Opinions on the GeForce NOW FlatPak?

I had a rocky start but after changing a bunch of options it has become pretty OK. It's pretty interesting as you can add your Steam library and then jump in (although free has queues and 1 quick ad) and start playing.

Sadly it seems the default options are poorly chosen as before I changed them I had crazy input lag and the game would go in slo-mo (not an fps drop) and the speed up...

I have my XBOX Series X controller connected via bluetooth and it was detected and worked in both the app and games without any issues!

So yeah, what do people think? The free option is worth checking out IMO!

Primed my PC to get rid of Windows but now have cold feet.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 7:24pm

After a lot of experience with Linux, I am prepared to move my main gaming rig to Linux. I chose Arch as the flavour I wanted. However, I am now not sure if I go ahead. I have used Linux before, my server that runs my PiHole, Jellyfin and Nexcloud instances is on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and I do quite a bit of my software dev work on it. My main concerns are:

  1. I need HDR gaming to work on Plasma 6. A little bit of tinkering is fine but it should work at the end of the day, absolutely cannot compromise on this whatsoever. Dealbreaker.

  2. I keep hearing about how easy to break Arch is and how scary it is.

  3. I own an Nvidia GPU (RTX 3070Ti) and I keep hearing that if you don’t have an AMD card it’s a nightmare.

  4. I have some experience with my steam deck so I have some experience gaming on Linux but I don’t know much about GameScope or compositors and I know very little about Wayland. Some of the applications I use only work on X11 (anydesk) and I need to know if there are workarounds

Bonus: this is not a deal breaker but what’s the status on getting Oculus Rift S working on Linux? Last I heard it was impossible

Can I pull the plug? Or should I wait? Or are there other things to consider?

Does it behave as intended?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 7:14pm

So, I was trying to figure out why does Helldivers 2 work on Linux with half the framerate from W10. I've updated the driver and tried running from Nobara installation, but everything was the same. Now I've tested the GravityMark benchmark to get some understanding of how the GPU - Nvidia 1650 Super shall behave. Here's what I've got:

OS(Renderer) Score Avg.FPS W10(Vulkan) 6,974 41.7 W10(Dx11) 6,159 36.9 W10(Dx12) 4,963 29.7 Linux(Wine Vulkan) 6,630 39.7 Linux(DXVK) 5,449 32.6 Linux(VKD3D) 5,868 35.1 Linux(Native Vulkan) 6,809 40.7 Linux(OpenGL) 4,515 27.0

So, shall it be this way? Is the performance drop accurate to how other y'all have it? Are there ways to configure Proton for better perf-ce? I was using latest wine proton GE

Multi-GPU & Multi-Monitor VRR X11 on Nvidia?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 6:49pm

I have a spare GPU, has anyone confirmed that you can use X11 and plug the main VRR monitor into the Nvidia GPU and the secondary monitor(s) into the secondary GPU?

Is there any special setup needed? Can I still drag windows between the displays easily?

I know Nvidia fixes are coming soon, but I don't want to wait 1-2 months to be able to play native Vulkan games.

Dragon Age Inquisition, now with working controller support

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 6:48pm

Hi.

I found in another thread here that DAI can be played with a gamepad in Linux using the DAI-Proton. You can get it here. The installation is the same as some other custom Protons like GE.

I just tried here and it works flawlessly. Note that DAI Proton can only be used with DAI and not other game.

Also, it's free for this week in Epic Games.

Athenian Rhapsody is a rather unhinged Undertale-like and stupidly funny

Gaming on Linux - 16 May 2024 - 6:13pm
Athenian Rhapsody might just be my new favourite release of 2024. Taking inspiration from the likes of Undertale and Earthbound and turning the ridiculousness up a few notches. Developer Nico Papalia has crafted something brilliant here.

Any way to permanently disable mouse acceleration while playing in games which auto enable it like Fallout New Vegas & Dungeon Lords?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 5:46pm

I`m in Debian 12 with KDE and don`t like it. It makes my aiming when I`m playing FPS much slower and makes some scripts using xdotool much harder to make. Is annoying that this games auto enable it.

Any way to make the proton auto disable it?

Overwolf (Firestone) on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 5:15pm

I'm trying to play Hearthstone on my Linux machine, and I can get it to work easily with Lutris without issues. I want to have a deck tracker, I know there is arena tracker, which is for Linux, but I don't like the interface, and I can run Hearthstone deck tracker easily, but I want Firestone from Overwolf. However I couldn't find any lutris script, or any way to install Overwolf (and Firestone specifically) on Linux. I tried with wine as well, but it just ends in error, that it can't install when running the installer. Has anyone managed to get Overwolf to run on Linux? If so, how can I do this with Hearthstone with Lutris? Thanks!

