something to be desired. Im thinking about getting a last gen card to see if the drivers are more mature since i dont think the RDNA3 stuff is fully baked yet. Correct me if im wrong though, I just didnt have a good experience with my 7800xt, mostly based around VRR and cursor lag or the VRR not working correctly.

Mic Issues In Unity Games Caused By Discord

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 1:43am

I do hope this is common knowledge, and I'm just not Googling the right thing, but there's an issue a few friends and I have with Discord voice chats killing our microphones in games like Lethal Company and Content Warning. Any other game with voice chat is fine, and it seems isolated to whatever these two games use for their voice capabilities. We all use different Linux distros, but I do think we're all using pipewire. It also doesn't seem to matter if the mic is wireless or not.

In my case, I have a Hyper X III headset, and it's wireless. What I've noticed is that when I'm in a Discord voice chat, and launch one of these games, it seems to overwhelm the 2.4 dongle for the headset. It just dies, and eventually resets itself. In this time, my mic doesn't work at all, but output does. I can still hear everything. I've tried fiddling around with the quantum clock rates under pipewire, and adjusted my alsa headroom to see if this would help any. I had to do this anyway to fix audio desyncing in browsers, so I figured it may not hurt. This made no difference, though.

Aside from that, I've tried several other things through Discord itself, and under pavucontrol, but this didn't get me anywhere, either. These games are fine so long as Discord doesn't have my mic open in any capacity (muting does not help), and I'm really not sure what I can do to properly debug this. For what it's worth, I had a wired Jabra headset prior to my current one that didn't have this problem. I seem to remember it having a stereo duplex configuration under Pulse, and I've read elsewhere that this can resolve things like mic stuttering in these games. If that's the missing factor, I guess I'll just have to live with it. I do hope somebody out there is familiar with this problem, though, because we've been hunting for a solution for quite some time now.

XBox Series X Controller not working on certain games on Steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 May 2024 - 1:32am

So, here's the thing: my Xbox controller doesn't work with some games from my Steam library, but on other games it does. Here are my specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600H

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeFore RTX 3060 Laptop GPU

  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

  • OS: Linux Mint 21.3

  • Steam version: Flatpak

Games tested that don't register my controller:

  • Monster Hunter Rise

  • The Witcher 3

Games tested that register my controller:

  • Armored Core 6

  • Stardew Valley (force use Proton)

I can also see that my controller is detected by Steam and is usable by Big Picture mode. It also can be used in other games outside of Steam, so it's not a controller issue but a game issue.

Please note that the controller is used in wired mode.

I believe this issue occured because for reasons I won't detail here, I had to install the deb version of Steam, then uninstalled it after testing.

Yes, I tried with and without Steam Input and the result is the same: the game does not react to controller's inputs.

First hypothesis is I may have uninstalled some dependency with the deb version of Steam. But if it was the case, every game should not read the controller's inputs. That's not what happens here.

I tried restoring to an early snapshot of my system after the initial installation, I tried with a snapshot where I was using the flatpak version of Steam and the deb version was uninstalled.

Finally, I tried nuking the whole Steam repository to reinstall it completely. Nothing.

I don't really know how it happened, I don't know what caused it to happen, I don't have a clue about my situation. That's why I cannot provide specific logs, I don't even know where to start.