Steam installed, then flashes in task bar every now and then but app window won't appear.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 5:14pm

Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, DEB Steam installer and then let the client download. Login window appeared just fine, but then the icon appears in the tray and every 10 seconds the taskbar entry appears for a brief moment, but no attempt to open an app window helps.

I have hwarware enablement unlocked and am running kernel 6.7.10 instead of 6.8 (to avoid a touchpad detection bug), but I don't want to expect this to be the issue.

Please help.

Might a logfile help? Which one would it be? steamwebhelper throws some errors and plenty of warnings. But it's tricky to copypaste.

Idiot needs help running games on second monitor.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 4:41pm

Hello guys,

I'm very new to Linux as I switched this month from W11.

Right now I'm on Fedora 40 Workstation (Gnome, Nvidia GPU)

Here's my situation:

I have a monitor and a TV hooked up to my PC. Sometimes I play games on my TV.

What I would do on windows is:

  1. Open Steam big picture by double pressing home on my controller.
  2. Steam sets my TV as main monitor. BP opens on my TV.
  3. Tada 🎉 Games Open on my TV without me moving the window or whatever.
  4. When I close BP steam sets my main monitor back to my monitor.

As far as I know, there is no such option on Linux Steam to set monitors when switching to BP.

My question is how do I set this up on Linux? Is there any alternative that switches my 2nd monitor as main when I press something?

In an ideal world I double press the home button on my controller twice and steam open BP and switches my monitor.

Sorry if this is the wrong flair or forum for this I'm still figuring things out as I go.

Thanks in advance!

Why does (any) DXVK freeze my game but WINED3D works fine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 4:39pm

This issue only occurs with one game on my system, Resident Evil 2 Remake, it constantly freezes before reaching the Resident Evil 2 title screen, this occurs with all/any DXVK versions enabled and only with this game, tested with multiple runners (wine, proton-ge etc) Game works fine if i disable DXVK and use wineD3D however performance is low. Also tested with both versions of the game (DX11 and DX12) from Steam and the same issue occurs, tested Proton Experimental, latest ProtonGE and some older Proton versions. Something like the video playback fails when reaching the main menu which freezes my entire system, if i disable DXVK i boot to the main menu without issues, why is wineD3D running the game and when DXVK is enabled my game freezes when reaching the main menu??? Running Fedora 39 on an old Toshiba AMD Laptop Mesa 22.1

Trying new distro and broke my Nvidia driver

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 4:25pm

I was happily using / game on Ubuntu 22.04 with my Nvidia 3070 mobile, I have no issue with Nvidia driver previously, even after I reinstall my Ubuntu to 24.04, (I don’t want to wait for auto update). Ubuntu still able to pickup my Nvidia and config all needed driver for me. Last week, my hand was itchy and want to try ArchLinux, and after installing Arch successfully, everything was setup nicely except for Nvidia. Since I failed to setup Nvidia on Arch few times, so I think it’s time to go back to Ubuntu, let Ubuntu do the thing for me. Now it seems like after trying to setup Nvidia on Arch, it broke my Nvidia on other Linux distro too, which in my case Ubuntu. Any experts know what is wrong with my Linux & Nvidia driver, boot are not detecting Nvidia, running ‘nvidia-smi’ give error message…

ps: My dual boot Windows able to read Nvidia…

Sea of thieves not running?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 4:17pm

Hi, has anyone been able to play Sea of thieves recently? I’m on Arch with NVIDIA gpu. I updated my graphics drivers today. I was trying to get Sea of thieves working with these launch options: DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command% And Proton Versions 8,9, Experimental and Hotfix were tried but the furthest got me Proton 8 being the start menu and then logging in after which the game needed to restart to load my language so I did that. After that it never got to the play game screen again but stopped spinning the wheel at the bottom left after the RARE and then Unreal Engine Texts. Help is appreciated. If you need more Info, just ask.

Aerox 9 MMO Mouse Side Button Keybind Problem (World of Warcraft)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 May 2024 - 3:51pm

Hi, maybe someone here can help me 🙏 I have installed the latest Linux Mint version Frisch. Everything is running smoothly so far. Installed WoW Classic Cataclysm via Lutris. Everything is also running great.

Only my mouse “Steel Series Aerox 9” causes a small (for me big) problem. The mouse has 12 side buttons, all of which work fine except for button "12". I can't assign a button to it in the game. When I press the key in Chat on Desktop and Ingame (now im clicking the button a few times: ´´´´´), for example, the usual character appears there as normal, so the key works. Only when I go to the keybind layout ingame and want to assign the key, nothing happens.

Does anyone know what to do?

Sorry for my bad English
